Steven Spielberg’s BFG box office numbers are depressingly bad.
Many of the critics loved Steven Spielberg’s traditional take on the Roald Dahl classic The BFG. However, audiences could careless about a a Big Friendly Giant as the box office numbers are extremely disappointing.
Reports for the first three days of the weekend box office for this holiday weekend have been released and it’s pretty depressing for a $140 million movie, especially from an Academy Award winning director.
Deadline reports that over the last three days since its launch on Friday, BFG has only earned $19.6 million. Ultimately, BFG is struggling to compete with Finding Dory, which made another $42 million. In addition, The Purge: Election Year, The Legend of Tarzan also topped BFG with $30.9 million.
That’s not really great numbers for a kid’s movie. And it’s really bad numbers for Spielberg, who directed it as a passion project for some of the biggest producers in the film industry. It looks as though The BFG will not be joining Spielberg’s list of box office hit movies.
