Parents are naming their kids after ‘Game of Thrones’ characters
The Office for National Statistics has recently released the list of the most popular baby names in the UK and like the United States, a lot of parents are naming their children from the Game of Thrones series.
There were 187 baby girls named Arya last year…There were also 50 Khaleesis, the same amount as were named Peggy. There were seven boys called Bran and three Sandors, the same amount of boys that were given the name Malcolm last year.

The Social Security Administration released an annual report on baby names in the United States. Despite, HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones‘ being one of the most popular shows on TV it is surprising to see so many people naming their kids after characters that inevitably have a very unpleasant ending in the book.
Here is the breakdown:
- Arya – 1135
- Khaleesi – 241
- Daenerys – 67
- Theon – 15
- Brienne – 8
- Robb – 5
- Hodor – 0
These figures represent a significant increase from last year, when Arya was the fastest-rising girls’ name and 146 people named their baby Khaleesi.

In a surprising twist, AMC’s ‘Breaking Bad‘ has caused an increase in babies named Walter and Skyler. Last year, 72 baby girls were called Skyler, while 58 boys were named Walter. Illustrating how overwhelming popular the show has become.
