Ana de Armas Says Social Media Has Changed the Concept of a Modern Day “Movie Star”

Date:

Ana de Armas laments that social media has undermined the “mystery” of movie stardom for young generations, leading to a loss in what it means to be an iconic Hollywood film star.

The sultry Cuban-Spanish actress Ana de Armas is quickly making a name for herself in Hollywood. With an impressive body of work that includes starring roles in such films as Blade Runner 2049 and Knives Out, she’s certainly on the rise. Her unique looks, acting talent, and international appeal make her stand out from other actresses.

Ana de Armas was born in Cuba and moved to Madrid, Spain when she was just 18 years old. While there, she studied at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and participated in various theatre productions. It wasn’t long before she was cast in her first feature film Una rosa de Francia, followed by a role in the TV series El Internado. These early works set the stage for future success and eventually led to roles on the big screen.

In 2017, Ana de Armas starred opposite Ryan Gosling in Blade Runner 2049. She played Joi – an AI hologram who becomes integral to Gosling’s character K’s life throughout the story. This performance earned her critical acclaim and further recognition from Hollywood insiders. Since then, she’s landed numerous high-profile roles including being cast as Bond girl Paloma opposite Daniel Craig in No Time To Die (2020).

Ana de Armas is quickly becoming one of Hollywood’s hottest stars. With her captivating performances and undeniable charm, it seems only a matter of time before we see even more of this talented actress on our screens.

Recently, Ana de Armas shed light on the influence of social media and how it has shaped her career as an actor.

For their Hollywood 2023 Issue, Vanity Fair featured an exclusive interview with the Blonde star. They discussed how today’s social media culture had shifted our traditional views of movie stars such as Marilyn Monroe. She believes that new generations no longer have a concept of this kind of celebrity culture.

“It’s a struggle to stay mysterious in such an information-packed and oversharing age,” she mused. “The idea of the celebrity as someone you only ever get to observe from afar is dead; we’ve willingly shared our lives with fans through social media channels. We have no one but ourselves to blame for this shift.”

The Knives Out starlet only logs onto social media intermittently, primarily to advertise her projects on Instagram. “I barely use it due to the consistent negativity I sense,” de Armas remarked.

She candidly revealed, “It can be challenging to balance keeping people interested without sharing too much of my life. It’s something I’m still learning how to do.”

Regé-Jean Page, who recently graced the cover of The Hollywood Issue for Bridgerton, isn’t convinced that we live in a post-movie star era. He boldly stated: “I never was an avid fan of going to cinemas just because I wanted to see one particular actor – I’m there to watch the movie.”

“It’s like complaining that there aren’t any rock star sound designers anymore,” the actor continued. “Just because this department isn’t receiving as much spotlight as it did in past years? Please, spare me your sorrow.”

Jennifer Aniston was very outspoken about her view on the quickly fading “mass-fame phenomenon.” During a 2022 interview with Allure magazine, she responded positively: “I feel like it’s dying.” We must bid farewell our long-held idea of movie stars and their glamorous appeal. Even Oscar party celebrations are now history!
