Casting Call: Utility II – Technical Operations Assistant

Job Description:
We are seeking a Utility II to join our Technical Operations team, providing critical support during the setup, execution, and teardown of remote TV broadcasts. This role involves handling broadcast equipment, managing cabling, and supporting camera operators. The position may also require assisting with scenic and lighting departments, as well as working on scaffolding and rooftops.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the setup, execution, and teardown of remote TV broadcast operations.
  • Unload and load medium to heavy cases of broadcast equipment from trucks.
  • Layout, pick up, and manage broadcast cabling, ensuring proper coiling and storage.
  • Support camera operators by managing cables, carrying camera batteries, and providing additional technical support as needed.
  • Assist with scenic and lighting departments, including climbing ladders and working overhead on scaffolding and rooftops.
  • Ensure all tasks are performed with a strong focus on safety and operational efficiency.

Requirements:

  • Must live within 100 miles of the event site to be considered.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older and legally authorized to work in the U.S.
  • A minimum of 7 shows worked as a regional-level utility in live remote productions is required.
  • Must have operational familiarity with TV equipment, including cameras, cables, and monitors.
  • Must be skilled in the over/under wrapping of cables and maintaining tidy cable coils.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Firsthand knowledge of venue production areas is highly desirable.

Requirements:

  • Must be physically fit and capable of standing and moving for extended periods.
  • A basic understanding of football or general sports is necessary to effectively follow the game and capture relevant audio.
  • Ability to work outdoors in different weather conditions.
  • Keen attention to detail to ensure the best possible audio capture.
  • Prior experience with audio equipment is advantageous but not mandatory.
