Georgia’s film industry is growing and it looks like another major movie studio is headed to Atlanta.
According to reports, CineDome Studios has proposed to put a 100-acre film studio in Chattahoochee Hills, Georgia. The property was once the site of TomorrowWorld, a festival that was canceled indefinitely. Now, entrepreneurs are planning to build a massive $62 million film studio on the property.
The company plans on building 5 “dome superstructure” studios, which would be surrounded by domes for post-production, construction and CGI facilities. CineDome’s founders claim domes are cheaper to build and maintain and environmentally friendlier than a box-shaped sound stage.
This news comes after a new report by FilmL.A that found 17 feature films shot in Georgia in 2016, beating California as the top location for feature film production and making it the number one filming location in the world. Georgia’s film industry not only shot the most movies but, had some of the highest grossing movies films in the state as well.
