Thousands of Aspiring Actors Audition for ‘High School Musical 4’

Over 5,000 aspiring actors audition for High School Musical 4.

Production for the upcoming sequel of the new Disney musical High School Musical is ramping up. After the studio announced that it would release a sequel to the hit TV movie that launched the acting career of Zac Efron, thousands of aspiring actors showed up to audition for a lead role in the upcoming High School Musical 4. According to a report from  Entertainment Weekly, the announced open auditions held at the Anaheim Convention Center last month attracted roughly 5,000 participants, who were even treated to a pleasant surprise when “High School Musical” alumna Corbin Bleu showed up and gave a pep talk.

Last March, Disney Channel President Gary Marsh described what “High School Musical” meant to the Disney corporation. “It embodies all that we stand for. As a way of continuing to embrace that heritage, we’re excited to announce ‘the start of something new’ as we launch a search for a new class of East High Wildcats to star in a fourth installment of the ‘High School Musical’ franchise,” said Marsh in a statement.

The audition was part of the studio’s effort to discover new talent who will appear in the sequel to High School Musical 4. 

It was earlier reported that the sequel will feature five new major characters for the sequel of the hit musical.

Out of the thousands who auditioned, only five will be lucky and given the chance to breathe life to any of the upcoming “High School Musical 4” characters:

  • Erin: She is described as a badass soccer player who always pushes herself to the limits and is the only girl on the team.
  • Derek: He is the bad boy from another soccer team whom Erin falls in love with. Despite his bad boy image, he is a soft-hearted family guy who teaches little girls dance lessons at his family’s dance studio.
  • Campbell: Despite being a hot soccer captain, he finds himself in disappointment after finding out that the girl he likes, Erin, wants to be with Derek.
  • Nathalie: She is an outgoing cheerleader and Erin’s BFF.
  • Tamara: She is East High’s former queen bee and a cheer squad member who will attempt to regain the attention that was given to her by everybody in the past.

ABC Talent Search 2016 is Looking for YOU

ABC’s annual talent search is currently underway and the network has started accepting submission for their 2016 ABC Discovers: Digital Talent Competition.

Actors 18 and older can apply by submitting a video audition on ABCDiscovers.com of them performing one of the comedy or drama monologues posted on the ABC website. The performers are then judged by quality of performance, potential star power and technical skill. The prize this year is a $25,000 talent deal with ABC. The top 10 finalists will then be posted on their website Jul 22nd and the winner will be announced on July 26.

This year’s competition features two videos focusing on actors and the process of working with them. The first video focuses on Wendi McLendon-Covey from The Goldbergs, Randall Park from the hit show Fresh Off the Boat, and Ken Jeong from The Hangover franchise and Dr. Ken. The acotrs discuss their journey as an actor and how they made it in the film industry.

The second video features the executive producers from the hit shows black-ish, Fresh Off the Boat and Secrets and Lies giving a behind-the-scenes look at the process of working with actors in a TV series.

The Digital Talent Competition is part of ABC Discovers, an initiative that includes New York and Los Angeles Talent showcases,Actor Audition Workshop Week, Latino/Hispanic Outreach, Asian/Pacific Islander Outreach and Global Talent Outreach. The 2015 Digital Competition winner was Cornelius Smith Jr. and now has a recurring role on ABC’s hit TV show Scandal.

Michael Bay Casts the “World’s Loneliest Dog” for ‘Transformers 5’

Michael Bay uses his A-list status to do something amazing for the “world’s loneliest dog”.

While Michael Bay may have asked Megan Fox to audition for a role in Transformers by having her wash his Ferrari, Michael Bay may have a soft side outside of his movie making bravado. For example, after watching a 60 Minutes segment on wingsuits, Bay forced a lengthy scene featuring them in Transformers 3. And now he’s doing it again, and it’s pretty amazing.

Apparently, Michael Bay read a news story about “Britain’s loneliest dog” – a ‘Staffordshire bull terrier cross’ named Freya, who suffers from epilepsy and has spent six years at a shelter – and decided that it should have a role in the upcoming Transformers: The Last Knight. Frey’s role is currently unknown, but hopefully it will have more dignity and better life than living inside a shelter.

Marvel is Making ‘Ant-Man’ and ‘Rocket and Groot’ TV Series

Marvel is going to make an Ant-Man and Rocket and Groot animated TV show.

Marvel is looking to expand their franchises with a TV show. According to a Variety report, Marvel is going to start creating animated TV shows based on two of their most popular characters, Ant-Man and Rocket and Groot. The production for the new project will take place in France – thanks to the country’s generous tax rebates on animation work.

Both series are being made by French filmmakers. In fact, the team behind Ant-Man, Ugo Bienvenu and Kevin Manach, have a long history of making retro style superhero shows. For example, check out the video below.

Rocket and Groot is being directed by Arnaud Delord. He has a long resume of creating music-video style videos, but it still seems interesting enough to feature raccoons and giant trees for a Marvel project.

