Quentin Tarantino: Police Are Creating “Mistrust in the Community”

Quentin Tarantino has no plans on slowing down his involvement in movements against police violence once he is done promoting his next movie, The Hateful Eight.

Despite his movie getting boycotted nationwide by police unions, the director says that he is still motivated to stop police violence.

“Right now, [promoting The Hateful Eight] is my full-time job,” he told The Guardian. “But when this is over, I want to go further with this.”

Quentin Tarantino was still finishing his movie, which comes out on December 25th, when police responded to his participation in the Rise Up October protests in NYC against police brutality against non-whites, where he spoke out as being “on the side of the murdered.”

“I was actually wrapping,” he said. “And this stuff is coming out every day, with the media capitalizing on it. I was like: ‘What the hell is going on?’ ”

Tarantino wanted to point out that he still doesn’t believe that “Every cop is a killer,” he admitted that he was shocked by the threat from the Fraternal Order of Police, the largest police union in the country.

“The fact that they would overreact to such a degree, and single me out to such a degree, and then get so carried away that they literally get out over their skis, and actually are indulging in theoretical threats of a private citizen, no, I did not expect that at all,” he said.

But, Tarantino said the response worked in his favor by putting more attention on the amount of police violence in the country.

“I actually felt kind of vindicated, at least by the people I wanted to be vindicated about. If they had just said: ‘Ah, Quentin’s an ass, he doesn’t know what the hell he’s talking about, he’s an out-of-touch celebrity, who gives a fuck what he says?’ I mean, that would have been that,” he said. “By them making such a big deal about it, the subject ended up being in the press and on television – and people had to start making their own minds up about it in a way that wasn’t happening before.”

‘Thank You For Your Service’ Atlanta Casting Call for REAL Veterans

‘Thank You For Your Service’ casting call for real military veterans in Atlanta, Georgia.

Rose Locke Casting is looking for real veterans that served in the Middle East to work on the upcoming feature film, Thank You For Your Service filming in Atlanta, Georgia starting February 2016 through May 2016.

About Thank You For Your Service:

“Thank You for Your Service” follows three U.S. soldiers who return from Iraq and struggle to integrate back into their civilian lives with their families since they are still haunted by the horrific memories of war.

To audition for a role on Thank You For Your Service, check out the casting call details below:

Thank You For Your Service Casting Call

Jaguar PS / Shutterstock.com
Jaguar PS / Shutterstock.com
We are currently seeking veterans for our upcoming feature film
“Thank You For Your Service”.
It is very important to the director and I that we make these scenes as authentic as possible. The script will bring to light many of the issues (PTSD) that some soldiers face on their return from war. It’s a story that needs to be told and we want to do it in the best possible way. I have included more info below on the novel and script.

The two major scenes that we are seeking veterans for are:
There are some smaller scenes but we will check all your availability once you have decided that you are interested.

1) Soldiers’ plane ride home from Iraq

2) VA hospital

1) The Plane scene at this time will shoot on Feb 8th.
We will shoot a different portion of the scene (on the tarmac) on Feb 17th, so ideally you would be able to work both days!
These dates could change and in the movie industry, they often do.

We are seeking younger veterans and active duty for this scene. Ages 18-30
Feb 8th – Plane Scene will shoot at the Delta Museum in Atlanta
Feb 17th – Tarmac will shoot in Kennesaw

2) For the VA scene, we are seeking ALL ages 18 and up.
As of now this scene shoots Feb 9th and/or Feb12th. Again this could change as well.
We will shoot in the Emory Hospital area.

What does being an extra entail?

Often times, it’s a lot of waiting around in a holding area while the Director and Crew are setting up the shots. So, there will be lots of down time and you should bring books, cards, etc to entertain yourselves. I don’t have the time that you will need to report, until the night before. We will start sometime in the morning. You would need to be available the entire day of shooting. So if you are interested, you need to adjust any other obligations and clear the entire day. For continuity’s sake, we can’t let you come late, leave early, or sneak out for an hour in the middle of day. When you arrive, we will have four square breakfast for you, as well as lunch. There will also be drinks and snacks around throughout the day. For the VA scene, we may ask you to bring multiple items from your closet. I will give you a description of what is wanted and then when you arrive, the Wardrobe department will help choose your outfit that they would like you to wear in the scene. There are many things that factor into their decision.

If you are interested in being apart of this project, then this is what I need:

Please email Veterans@RoseLockeCasting.com
Please send us some CURRENT pictures of you now.
We would love to see some ones from your military days, too, just so I can get a better feel.
List your age, what years you served, and if you served in a war, please list it/them. Also, include your phone number.

If you are selected to be a background actor, you won’t get rich off of this, but it is paid.
You receive 8 dollars an hour for the first 8 hours then 12 dollars every hour after.

Please feel free to pass this email onto anyone that may be interested as well. This will truly be an amazing expereince.

THIS CASTING IS ONLY FOR MILITARY VETERENS!!

