David Schwimmer revealed his leading role in Friends left him hiding from the public eye as he struggled with being famous.
The world famous sitcom actor, opened up about the effects the show had on his life during an interview with the Hollywood Reporter. Schwimmer:
“As an actor, the way I was trained, my job was to observe life and to observe other people, so I used to walk around with my head up, really engaged and watching people. The effect of celebrity was the absolute opposite: it made me want to hide under a baseball cap and not be seen.”
Schwimmer continued: “And I realized after a while that I was no longer watching people; I was trying to hide. So I was trying to figure out: How do I be an actor in this new world, in this new situation? How do I do my job? That was tricky.”
Discussing the sudden rise to fame, David revealed it took several years to “adjust” to being famous. He explained that his life “messed” with his relationships with other people and took time to “become comfortable with.”
Schwimmer became famous in the 1990s for NBC TV series Friends. He starred alongside Lisa Kudrow, Jennifer Aniston, Matt LeBlanc, Courtney Cox and Matthew Perry. After 10 seasons, the show was canceled but, the series finale had a record breaking 52 million viewers.
Now, the actor stars in the AMC series Feed The Beast. Feed the Beast focuses on characters, Dion Pappas and Tommy Shannon, who are like brothers, with all the love –- and all the problems -– that comes with it. They push each other to follow through on their dreams, welcome love into their lives, and overcome their demons. They also betray, backstab, manipulate and coerce each other into the most dangerous situations imaginable.
