Ice T, the iconic rapper and long-time star of NBC’s Law & Order: SVU, recently addressed a fan’s criticism of the show, who claimed it had become “woke.”
The conversation began on social media, where a fan questioned whether the upcoming season of Law & Order: SVU would “go back to normal,” suggesting that the show had shifted towards a “woke” narrative. Ice T, known for his candidness, didn’t hold back in his response. Quoting the post on X (formerly Twitter), he replied, “What the F is Woke? lol Like I give a F***.”
Another user attempted to clarify the term “woke,” humorously describing it as actions like “tearing down my John Wayne statues and forcing me to erect a Spider-Man fountain that sprays gay beer on my lawn that turns it into astroturf.” Ice T, never one to shy away from a bold statement, quoted the message and added, “That sounds Dope… F John Wayne.”
In a follow-up post, Ice T reiterated his stance on staying out of political matters, stating, “Like I said before… The Blue Vs The Red… It’s GangBangin to me.”
Ice T has portrayed Detective Odafin Tutuola on the Dick Wolf-created police drama since its second season in 2000. He is set to return for the show’s upcoming 26th season, alongside long-time cast members Mariska Hargitay, Peter Scanavino, and Octavio Pisano. New faces joining the cast include Juliana Aidén Martínez as a detective and Kevin Kane, who has been promoted to a series regular as Detective Terry Bruno.
Law & Order: SVU continues to be produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, in partnership with Wolf Entertainment. The show’s executive producers include Dick Wolf, David Graziano, Julie Martin, Mariska Hargitay, Norberto Barba, Kenneth Brown, and Peter Jankowski.
