Tom Cruise Commends Harrison Ford and Encourages Fans to Watch Competing Summer Movies ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’
Tom Cruise, the renowned actor in “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning, Part One,” urges fans to support other summer films, including “Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny.” Despite his own blockbuster set to open in a few weeks, Cruise wants moviegoers to experience the thrill of these rival movies.
In an Instagram post featuring Cruise and the writer-director of Dead Reckoning, Christopher McQuarrie, standing in front of posters for “Indy 5,” Cruise expressed his enthusiasm for the summer movie lineup. “This summer is filled with amazing movies to see in theaters,” he wrote. “These are just a few that we can’t wait to see on the big screen.”
Cruise continued by congratulating Harrison Ford on the 40th anniversary of Indiana Jones and acknowledged his creation of one of cinema’s most iconic characters. He expressed gratitude for the countless hours of joy Ford’s portrayal brought audiences.
“I love a double feature, and what could be more explosive (or more pink) than watching Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie back-to-back?” Cruise added, highlighting his interest in these upcoming films.
Cruise’s message suggests his desire to bolster the summer box office by promoting other titles alongside his own. Last year, the massive success of “Top Gun: Maverick” was credited with “saving Hollywood’s ass,” according to Steven Spielberg.

While some films, such as “The Flash” and “Elemental,” have struggled to gain traction at the box office this year, “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” has enjoyed success. “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” has received mixed reviews but is expected to open with a solid $60 million to $70 million during the June 30-July two weekends.
On the other hand, “Dead Reckoning” is projected to achieve a franchise-best opening of $90 million during its extended weekend, beginning on Wednesday, July 12.
Although no tracking data is available for “Barbie” or “Oppenheimer,” both films are highly anticipated. However, even with Cruise’s endorsement, watching them consecutively may result in an unconventional viewing experience.
Cruise’s support of other movies follows a viral report from Puck, stating that he expressed his frustration to Paramount executives regarding the impact of Oppenheimer’s IMAX deal. Cruise was upset that IMAX planned to replace Dead Reckoning with Oppenheimer after just one week, as the latter was entirely shot in IMAX format and required a three-week run commitment.
