Casting is now open for the lead role of Maya in the upcoming UBCP/ACTRA ULB comedy short DEADBEATS, filming in Vancouver. Maya is a sharp, dry-witted DJ holding her life together while everything around her spirals into chaos. This proof-of-concept short will pitch a fully developed feature film and will be used for studio meetings with script and pitch deck in hand. Ideal talent will bring a mix of grounded humor and subtle vulnerability, with strong comedic instincts and natural charm.

Job Responsibilities

• Portray Maya, the lead character in a narrative-driven comedy short

• Deliver dry humor with nuance and strong comedic timing

• Perform in multiple scenes across a three-day shoot

• Engage in light dance choreography as part of the character’s performance

• Collaborate closely with the creative team to shape the tone of the film

Requirements

• Female-presenting, ages 28–33

• All ethnicities encouraged to apply

• Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident

• Strong comedic acting experience preferred

• Natural, relatable “girl next door” energy

• Dance experience is a plus

• Open to both union (UBCP/ACTRA) and non-union talent

Compensation

• $200/day (UBCP/ACTRA ULB contract)

Job Description
A heartfelt short film is seeking a talented actress to portray Joanne, the lead role in an emotional story about love, loss, and second chances, told through the eyes of a rescued dog. Set in Vancouver and surrounding areas, this role requires a performer who can deliver a wide emotional range and on-screen presence. Ideal candidates are passionate about storytelling and comfortable working alongside professional dog handlers and rescue dogs.

Job Responsibilities

• Portray the character Joanne with authenticity and emotional depth

• Collaborate with directors and cast to bring a powerful story to life

• Work alongside trained animal handlers and follow set safety guidelines

• Commit to a full shooting schedule over a 10-day period

• Maintain professionalism on set at all times

Requirements

• Female, age 23–28 (must be able to play 26)

• All ethnicities encouraged to apply

• Strong emotional range and acting skills

• Comfortable working with dogs (dogs will be present on set)

• Must not have allergies to dogs

• Able to work in Vancouver and commute to set

• Non-union role

Compensation

• $400 per 8-hour day plus overtime
