20th Century Fox is planning a romantic comedy based on the website “The Knot” a wedding planning website.
Deadline recently announced the project earlier this week.
20th Century Fox has acquired rights to make feature films from the websites The Knot, The Bump, and The Nest. The first of those sites are popular with couples making wedding plans, the second is for expecting couples, and the third is for settling in as parents. The hope is to turn this into three ensemble films about progressing from the first to the third experience.
This is an interesting look at how movies are made. Typically movies take from popular television shows, games, and events for movie making ideas. But, this is a first. 20th Century Fox plans on creating a trilogy of a website and piggybacking off the traffic the website will receive from the movie announcement. Definitely a unique way to cross promote two different businesses.
