Job Description

As an Art Director at Ubi MTL, you’ll be at the helm of the creation of a rich, captivating, meaningful world players will immerse themselves in. You’re fundamental to a game’s development: a member of the core team, the connection between the creative vision and the artists, the voice of the art team, and a brand ambassador.

You’re a visionary who motivates, inspires, and supports an artistic team to transform concept to reality. As an empathetic leader, you not only provide your team with guidance but you let their encouraged ideas shape the artistic direction you set. You have the talent and known expertise to jump in and help produce visual content that is aligned with the creative vision and is, of course, AAA+ quality.

Thanks to your exceptional presentation skills, you can communicate your artistic vision to the brand management team to share with the public. You provide the visual guidelines for promotional material, ensuring consistency and bringing the in-game world to life.

What you’ll do

  • Work with the producer and core creative team to define the vision of a game.
  • Partner with lead artists to develop the artistic tone (set the ambiance; explore locations, key moments, emotional contrasts, characters, etc.).
  • Create the visual style guide of a game (put together mood boards, references, and descriptions).
  • Coordinate and oversee the art team throughout production.
  • Find balance between artistic aspects and technical constraints.
  • Provide leadership and constructive feedback to achieve quality.
  • Collaborate with members of interdependent teams in all stages of development.
  • Participate in recruitment to build the artistic team & foster its growth.

Qualifications

What you bring

  • Leadership experience in the video game industry (or other relevant experience)
  • Knowledge of Photoshop and 3D software (e.g. 3DS Max)
  • Understanding of art fundamentals and artistic culture
  • A highly creative, collaborative, and empathetic spirit
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, communication, interpersonal, presentation, and mentorship skills
  • Ability to accept feedback and adapt to it
  • A willingness to roll up your sleeves to get the job done

Job Description

As an Artistic Director Visual Design at Ubi MTL, you are in charge of the quality and content of graphic and audiovisual productions. You will ensure that the elements produced are aligned with the game’s vision and propose creative and innovative ideas and concepts.

Collaborating closely with artists and designers across production teams, you’ll support them in pushing concepts further, producing consistent work, and enhancing player experiences through impactful visuals.

What you’ll do

  • Propose graphic or audiovisual concepts based on the client’s brief in the form of a synopsis, mood board or sketch.
  • Define the artistic style of the graphic or audiovisual mandate inspired from the game’s artistic direction (reference films, competing games and design documents).
  • Ensure that the artistic vision is communicated through the visual identity.
  • Create lit and original concepts that support the game’s positioning with the various project teams.
  • Communicate expectations to the production team assigned to the mandate and ensure the quality and content of the ambiances, sets, characters, narration, etc. using visual references and documents that describe the artistic direction.
  • Follow up and validate the team’s finished work so the elements produced are in line with the initial brief and the game’s vision, and ensure that the quality is respected.
  • Work directly with the project director and artists.
  • Produce documents such as GAP (Game Artistic Personality), brief, guide style.

Qualifications

What you bring

  • Around 10 years of UI, visual design, branding, or art direction experience (in the video game industry, a huge plus) or other relevant experience
  • A degree in Graphic Design, Communications, Multimedia, or equivalent
  • An understanding of art fundamentals and artistic culture
  • In-depth knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, and 3D software (e.g. 3DS Max)
  • The ability to give constructive feedback and to convey an artistic direction + make it a shared goal
  • A highly creative, collaborative, and innovative spirit
  • Open-mindedness: you’re receptive to new ideas and fresh perspectives
  • Solid interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Effective cross-departmental communication: you have the know-how to communicate with tech and creative teams alike
  • A willingness to roll up your sleeves to get the job done!

Job Description

As a Live Associate Producer at Ubi MTL, you oversee the development and operation of live game features and services. Owner of the Road to Live timeline and deliverable, you are accountable for the quality of the live experience once the game is in the hand of the player, prior and after launch; the acquisition, retention and monetization while following the game/brand strategy; the deployment of new connected features and services while managing the cost of operation.

Reporting to the Producer/Senior Producer, you will collaborate with the development team as well as with internal and external services providers (IT, Marketing, Business, 3rd party’s operator, 1st parties, etc.) to ensure the development, availability and quality of the connected experience for the player.

What you’ll do

Production Management

  • Gather feature requests from all stakeholders;
  • Create a detailed roadmap for the online game features and services required to run the game;
  • Supervise the development of required online services and features, web site, companion app and other connected components of the game experience;
  • Supervise the development of efficient processes and tools to deploy and operate the game, features and services;
  • Challenge and support the game producer, creative director, Business and Marketing to ensure the quality of the connected game experience;
  • Identify project risks and contingency plans;
  • Supervise and assist all teams in post launch content creation.

Business & Marketing relations

  • Act as liaison between Marketing, Business and Development parties in order to triage and prioritize support needs, dev request and schedule new releases and events;
  • Gather, validate and act upon MAU, DAU and CCU, estimates and live, to ensure proper actions and planning;
  • Plan and create events for the game;
  • Participate in the definition and challenge the ARM strategy; support and articulate it;
  • Enforce Ubisoft guidelines in regards to payment provider choices and technologies per region;
  • Define, monitor and act upon KPI to improve player experience and ARM.

Operation

  • Ensure the constant availability of the game and its services;
  • Monitor Player issues and define the actions to be taken;
  • Participate in the definition and manage live events/milestone schedule and release (closed and public Alpha/Beta/Other, Launch and patches, etc.) while managing the cost of operations;
  • Organize and coordinate the post launch support with the different service providers (CS, CRM, tech, infra, operators, etc.).

Human Resources

  • Evaluate the needs of the team in terms of resources and jobs, and ensure that these are met, maintain a good standard of commitment and team motivation to create a work environment that promotes productivity;
  • Act as a coach to team managers and ensure that they are adequately trained;
  • Participate in the identification of key employees of his team and succession.
  • Carry out all other related tasks.

What You Bring

Qualifications

  • Multi-disciplinary development experience;
  • Knowledge of Ubisoft structure and departments (a plus);
  • Experience in shipping and operating game titles with connected features and services (a plus);
  • Capacity to make important decisions in highly stressful situations;
  • Capacity to take leadership and maintain an efficient team in emergencies;
  • Problem solving;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • Know how to delegate and bring awareness Online concepts and associated technologies.
