Acting Tips
- Do your research
You’d be surprised how many actors show up to an unprepared audition. Before you even step into the room, ensure you’ve done your homework on the company and the product/service being advertised. What is the company’s target audience? What are they trying to sell? The more you know about the project commercial, the better equipped you’ll be to give a winning performance.
- Create a connection
In any audition, connecting with the casting director or client is essential. But in a commercial audition, this is especially true. Remember, you’re not just selling yourself—you’re selling a product or service. Take the time to chat with the people in the room before your audition and make them feel comfortable with you. If they like you, they’ll likely want to work with you.
- Be confident
This one is easier said than done, we know. But it’s important to remember that confidence is critical in any audition. Don’t be afraid to show off your skills and personalities and let your unique qualities shine through.
- Be flexible
Casting directors love actors willing to try new things and take direction well. So when you’re in the audition room, be open to trying different things and making adjustments on the fly. If they want you to change your reading or try a different approach, go with it. Showing you’re flexible and easy to work with will put you miles ahead of the competition.
- Have fun
Yes, commercial auditions can be nerve-wracking. But at the end of the day, it’s still just acting. So enjoy the process and let your love for the craft shine through. If you do, we guarantee you’ll book the job in no time.
