Suicide Squad is on track to become one of the biggest box office movies of 2016.
It looks as though Warner Bros. comic book movie, Suicide Squad, is now on track to be one of the biggest movies of 2016.
Anticipation for the new Suicide Squad is ramping up and analysts expect the new Warner Bros. movie to open to a $140 million opening, which is an increase of $25 million dollars from last week’s estimates.
David Ayer’s DC Comics movie is expected to beat Disney Pixar’s Finding Dory, which opened in June to a jaw-dropping $135 million and became the third largest grossing movie of 2016.
However, as TheWrap points out, movie reviews will be released on Wednesday, which can have a major impact on box office sales. However, if Suicide Squad doesn’t reach Finding Dory proportions, then the movie will still open as the fourth-highest grossing movie of 2016.
Either way, this is good news for a new superhero franchise as Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy earned $94.3 million in the box office two years ago.
Suicide Squad centers around supervillians, who are on death row for their crimes until a secret government agency led by Viola Davis assigns them back to black ops missions in exchange for freedom.
Suicide Squad features Will Smith, Jared Leto, Ben Affleck, Joel Kinnaman, Jay Hernandez, Jai Courtney and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.
