Model Charged With Running Major Drug Trafficking Ring

0

A model and fashion entrepreneur has been charged with running a sophisticated cocaine ring across Australia.

Police allege George Gerges, 31, is one of six men who have been supplying more than a million dollars’ worth of cocaine

Ten properties across Australia were raided on Wednesday. All six men aged 28 to 39 were charged with ongoing drug supply and being part of a criminal group. Police allege Mr Gerges supplied 941.9 grams of cocaine, with a street value of $282,000 over a three-month period in the Pyrmont area.

He was also charged on Wednesday with possessing steroids.

From SMH:

Another man, Anslem Lee, 37, allegedly allowed his Dulwich Hill home to be used as a “drug premises” for the syndicate and sold three kilograms of cocaine, with a street value of $900,000.

Police say that, during the raids, they found a further 650 grams of cocaine, cannabis, MDMA and $38,000 in cash, allegedly the proceeds of crime.

A .22 calibre sawn-off rifle and a loaded pen gun were allegedly seized from the home in Homebush.

Police allege they have destroyed a “sophisticated syndicate” operating in Sydney Australia that involved “distributing cocaine from several properties across Sydney”.

“Strike Force Morti detectives have been investigating this drug syndicate for a number of months and today’s arrests are a direct result of their hard work,” he said on Wednesday.

“We will continue to detect and seize these drugs using various methods and by targeting drug supply and possession at all levels.”

Fashion Model Reveals Everything She Eats in a Single Day

0

A major fashion model reveals everything she eats in a day.

Have you ever wondered what fashion models eat on a daily basis? As it turns out, they don’t starve themselves, well at least not this one.

Megan Williams, who has modeled for Guess, as well as several major magazines such as Elle, Glamour, and Marie Claire, revealed one day of her diet to Stylecaster.

For breakfast, she said she ate home-cooked gluten free pancakes. She said lunch was “chicken salad and iced tea.” She snacked on “fruit, fruit, and more fruit” throughout the day, and finished off the day with fish tacos. However, she didn’t mention serving sizes.

She also told Stylecaster that people will find high-protein foods like “eggs, cheese, and peanut butter” in her kitchen all of the time. In addition, she said her go-to beverage was coconut water, and that chocolate is her guilty pleasure. She said that when she’s traveling she likes to eat granola. While her diet seems really laid back, it’s worth noting that it does not comes without a price. She loves to work out. Williams says Pilates is her favorite workout.

Then again, it is possible that she is this fit due to genetics.

Here’s The Model with a Bionic Arm That’s Now a New York Fashion Week Model

0

Check out this amazing superhero model. Even though Rebekah Marine has a prosthetic arm, that has not stopped her from launching a successful modeling career.

Now the model is appearing in Nordstrom’s 2015 anniversary catalog and hitting the runway at New York Fashion Week.

The New Jersey mode, 28, made her fashion week debut last February during Antonio Urzi’s presentation. She will appear in the FTL Moda show on September 13th, where she will wear a new prosthetic hand.

“It’s so important to include more diverse models, because after all, nearly one in five people in America have a disability,” Marine, who was born without a forearm, told Mashable. “We should be celebrating uniqueness, not conforming to what the media thinks is beautiful.”

The model confessed that while she has a positive outlook, it hasn’t been easy to make it in the modeling industry. “Agencies often won’t even look at my portfolio,” she admitted. “But I’ve come to realize it’s all about finding your niche. I’ve accepted that most clients may not want to work with me based on my ‘disability.'”

Either way, Marine, who also modeled bridal dresses, said she’s going to keep going until she sees her dream brought to life. “Above all, I hope to land on the cover of Vogue one day—that’s my personal goal. And I won’t stop until I get there.”

Showtime is Now Casting Lead Role for Teddy Roosevelt Series

0

Showtime is currently working on a limited series revolving around Teddy Roosevelt, according to Variety.

The project, which is still in its early stages, will be written by David McKenna the man behind American History X, who will also serve as the show’s executive producer.

Insiders tell Variety that the series will be a “brilliant take” on Roosevelt’s life, presented as a big epic. McKenna is said to be adapting “the real-life heroic story” of the 26th U.S. president for television in a moment in time when there is significant interest in larger-than-life political figures.

The creative team have their eye on someone for the lead role who will also serve as an exec producer, but no actor is formally attached yet.

Theodore Roosevelt, often referred to as Teddy or TR, was a soldier, author, and explorer who would later become the 26th President of the United States from 1901 to 1909. As a leader of the Republic Party, he was a leader in the Progressive Era. Despite being born with debilitating asthma, Roosevelt, embraced nature and a strenuous lifestyle. He used his welcoming personality, and world-famous achievements in politics.

He campaigned vigorously across the country, helping McKinley win reelection by a landslide on a platform of peace, prosperity, and conservatism. The assassination of President McKinley in September 1901 meant that at age 42, Roosevelt had become President of the United States, the youngest in history. Leading his party and country into the Progressive Era, he championed his “Square Deal” domestic policies, promising the average citizen fairness, breaking of trusts, regulation of railroads, and pure food and drugs.

Star Wars Actor Reveals J.J. Abrams is “More Collaborative”

0

J.J. Abrams is “more collaborative” than George Lucas, according to a Star Wars actor.

