How Oprah Made Nearly $14 Million Off a Single Tweet

Oprah made $13.8 million tweeting about how much she loves to eat bread.

Weight Watchers stock soars nearly 20% after Winfrey plugs a carb-friendly diet program.

On Tuesday, the new Weight Watchers owner posted and pinned a tweet claiming that she’s lost 26 pounds on the popular program, despite eating bread every day.

Immediately after her Twitter post, WTW stock soared, going up to nearly 20% percent for the day.

From TheWrap:

Here comes the math lesson. Winfrey owns 10 percent of the company, or 15 percent when stock options are exercised. Weight Watchers has 63,621,022 shares outstanding, which would mean Winfrey owns 6,362,102.2 of those, without even exercising her option.

That means on Tuesday, Winfrey’s shares jumped in value a total of $13,805,761.80. Not bad for 31-seconds worth of work, and what sounds like a ton of ciabatta.

‘Deadpool’ Helped Ryan Reynolds Deal With His Father’s Death

Ryan Reynolds revealed a personal inside detail about the new Deadpool movie.

“I understand the idea of filtering pain through comedy,” the actor told Men’s Health about playing the lead role of “Deadpool” following his dad’s death from Parkinson’s Disease last year. “Laughing can serve you in those dark moments and even help you crawl your way back out.”

Reynolds, who stars as the anti-hero in the upcoming comic book movie adaptation, admitted that his character’s quirky sense of humor helped him cope with losing his father.

“I think there’s something really relatable about that idea, that there’s something to be learned by taking life a little less seriously,” he shared.

“In my dad’s dying moments, we were making him laugh. We were all in there together, me and my brothers, just joking with him. And of course we end up busting each other’s chops. I recommended that the doctor’s raise Dad’s dose of Dilaudid in order to make my brother more tolerable,” Reynolds continued.

“It wasn’t a bad way to go. If I could have the same death as my father, I would do it right now.”

Ryan Reynolds’ dad had been battling Parkinson’s for 20 years, passed away at the age of 74 in October.

After welcoming their first child in 2014, Reynolds and his wife Blake Lively named their daughter James in his father’s honor.

[WATCH] Casting Directors Reveal If Actors Should Ask About Lead Roles

Should actors ask casting directors for lead roles in a TV show or movie?

Are you waiting to hear about the lead role you auditioned for and you don’t want to book anything else in the mean time?

Recently, Arvold Casting’s Erica Arvold recently revealed an inside tip on the film industry and answered the age old question: should actors ask about being upgraded from a non-speaking role to a speaking role?

In one word: No.

Arvold explains that casting directors are always considering to upgrade actors to bigger and larger productions.

So, actors shouldn’t have to worry about asking a casting director if they can get upgraded because casting directors are already considering it.

Oscars Voter: Tell the NBA To Hire More White Players

One Oscar Voter is bashing the #OscarsSoWhite viral campaign.

Stephen Verona, a member of the Academy’s directors branch, has just weighed in on the #OscarsSoWhite controversy and his response is far from neutral.

Natalie Portman

In a report by The Hollywood Reporter, the director of The Lords of Flatbush, which featured Sylvester Stallone and Henry Winkler, finds the latest Oscars backlash offensive.

I never, never hire anyone because of their race, religion or political beliefs. To be lumped in as “racist” by the likes of Spike Lee and Jada Pinkett Smith is totally out of line. I believe talent is what should be honored — gifted individuals who help make movies great.

Try telling the NBA to hire more white, Latino, Chinese or Eskimo basketball players and see the backlash. And by the way, why doesn’t Spike Lee return his honorary Oscar if he’s so incensed? If people make better movies, they will be rewarded. That’s as simple as it can be.

The director is the latest industry insider to address the latest criticism and calls for change after the Oscar nominations were announced on January 14th, and not a single actor of color received a nomination for the second year in a row.

Matthew Perry: Drug Abuse Ruined My Memory of ‘Friends’ for Several Years

Matthew Perry revealed that his memory of Friends is an extreme blur after years of substance abuse.

When asked what was his least favorite episode of the hit NBC comedy Perry said: “Oh, my goodness. I think the answer is: I don’t remember three years of it,” replied Perry, whose response prompted laughs at the 2-hour-39-minute mark of that morning’s broadcast. “So, none of those. … My answer to your question is: somewhere between [Seasons] 3 and 6.”

Matthew Perry said that time period is extremely hazy, alluding to previous rehab experiences to combat the abuse of alcohol and prescription medications. “A little bit of the time, I was a little out of it, yeah,” he added.

Perry was expected to join the original cast of Friends on Sunday night, when the sitcom appeared together at a tribute to producer-director James Burrows. However, Perry missed the reunion episode because he is currently in london rehearsing his new play “The End of Longing.”

However, A “Friends” reunion of the scripted variety, Perry asserted, might not be out of the question — if the price is right.

