Chicago PD Season 13: Cast, Storylines, and What to Expect

NBC’s hit police drama Chicago PD is officially returning for its highly anticipated Season 13, bringing more high-stakes action, gritty storytelling, and powerful performances from its veteran cast. With a loyal fan base and a long-standing position in the One Chicago franchise, Chicago PD continues to be a cornerstone of primetime drama.

If you’re an actor looking to get involved in this iconic series, keep reading—and learn how you can apply for casting opportunities directly through Project Casting.

Chicago PD Season 13: What We Know So Far

NBC confirmed the renewal of Chicago PD for Season 13 on May 5, 2025, marking another milestone in the show’s enduring success. The new season is slated to feature 21 episodes, aligning with the series’ tradition of extensive and tightly written procedural arcs.

Season 13 is expected to premiere in Fall 2025, returning to its familiar Wednesday 10 PM EST slot on NBC. The scheduling continues its legacy as a pillar in NBC’s midweek lineup alongside Chicago Fire and Chicago Med.

Returning Cast and Character Updates

Chicago PD fans can look forward to the return of the series’ beloved core cast, including:

  • Jason Beghe as Sgt. Hank Voight
  • Patrick John Flueger as Officer Adam Ruzek
  • Marina Squerciati as Officer Kim Burgess
  • LaRoyce Hawkins as Officer Kevin Atwater
  • Amy Morton as Desk Sgt. Trudy Platt
  • Benjamin Levy Aguilar as Officer Dante Torres

However, Season 13 will also mark some major shifts in the cast:

  • Toya Turner (Officer Kiana Cook) will not return after Season 12.
  • Shawn Hatosy, who portrayed Deputy Chief Charlie Reid, exited the series following the Season 12 finale, in which his character was killed.

These departures are expected to reshape the team’s dynamic and open doors to new character arcs and challenges.

Storylines and What to Expect in Season 13

Season 13 will pick up after the fallout from Deputy Chief Reid’s death, with the Intelligence Unit grappling with growing scrutiny and internal tensions. Led by Sgt. Voight, the team will navigate a mix of emotionally charged investigations and intense moral dilemmas.

While earlier seasons delved heavily into personal drama, the upcoming season will emphasize case-driven narratives and reinforce the unit’s dedication to justice. With Officer Cook’s departure and Torres taking a more central role, fans can anticipate new interpersonal dynamics, unexpected alliances, and a possible shake-up in leadership.

The Legacy of Chicago PD

Since its premiere on January 8, 2014, Chicago PD has carved out a niche in the competitive world of crime television. As part of NBC’s One Chicago universe, the show shares crossovers with Chicago Fire and Chicago Med, creating a rich, interconnected storyline that has kept fans engaged for over a decade.

From complex characters to gritty realism, the show’s success lies in its ability to blend human emotion with the demands of law enforcement, making it one of NBC’s most reliable procedural dramas.