Anthony Daniels, who played C-3PO since the very first Star Wars movie , argues that the new Star Wars movie is different than any other George Lucas production he has ever worked on. J.J. Abrams had big shoes to fill and according to Anthony Daniels, he is doing a good job. But, the level of secrecy surrounding the production “has been beyond ludicrous”.

“The secrecy has been beyond ludicrous,” claimed Anthony Daniels, who has played C-3PO in all seven films, in a wide-ranging interview with The Guardian. “For heaven’s sake, it’s a movie. When I got the script, it was typed in black on paper of the deepest red so you couldn’t photocopy it. I got a hangover just reading it.”

George Lucas Star Wars

The 69-year-old revealed that he found himself facing Disney’s force over a rogue Tweet he had made about the upcoming film.

“I said that I’d met so-and-so. An actor who plays a … thing in the film. A character,” he said. “Immediately I received a message from Disney: ‘Remove the tweet! You’re not allowed to say that!’ Honestly. It’s a kind of Kremlin attitude. Look, I know perfectly well not to tell you now what I’m giving you for a Christmas present because it would spoil the surprise. And these films are all about opening the box on Christmas Day.”

But Daniels also said he supported J.J. Abrams for revitalizing the franchise.

George [Lucas] has changed a lot over the years, but I think he finds it slightly hard to collaborate. He made decisions that I believe might have been better discussed with other people,” he said. “J.J. is more collaborative. He likes to listen.”

Study: How Hollywood Casting Directors are Reinforcing Gendered Racial Stereotypes

0

A new study suggests Hollywood reinforces gender and racial stereotypes.

A Hollywood diversity report released by the USC’s Annenberg School of Media and Journalism notes that, among other things, Latinas and Black women are most likely to star in Hollywood films only when they are dressed in “sexy attire.”

Don't Mess with Texas
DFree / Shutterstock.com

What the report says

The report, which looks at inequality across “Gender, Race, and LGBT Status” in the top 100 films from 2014, pointed out that 30.6 percent of Latinas and 29 percent of Black women in movies with major roles are shown wearing sexually explicit clothing, as compared to 27.5 percent of White women and 25.7 percent of Asian women. Despite the sexualization of women of color, only 9.7 percent of Latinas and 11.6 percent were referenced as “attractive.” Compare this to men, where Black men were more likely than any other race to be shown in “Sexy attire” at 11.8 percent, compared to 1.4 percent of Asian men. Essentially, Hollywood’s casting directors and producers are reinforcing gender and racial stereotypes.

Here are the Hollywood statistics

Oscar Selfie

Here are some more fun statistics you should know:

A total of 21 of the 100 top films of 2014 featured a female lead or roughly equal co lead. This is similar to the percentage in 2007 (20%), but a 7% decrease from the 2013 sample (28%).

In 2014, no female actors over 45 years of age performed a lead or co lead role. Only three of the female actors in lead or co lead roles were from underrepresented racial/ethnic backgrounds.

No female leads or co leads were Lesbian or Bisexual characters.

Hollywood diversity sucks for minority directors

selma_ava_duvernay

These numbers are even worse for women in the director’s chair. In the 100 top-grossing films of 2014, only five were Black, and only one, Ava DuVernay, the director of Selma, was a woman.

There were zero Asian or or Latino directors, man or woman. That is in part because there were only two woman directors total in the top-grossing films of 2014: DuVernay, and Angelina Jolie, for Unbroken.

In fact, between 2007 and 2014, only 28 women worked as directors in the top-grossing 100 films in each year.

But is it really casting director’s fault?

Leonard Zhukovsky / Shutterstock.com
Leonard Zhukovsky / Shutterstock.com

It begs the question, if diversity is so bad in Hollywood, then why would casting directors continue to reinforce such horrible stereotypes? The answer may not be that easy to fix.

In an interview with Orange is the New Black casting director Jennifer Euston described Hollywood’s changing stance on diversity.

From NPR:

Euston says she makes casting recommendations, but the showrunners make the final call on which actors to hire. And it’s the showrunners and writers who put together the storylines. Euston has often been handed scripts that almost exclusively feature Caucasian men. In those cases, she says, “you do your best to sort of offer alternatives, if you can.”

But Euston argues that TV shows are slowly starting to feature a broader range of characters. In fact, she is optimistic that TV shows will feature more women and minorities, especially on streaming platform such as Hulu, Netflix and Amazon Prime. “I don’t think it’s a trend,” she says. “It’s evolutionary.” And more important, she adds, “It’s successful.”

The full breakdown, with many more depressing numbers, can be found here.

[WATCH] Here’s Teenage Angelina Jolie Crying and Screaming in Acting Class

0

Watch this rare 15-year old video of Angelina Jolie and Screaming in an acting class.

By now we can all agree that Angelina Jolie is an amazing actress. Her choices in movie roles are questionable at times but, at the end of the day she is a true thespian and has the training to prove it.

Angelina Jolie

This recently unearthed video of her doing exercises in acting class is really interesting piece of footage considering that she had already, or was on her way to winning, an Academy Award for her performance in Girl, Interrupted.

Angelina Jolie Acting Class

Still, it is amazing that Angelina would continue to improve her skills in acting exercise despite being on the verge of winning one of the biggest awards in acting. Jolie is more concerned with producing, directing, and helping underprivileged men and women all over the world. But, this video proves that at one time, she was focused on being the best actress in the world.

It sucks that nowadays acting talent like Angelina Jolie’s is no longer important and social media metrics like Instagram followers is what gets you an acting job.
