Man Who Hid Rosie O’Donnell’s Teen Daughter Facing 10 Years in Prison

0

The 25-year-old who hid Rosie O’Donnell’s teen daughter was charged with child endangerment.

The New Jersey man authorities say Rosie O’Donnell’s missing 17-year-old daughter after meeting her on the dating app on Tinder has been arrested and charged with child endangerment and distribution of obscenity to a minor, the AP reports.

According to police, 25-year-old Steve Sheerer initially denied Chelsea O’Donnell was in his home but the teen was later found hiding in the upstairs attic.

On Friday, police say they discovered “inappropriate communications” between the 17 and 25-year-old.

From Ashbury Park Press:

The prosecutor’s news release about Sheerer’s arrest said detectives received permission from the victim’s mother to retrieve the 17-year-old’s phone, which revealed inappropriate communications between Sheerer and the minor over the past several weeks.

Detectives later seized a computer and other digital equipment from Sheerer’s home. The seized items will be examined as part of a continuing investigation, authorities said.

“He was involved with a minor, and Rosie’s concern has been and always will be the health, safety and well-being of her daughter,” an O’Donnell spokesperson told the AP. “Rosie is profoundly appreciative for the work the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office has done and the diligence of the local police.”

Sheerer, who was reportedly convicted of child endangerment and put on probation for heroin possession in 2013, is currently being held on a $40,000 bail. If he his found guilty he faces up to 10 years in prison.

Owen Wilson: My Dad Has Alzheimer’s Disease

0

Owen Wilson reveals that his father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Owen Wilson says that while his father having Alzheimer’s disease is “A rough thing,” he also knows that there are things to be grateful, for, including that his father is being cared for at at home and he has plenty of people around who love him.

“It is a rough thing,” Wilson told the Dallas Morning News in his first public comment about his 74-year-old father’s illness. “It’s one of those things where if somebody had said 10 years ago, when my dad and I were joking around, having a putting match, that this is the position your dad’s going to be in, where he basically needs 24-hour care, you’d think, ‘Gosh, I won’t be able to handle that. That’s just not possible,'” Wilson said.

Owen Wilson grew up in Dallas and revealed that he’s taking everything day by day. “You just have to do your best to deal with it. You’ve got no choice but to accept it. And then, you sort of still look for the things to be grateful for.”

Owen Wilson’s father is a longtime executive. He worked on the TV affiliate, KERA, during the mid sixties and it was a major influence on his acting career.

“For me and my brothers, there just wasn’t a bigger influence on us,” Owen Wilson, who has starred in movies including Wedding Crashers, told the newspaper.

Owen Wilson is currently promoting his new movie No Escape, a thriller about a businessman who is on vacation with his family but is forced to save his family after the government is taken over by terrorists.Wilson, 46, said it’s a role he couldn’t have played without first becoming a father himself.

[WATCH] ‘American Horror Story: Hotel’ Teasers Will Scare the Hell Out of You

0

FX releases the new teasers for American Horror Story: Hotel and it’s AMAZING.

After pretty bad reviews that followed last year’s American Horror Story: Freak Show, many have been hesistant about giving Ryan Murphy another shot at his horror anthology series. The announcement of Lady Gaga reveals that there will be more musical episodes and while that gimmick was interesting once, it will be interesting to see how it pans out this season on American Horror Story: Hotel.

The new season will head back to a single environment similar to Murder House and Asylum, where a majority of the story will play out. As we have learned from horror movies like The Shining, a hotel can be a very frightening experience.

Well, yesterday, American Horror Story: Hotel released teasers for the new season. While, not much is really revealed in these clips, we are given a close look at two characters that will be featured in the new episodes.

Why Nintendo is (Probably) Developing Movies and TV Shows

0

As a fan of the original Super Mario Bros. movie, I have always wondered why Nintendo stopped making great movies, even critics hated their projects.

In the last few years, people have been pressuring Nintendo to produce a live-action Legend of Zelda series but, Nintendo has side stepped the possibility of a Nintendo TV series or movie like a game of Wii boxing. In fact, there was a rumor that Netflix was going to produce a  Legend of Zelda series. It was later denied by Nintendo.

A few weeks later it was announced that Nintendo was looking outside of the video game industry to make money that “for Nintendo IP, a more active approach will be taken in areas outside the video game business, including visual content production and character merchandising.”

Nintendo

This prompted to Fortune magazine to reach out to Nintendo’s creative force and Mario mastermind Shigeru Miyamoto for some more clarity on what this means for the future.