Below is some more information about the novel/film:

THE NOVEL

“Thank You for Your Service” is based on the novel by David Finkel.
Please see below a summary about the novel and author
The wars of the past decade have been covered by brave and talented reporters, but none has reckoned with the psychology of these wars as intimately as the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist David Finkel. For The Good Soldiers, his bestselling account from the front lines of Baghdad, Finkel embedded with the men of the 2-16 Infantry Battalion during the infamous “surge,” a grueling fifteen-month tour that changed them all forever. In Finkel’s hands, readers can feel what these young men were experiencing, and his harrowing story instantly became a classic in the literature of modern war.

In Thank You for Your Service, Finkel has done something even more extraordinary. Once again, he has embedded with some of the men of the 2-16?but this time he has done it at home, here in the States, after their deployments have ended. He is with them in their most intimate, painful, and hopeful moments as they try to recover, and in doing so, he creates an indelible, essential portrait of what life after war is like?not just for these soldiers, but for their wives, widows, children, and friends, and for the professionals who are truly trying, and to a great degree failing, to undo the damage that has been done.

The story Finkel tells is mesmerizing, impossible to put down. With his unparalleled ability to report a story, he climbs into the hearts and minds of those he writes about. Thank You for Your Service is an act of understanding, and it offers a more complete picture than we have ever had of these two essential questions: When we ask young men and women to go to war, what are we asking of them? And when they return, what are we thanking them for?

THE SCREENPLAY
Our screenplay is written by Jason Hall. He also wrote the Oscar-nominated script “American Sniper”. Below is a synopsis of our script.

ADAM, WILL, and SOLO return from Iraq, but it’s soon clear that they’ve brought the war back with them. Traumatized by their experiences, Will is unable to cope with the betrayal by his FIANCEE upon his arrival home and commits suicide, leaving Adam and Solo to work hard not to follow him. Their wounds are mental rather than physical, making it difficult for friends and family to understand their issues, also leaving them stigmatized by their SUPERIORS and languishing in a system that’s impossibly slow rendering aid to vets. Adam and Solo’s wives SASKIA and THERESA (respectively) struggle to cope and understand the trauma of war, and only get glimpses of the problems with the help of AMANDA, a widow who is herself seeking answers and closure after the death of her husband DOSTER. At a loss and unable to find his way, Solo’s desperation drives him into the drug trade while Adam can barely hold his sanity together, feeling guilt over Doster’s death and critically injured friend, EMORY. Though hurting, Adam begins to find respite thanks to Amanda’s forgiveness. He saves Solo from certain death by drug dealer DANTE and finds him the long-term care he needs. Adam then follows Solo into the same facility and ultimately finds healing to put his life (and family) back together.

Walking Dead Fan Bites Norman Reedus at Zombie Convention

The Walking Dead fan bites Norman Reedus at a zombie convention.

On Sunday one crazy Walking Dead fan snapped at the Walker Stalker Con, a zombie, horror and sci-fi fan convention.

According to TMZ, during a photo opportunity with Norman Reedus, superfan Robin Grover told the actor how she likes to tell people that they’re married before physically biting the actor’s chest. WHAT!?

Security rushed in and was forced to restrain the woman from Norman Reedus and forced her to leave the convention.

Luckily, Norman Reedus didn’t seem to mind and didn’t press any charges because the fan didn’t do that much damage.

Norman Reedus Daryl Dixon

“Finally got to meet the love of my life, and get banned from the rest of the CON and lose two more $100 photo ops with him because I lost my mind,” Grover captioned a photo of herself and Reedus, according to Perez Hilton. “I got so excited standing beside him… & just turned my head and bit him! I don’t know what came over me. It wasn’t my intention to hurt him. I’m sorry Norman.”

You should probably expect more security at the next zombie convention.

But, it is important to point out that this is not the first time The Walking Dead fan went over the edge. Several years ago, a background extra on The Walking Dead was sentenced to prison for 18 years after sending President Obama poison. Shannon Guess Richardson, 36, was sentenced in federal court in Texas on a federal charge of possessing and producing a biological toxin. She pleaded guilty to the charge in December.

Netflix Reveals 30 New Shows and Possible Sports League

0

Netflix reveals new plans in major announcement.

Netflix is investing in original programming which is good news for filmmakers, producers, actors, and fans alike. The company has announced that it intends to boost production of original productions after the successful performance from many of their current TV shows including Narcos and Jessica Jones.

Netflix Narcos
Netflix

Speaking today at the UBS Global Media and Communications Conference in New York, Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos predicted that programming spending will hit the $5 billion mark in 2016. This will help create 30 original TV shows and programs to the Netflix network

Film Independent Forum - Day 1

Mr. Sarandos also pointed out that the Internet television network provider is currently working on becoming more of a global product, with a focus on net subscriber growth. The company has revealed its intention of expanding its services to Japan, Cuba, Italy, Span and Portuagal.

