‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ Went Bananas Over the Weekend

Date:

The ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ makes $103 million this weekend.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes‘ went bananas over the weekend. Increasing earnings by 33% since the original. The movie cost $170 million to produce, but looking at how well the movie did this weekend, it shouldn’t have any trouble earning it back.

According to reports the movie earned only 29% of its gross earnings from international markets, whereas the last one made 63% of its money overseas.

Critics loved the movie. Currently, ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes‘ has a 93% positive feedback on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics argue that “this just might be the most engrossing, the smartest and the most daring “Apes” movie ever put on film.”

In other news, ‘Transformers‘ made $753 million worldwide to become the highest grossing movie of 2014, and could possibly hit a billion dollars shortly.

Overall, less people went to the movies this weekend in comparison to the same weekend last year. But, what do you expect when only one major feature film was released this weekend.

Next week marks the release of ‘The Purge: Anarchy‘, ‘Sex Tape‘, and ‘Planes: Fire and Rescue‘.
