Necessary Roughness is a USA network television series that was picked up in 2011. The show centers on a Long Island woman who was recently divorced, and in order to make money, she gets a job as a therapist for a professional football team. Her career is taken to the next level when other athletes, musicians, and politicians request her therapy. While handling her therapy practice she must balance her career with being a decent single mother. The series is based on the true story of a female psychologist Dr. Donna Dannenfelser who worked for the New York Jets. The show was initially titled Dr. Donna, but was later changed to Necessary Roughness.
Necessary Roughness features callie Thorne, Marc Blucas, Scott Cohen, and Mehcad Brooks in association with Sony Pictures Television, Universal Cable Productions, and Still Married Productions. In 2012 Callie Thorne was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a TV Series.