But, what is the most surprising announcement is Netflix’s plan on creating their own sports league.

Sarandos said he’s not interested in acquiring rights to big sports leagues or competing with broadcast news because he doesn’t see Netflix’ bread-and-butter — on-demand offerings — as adding anything of value to customers.

“This comes up because Netflix is seen as a substitute for cable,” he says. “People are frustrated. But making it on demand doesn’t add anything for the viewer. The other problem is that leagues have all the pricing power.”

Pausing a beat, Sarandos then added, “If there was a model where we create our own sports league, that would be interesting.”

Whoa. Netflix football? Netflix soccer? Netflix basketball? Instead of athletes going to another country to play sports, maybe we will soon see athletes playing for Netflix’s sport leagues.

Netflix Aziz Ansari

Another announcement by Netflix was the fact that Marvel’s Daredevil had even more viewers than Game of Thrones.

Netflix claims that it hosts the most-watched show not on network television, beating out top-ranked cable series Game of Thrones.

“We’re pleased to take the number two spot, but think it’s number one because they don’t measure all the devices,” he said. He went on to provide anecdotal evidence of Netflix’s popularity. He said that Aziz Ansari, star and co-writer of Netflix comedy Master of None, hasn’t been able to walk down the streets of New York City since the show premiered, even though he was able to do so anonymously for six years while starring on network comedy Parks and Recreation.

Is Chicago Too Dangerous for the Film Industry?

Is Chicago just too dangerous to support their growing film industry?

A week after a video showing a Chicago police officer killing a teenager, which forced Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel to fire his head of police after calls for his own resignation, the city has released dash cam video footage of another officer-involved shooting: A 2014 incident that left a 25-year-old man dead.

Chicago

The video above was shown at a press conference Monday afternoon held by state attorney Anita Alvarez. It shows Ronald Johnson, running away from a group of cops before officer George Hernandez fires five shots at him. According to reports, Alvarez says one bullet entered and hit Johnson’s knee, and another went through the right side of his body and out through his face.

Alvarez points out the video shows Hernandez firing his weapon but does not show Johnson being hit because he was out of dash cam’s frame.

Unlike Jason Van Dyke, the office who faces first degree murder in the killing of Laquan McDonald, Hernandez is currently not facing any charges for killing Johnson. Apparently, Johnson allegedly possessed a weapon and, according to Illinois state report, Johnson was running towards other police officers.

Johnson’s family have been quite vocal in the press about revealing the video, alleging that Johnson was unarmed when he was shot.

Also on Monday, the Department of Justice announced that it would be launching a civil rights investigation of the Chicago Police Department focusing on their history of deadly force. Alvarez said in her press conference that the footage of Johnson’s death has been released and shown to the FBI, which also decided not to investigate.

But, this is form of violence is not new. On Halloween weekend, 29 people were shot in Chicago. So many people were shot people called it The Purge.

Chicago Purge

Here is a small breakdown from the several shootings that occurred on Halloween weekend, from Fox 32 Chicago:

A man walked into a business that included a currency exchange in the 7200 block of West 51st Street about 7 p.m. and pulled out a gun, threatened the employee behind the counter and announced a robbery,

Reginald Gildersleeve, 55, of the 5000 block of South California, was shot multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene at 7:10 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The 19-year-old man was on the sidewalk in the 8700 block of South Honore Street at 7:11 p.m. when a car drove by and someone inside fired shots before leaving the area. The man heard the shots and felt pain, police said. He suffered a gunshot wound to the left leg, and was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition, police said.

About two hours earlier, two 16-year-old boys were shot in a third Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood shooting. The boys were shot in the 7300 block of South Woodlawn Avenue at 10:47 a.m., when they were approached by a group of people. One person from the group shot at the boys, and then the group ran away, police said. One of the boys suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where his condition was stabilized. The other boy, who is a gang member, suffered a graze wound to the leg, and he refused medical attention at the scene.

But, all of these recent reports of murders, begs the question – is Chicago too dangerous for the film industry?

Chicago

According to the Chicago Tribune, Illinois announced they will resume film tax credits when the budget passes through the state congress.

After spending more than five months caught up in the ongoing state budget fracas, Illinois’ film tax credit might be ready for its comeback: Gov. Bruce Rauner’s office announced it is “re-instituting the Film Tax Credit approvals.”

The deferral of the incentive program “will continue until a budget is enacted to ensure no budget impact during this time,” according to the governor’s office.

The tax incentives will give back 30% of all money spent in Illinois. But, with cops killing reported unarmed individuals, a Federal investigation in civilian killings, and reports of a “Purge” during last Halloween, can Chicago’s film industry actually exist in a community surrounded by so much violence?

Chicago

Maybe their film industry can help save the 15th ranked murder capital of the United States? NBC has recently tapped into Chicago’s film industry by producing several TV shows including Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med. In addition, Fox’s Empire is now filming throughout Chicago, Illinois. With more people involved in the film industry maybe it can help prevent horrendous murders.
