You can say that some people are born for fame, and some people just can’t handle it.
In a recent interview with Elle UK, Anne Hathaway revealed her struggles of being in the spotlight:
“This fame thing? F*cked me up for a long time. I didn’t know how to do it, I didn’t know how to engage with it, it stressed me out. And people would say, “You just have to be yourself!”And I was like, “But I don’t know who that is yet!”
Anne Hathaway’s response to being famous sounds like she was struggling personally on who she is and how she wants others to perceive her. Previously, Hathaway opened up with the Huffington Post about how she needed a break and the world “needed a break from here”.
“I’ve realized that I don’t need validation from anybody. At all. I’m not sitting here now worrying, ‘What do you think of me?’ With all due respect, you seem like a lovely lady, but I don’t need you, or anyone else, to like me.”
In an industry that focuses on everything you do, from what you wear to the people you see, it can definitely have a taxing effect on anyone caught in the spotlight. Our culture loves celebrities on Monday and then feeds them to the dogs on Friday. A single tweet can turn A-List celebrity from the most beloved American idol to a one-hit wonder nobody can remember. It looks as though Anne Hathaway was struggling with living in the spot and being the person everyone wants to love. She is currently co-starring alongside Matthew McConaughey in the upcoming feature film, Interstellar, which comes out on November 7th. Hopefully, this major motion picture can help her define who she is and what she wants to be. Because, I know a ton of aspiring actors that would love to take her spot.