“I don’t know what the price would be,” Perry said during Friday’s radio guest spot. “I think the actors would actually be open to it. I do. I think we would be open to doing something, some kind of — maybe some TV special; I don’t know about a movie. It’s kind of tough, because it ended on such a high note that we don’t want to ruin it. So, we’d want to be really careful, because sometimes when you do a reunion, it’s terrible and it sort of ruins the memory of the good show that you’d done before. So, we’d have to be very careful.”

Perry continued, “But I think the cast would be open to doing something like that at some point. We’ve talked about it a little bit, over dinner …. It’s a really good group. There isn’t a jerk in the group, and that really saved us for 10 years.”

Three years ago, Perry opened up his former home in an effort to help recovering drug addicts through meditation progreams and 12 step workshops.

Fox ’24’ Reboot Casts ‘Straight Outta Compton’ Actor for Lead Role

0

Fox casts Corey Hawkins for the lead role in the upcoming 24 reboot.

Fox has just found their new 24 star.

The reboot of the iconic action series has cast Straight Outta Compton breakout Corey Hawkins in the leading role.

Taking over for previous series star Kiefer Sutherland, Hawkins will play an entirely new character named Eric Carter in 24: Legacy. “Strong and smart, Eric came from a very rough background and turned his life around in the Army Rangers,” reads the official description. “Now back home in Virginia with his wife Nicole, he’s pulled back into action as his past comes looking for him.”

Carter will team up with the Counter Terrorist Unit to try and prevent an attack on American soil.

None of the original 24 cast is expected to appear in the new version, which Fox ordered to pilot earlier this month.

Unlike the first version of the series, where Jack Bauer (Sutherland) was basically a lone wolf lead character for nine seasons, the new 24 also has strong features a female co-lead role. If given a series order, 24: Legacy will also play looser with the show’s original “real time” format, which 12 episodes instead of 24.

Hawkins had a storyline on AMC’s The Walking Dead last year and a part of the action movie NOn-Stop.

He also played Dr. Dre in the critically acclaimed biodoc Straight Outta Compton. Hawkins was also cast in the upcoming film Kong: Skull Island.

It is important to point out that this month’s Television Critics Association’s press tour in Pasadena, Fox Television chairman and CEO Dana Walden and Gary Newman said they sought out a diverse actor for the leading role. “We wanted [the star] to be as different from Jack Bauer as possible, whether that’s an African-American or a Latino actor,” Walden said, with Newman adding: “As envisioned, the lead character would be diverse, so that will be our first effort in casting. As always, we’re going to cast the best actor we can find for the role. As you can imagine, bringing 24 back, we want to really try to create some distinction and make this feel different than Jack Bauer’s 24, so having a diverse actor in that lead role I think would be helpful in doing that.”

Meanwhile, Kiefer Sutherland is working with ABC for a new show called Designated Survivor, where he’ll play a man suddenly handed the presidency after a catastrophic attack during the State of the Union address.

How a New Program Could Change Florida’s Film Industry Forever

0

Florida Senator is pushing for the state to boost their film industry.

Last week, an influential senator argued “as loudly as I can” that the state needs to provide assistance in the TV and film industry, as representatives review Gov. Rick Scott’s push for $250 million in business-recruitment incentives.

According to local CBS reports, representatives across Florida are joining together to boost their film industry. For example, Senate Transportation, Tourism and Economic Development Appropriations Chairman Jack Latvala and Senator Nancy Detert are teaming up to boost Florida’s film industry.

“Other people, we hear a lot about their priorities: the governor’s priorities, the speaker’s priorities and the president’s priorities and other senators’ priorities,” Latvala said. “Well this is Sen. Detert’s last year here. And you know this is an important issue for her. And I’m going to support her on this because I think it’s also an important issue for our state. And we can’t look at economic development without including it.”

The new proposal seeks to create the Entertainment Action Fund within the Department of Economic Opportunity and for a film and entertainment commissioner to be named by Enterprise Florida, Florida’s public/private economic development agency.

While the proposal doesn’t put a dollar figure on the entertainment tax incentives, it would allow the state to pay up to 30% of production companies’ costs in Florida.

The governor would be able sign off on recommended projects under $2 million. House and Senate leaders would be able to advise the governor on projects between $2 million and $5 million. Projects seeking more that $5 million would have to go before the Joint Legislative Budget Commission, which is made up of House and Senate members.

This is a completely different kind of program in comparison to the previous 2010 incentive program in which $296 million was set aside and spent in a matter of a few months.

The new program is being labeled as a “pay as you go” program which would only allow money to be available once a company meets their contractural obligations, according to reports. “This new language is a film-reform bill, it’s not a film-incentive bill,” she said. “It doesn’t put money into a previously bad program. It reforms the entire program in order to build film in Florida as an indigenous industry, same as manufacturing, same as any industry that creates jobs.”

But, not everyone is excited about this program and are skeptical about funding the film industry with groups calling the program a giveaway of “taxpayers’ hard-earned money to Hollywood executives.”
