“Star Wars” episode 9 has finished filming.
The ninth movie, which is yet to have a title, is the final film in what is being called the “Skywalker Saga”. On Twitter director, JJ Abrams and actor John Boyega shared a photo and thanked the cast and crew.
“That’s a wrap on Star Wars episode 9 and the end to a chapter of my life that I couldn’t be more thankful for,” said Boyega. “What a process! It really has been a joy to be in these movies surrounded by amazing people. JJ thank you for making my dreams come true.”
The photo in both tweets shows actors Daisy Ridley who plays Rey, John Boyega who is Finn, and Oscar Isaac who plays Poe Dameron.
About “Star Wars Episode IX”:
There has been very little information about Episode IX so far, with fans eager to know what they can expect from the new film.
Unlike The Last Jedi, where The Force Awakens ended, it has been rumored that the new film will take place several years on following the events of “The Last Jedi.”
One of the reasons for this is that Carrie Fisher, who played Princess Leia, died in real life before filming. However, the space princess will still be in the new movie, as the filmmakers are using unused footage from the previous Star Wars films.
Carrie Fisher is not the only original trilogy actor making their return to the franchise. Mark Hamill will be back as Luke Skywalker, Billy Dee Williams will be returning as Lando Calrissian.
Whether we see any characters from the prequel films remains to be seen, many fans have speculated that Darth Vader could come back as the main antagonist.
Will this be the last Star Wars?
Following this movie, it is not clear where Disney plans to take Star Wars. Although popular with fans, the spin-off “Solo” movie did not do that well at the box office. As for now, possible movies about Obi-Wan Kenobi or Boba Fett have been shelved.
However, Star Wars will be back on the big screen after Episode IX, The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson is preparing to direct his own trilogy of films set somewhere in a galaxy far, far away.
There will be more Star Wars on TV too, Disney is launching their own streaming service Disney+, and we can expect shows such as “The Mandalorian” and a Rogue One prequel.
