Shia LaBeouf Reportedly Won’t Appear in ‘Indiana Jones 5’

Date:

The screenplay for Indiana Jones 5 may still be in development with Steven Spielberg and screenwriter David Koepp. The writer claims that the script is ready to go, but there is no set a date for when the film is configured to start shooting, though he says Spielberg did just finish his latest movie and hoped Indiana Jones is the next movie, according to Entertainment Weekly. But apart from that, Koepp revealed a few plot points:

“Harrison plays Indiana Jones, that I can certainly say,” screenwriter David Koepp, who has penned a script for the fifth film in the storied Indiana Jones franchise, tells EW. “And the Shia LaBeouf character is not in the film.”

Shia LaBeouf’s absence on the project was given the reaction to Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and his infamous scene swinging with monkeys.

While he was not a horrible addition to the movie, his public acclaim has fallen from the days he was rumored to replace Harrison Ford in the series. He has also turned his back on massive blockbuster movies since his time on Transformers and other feature films in the early 2000s.

Also, Entertainment Weekly adds at the end of their report, the little issue of LaBeouf’s comments about Kingdom of the Crystal Skull might have played a part in their decision to write LaBeouf out of the franchise.

After appearing in Crystal Skull, LaBeouf, whose representatives did not return EW’s request for comment, criticized the production in a 2010 interview with the Los Angeles Times. He told the paper he felt as if he “dropped the ball on the legacy that people loved and cherished,” and that Ford wasn’t happy with the film either. Ford later responded by calling his costar a “f—g idiot” for his comments.

It is hard to tell if Harrison Ford was upset by LaBeouf’s comments there or if he was just being normal Harrison Ford.
