Box Office: ‘Suicide Squad’ is Still Number One

Date:

Suicide Squad is the number one in the box office for the second week in a row.

While critics may hate the movie, and fans may bash the storyline, Warner Bros’  Squad is still the number one movie in the box office for a second week in a row.

According to reports, the anti-hero movie came in at No.1 this weekend with an estimated $43.8 million after having made $133.7 million on its debut last week. Despite coming in at number one in the box office, the super villain movie had an abysmal 67.2 percent drop in ticket sales. The only other superhero movie to suffer that massive of a drop in ticket sales was  v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, which suffered a 69.1 percent drop its second weekend at the box office.

According to Box Office Mojo, the two comic-book based that had second weekend drop-offs were 2010’s Jonah Hex and 2003’s Hulk, which both suffered a 69.7 percent drop off in the box office. But, those didn’t make nearly as much money as this year’s Warner Bros. DC Comics movies. In fact, Jonah Hex debuted to $5.4 million, while Hulk opened to $62.1 million, which is peanuts compared to the DC Cinematic Universe.

Meanwhile,  beat expectations with $33.6 million in the box office and another $2.6 million in the foreign box office. The Seth Rogen was bashed by fans who called the movie “racist”, “sexist” and “disgusting.” But, that shouldn’t be a problem for Rogen as he laughs all the way to the bank.

Surprisingly, Disney’s Pete’s Dragon, a remake of the 1977 classic movie, didn’t do well in the box office. Earning $21.5 million from the box office, the film’s performance mirrored Disney’s release of The BFG, which also had strong reviews but didn’t perform extremely well in the box office.
