Mel Gibson is working on a sequel to the critically acclaimed, box office hit Christianity movie Passion of the Christ.
Mel Gibson revealed his plans on creating a new Passion of the Christ feature film while on Stephen Colbert’s Late Show. In fact, Gibson plans on calling the new movie The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection.
“It’s more than a single event, it’s an amazing event,” he explained. “And to underpin that with the things around it is really the story, to enlighten what that means. It’s not just about the event; it’s not just some chronological telling of just that event. That could be boring, and you think, ‘Oh, we read that.’… But what are the other things around it that happened?”
The Passion of the Christ, a movie centering around the persecution and crucifixion of Jesus, was released nearly 15 years ago and earned an amazing $612 million worldwide on a budget of only $30 million.