“We’ve had, over the years, a number of people who have come to us and said ‘Why don’t we make a movie together—or we make a movie and you make a game and we’ll release them at the same time?’,” Miyamoto told Fortune at this year’s E3. “Because games and movies seem like similar mediums, people’s natural expectation is we want to take our games and turn them into movies. … I’ve always felt video games, being an interactive medium, and movies, being a passive medium, mean the two are quite different…

“As we look more broadly at what is Nintendo’s role as an entertainment company, we’re starting to think more and more about how movies can fit in with that—and we’ll potentially be looking at things like movies in the future,” said Miyamoto.

It is important to note that Nintendo has the video game industry in the palm of their hands. Several generation of kids have grown up playing Mario, Zelda and Duck Hunt, therefore, if Nintendo decided to become the next Marvel, they can immediately turn one of their video game properties into a feature franchise series. Think about how many Marvel TV shows are coming out in the next five years. Once, the superhero fad is gone, expect Nintendo to take over to start a video game frenzy forcing every major network to dig deep into their pockets for a ticket on the Nintendo bandwagon.

Latest Study Shatters Hollywood’s Urban Legend

0

The more diverse the cast, the more money a TV show or movie makes

It is a pretty well documented fact that Hollywood is a predominately white industry. But, in a comprehensive study on diversity in the media, UCLA’s Ralph J. Bunche Center African American Studies determined how disconnected the TV and film industries are from the United States as a whole.

Typically, women and minorities remain underrepresented in Hollywood. Their numbers range as low as 1/12th to 1/2 their general population figures.

This is pretty much old news. People have been complaining about Hollywood’ lack of diversity for the past twenty to thirty years. However, this study examined over 1,061 TV shows. “In television, we looked at 1,061 shows,” said Dr. Darnell Hunt, director of the Bunche Center. “We literally looked at everything on TV. Everything.”

One of the most interesting parts of the study was the “cost” of diversity. It is assumed that movies and TV shows that feature a predominately male and white cast generate more profits than projects featuring women and people of color. However, the study found that diverse casts actually receive higher ratings, while diverse movies make way more money. For example, movies with a large amount of minority involvement made $160.1 million in global box office earnings in 2011. Meanwhile, movies that did not have a lot of diversity made only $68.5 million.

It is hard to deny the impact diversity has had in the TV industry in this year alone. Fox’s Empire was the most watched TV show in 23 years. In fact, N.W.A.’s Straight Outta Compton demonstrated that audiences are extremely interested in diversity. The N.W.A hip-hop biopic is the number one movie for two weeks in a row earning nearly $100 million in two weeks. There are now reports of a Master P biopic, and a sequel to the Straight Outta Compton.

Numbers don’t lie. If Hollywood is interested in making money, than it would be in their best interest to include more women and minorities in their TV shows and movies.

Child ‘Girl Meets World’ Actress Ignites Racism Debate

0

13-year-old child actress, Rowan Blanchard confronts racism and feminism head on in a recent Instagram essay.

Several years ago when Project Casting first started posting casting calls and entertainment news, there was a rumor that Disney was a holding an open casting call for the lead role of the Boy Meets World spinoff, Girl Meets World. Evidently, Disney was looking for the next child star and casting directors decided to cast Rowan Blanchard. Since then, Girl Meets World is a perfect mix between 90s nostalgia and modern day comedy.

Recently, the 13-year-old child actor wrote a three-part essay on the importance of “intersectional feminism” on Instagram.

Rowan Blanchard
Helga Esteb / Shutterstock.com

Blanchard responded to a Tumblr user asking for her thoughts on the the term “white feminism”. Blanchard posted an essay discussing the importance of including different viewpoints, including African American women as well as transgender women.

“The way a black woman experiences sexism and inequality is different from the way a white woman experiences sexism and inequality,” the actress wrote. “Likewise with trans-women and Hispanic women.”

In the essay, Blanchard references the work of Columbia Law professor Kimberlé Crenshaw, who first argued for “intersectionality” in 1989. She also praised The Hunger Games’ Amanda Stenberg, who called out white singers for appropriating black culture.

“To only acknowledge feminism from a one sided view when the literal DEFINITION is the equality of the sexes is not feminism at all,” she continued. “We need to be talking about this more. Discussion leads to change.”

You can read her full essay on Instagram.

The Affair centers around the emotional impacts of an extramarital relationship between Noah Solloway and Alison Bailey after the two meet in the resort town of Montauk on Long Island.

Noah is a New York City schoolteacher and Williams College alum who has had one novel published, and is struggling to write a second book. He is happily married with four children, but resents his dependence on his wealthy father-in-law.

Alison is a young waitress trying to piece her life and marriage back together in the wake of the death of her child. The story of the affair is told separately, complete with distinct memory biases, from Noah’s and Alison’s perspectives.
