HBO has officially announced that the first season of ‘The Idol,’ featuring The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp, will conclude with five episodes instead of the initially planned six. This decision comes in response to the significant backlash the show and HBO have faced since its premiere.
According to TVLine, the final episode, titled “Jocelyn Forever,” is now scheduled to air this Sunday. Although HBO representatives have chosen not to comment on the reason behind the change, an inside source revealed, “After Sam [Levinson] took over and made significant changes, the season ended up being five episodes when everything was said and done. The story simply required five episodes.” The controversial series revolves around Lily-Rose Depp’s character, a pop starlet who becomes entangled with a club promoter portrayed by The Weeknd. Speculations regarding the show’s cancellation circulated even before its release, but HBO has since refuted them. Earlier this month, HBO denied the rumors in a tweet, stating, “It is incorrect to report that a decision has been made regarding a second season of ‘The Idol.’ No such decision has been reached, and we eagerly anticipate sharing the next episode with you on Sunday night.” As of now, there has been no confirmation of a second season.