But, there are several additional animated projects headed to France in order to take advantage of the country’s film tax credits including DreamWork Animation’s Captain Underpants, and Paramount and MGM’s new Johnny Depp movie, Gnomeo & Juliet, which is currently titled Sherlock Gnomes.

‘Me Before You’ Sparks Backlash #MeBeforeEuthanasia

The disabled community bashes ‘Me Before You’ for the movie’s casting and storyline.

The new movie Me Before You is based on the 2012 best-selling novel about a young woman who is hired by a wealthy family as a caregiver for their adult sun, who sustained a spinal cord injury and is now a quadriplegic. Over the course of six months, Louisa’s (Emilia Clarke) charm and personality uplift Will (Sam Claflin), and the the two eventually fall in love.

While the movie sounds romantic, many disabled people and those in the disability community bashed the movie for casting another able-bodied actor portraying a disabled character. A new phenomenon that some have called “cripface.”

But, after the movie premiered in theaters, the real controversy started. In the movie, the character Will seeks an assisted suicide and, despite the attempts of his family to dissuade him from killing himself, he remains resolute in his goal. The film ends with Louisa following Will’s last wishes for her, using the money he left her to travel and the movie ends with “live boldly.” People have since started protesting on Twitter with the hashtag #MeBeforeEuthanasia.

The Hollywood Reporter recently spoke with a quadriplegic actor about the movie. “The message of this movie is that it’s better for this person to die in order to be of service to her than for him to live,” says actor Zack Weinstein.

If Hollywood has a hard time casting a non-white actor for a traditionally non-white role, I find it extremely likely that casting directors will choose actors for disabled roles.

Toddlers Recreate ‘The Walking Dead’s Most Graphic Scenes [VIDEO]

Someone has recreated the violence of The Walking Dead with toddlers.

Mother Hubbard Photography is causing controversy around the Internet amongst The Walking Dead fans after recreating some of The Walking Dead’s most iconic, brutal scenes, but featuring toddlers, and the results are pretty shocking…

The photos are from Mother Hubbard Photography, a New Jersey-based company that specializes in “outdoor sessions, 1st birthday smashcake photos, modeling portfolios, family, children, maternity, engagements, holiday pictures, & so much more!”

In one of the photos, it features a child version of Carol getting ready to execute an equally young Lizzie in a recreation of what is considered one of the most graphic and shocking scenes in TV history. If you’re wondering, Alana Hubbard, photographer and the mother of the kids who “star” as Rick and Carol in the photos, had no qualms about the shoot.

“I actually asked my family and friends what the most iconic scenes [of the series] are, and what they would like to see, and I did it off that,” explained Hubbard. “I don’t see it as a big deal. The kids were all laughing, no children were harmed, no children even had zombie make-up on. It was all edited in Photoshop. They had a fun time killing zombies and running around.”

There are dozens of pictures over at Mother Hubbard Photography’s Facebook page, but Hubbard wants you to know that her kids had a great time recreating the Walking Dead’s controversial finale, shown above, where Negan chooses which of his victims to bludgeon to death with a baseball bat.

“I have videos on my Facebook feed of the kids running around and playing with each other. And when I was shooting the Negan scene, you can see a live video of that,” said Hubbard. “All the kids wanted to get dead. They had a blast!”

AMC’s ‘Better Call Saul’ Season 3 Open Casting Call

AMC’s hit TV series Better Call Saul is now casting extras in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

While filming for Better Call Saul does not start until September, casting directors are now casting extras for season 3 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

During last week’s Vulture Festival, creator Peter Gould gave a few clues about where the show might be headed. Gould revealed that the series might distance itself from the Breaking Bad’s already established storylines.

“I don’t think anything is predetermined,” Gould explained. “Even with ‘Breaking Bad’ we had a story that was set up from the beginning. ‘Mr. Chips’ turns into ‘Scarface’. This show we have Jimmy McGill becomes Saul Goodman, which in some ways seems not as extreme of a journey, a different kind of journey.”

In addition, it’s rumored that the third season will spend more time exploring Saul’s life after Walter White.

Atlanta May Be Forced to Raise Taxes to Support the Entertainment Industry

Atlanta’s Cobb County will be forced to raise taxes in order to complete public projects.

Georgia is currently undergoing a major entertainment industry renaissance. There are film tax credits to allow for major feature films to film in Atlanta, there’s a new Atlanta Falcons stadium and a new Braves stadium. But, it looks as though Georgia may not be able to afford this new era of tax credits for the rich.

In 2008, Cobb County approved $40 million to buy land for public parks, in an attempt to meet the national standard. Residents approved the board measure with a 65 percent voting yes in a referendum. But, that money has not materialized, even after county commissioners found hundreds of millions to fund the new Atlanta Braves’ stadium – a brand new stadium that cost of nearly $400 million to Cobb County taxpayers.

It’s important to point out that the decision pay for the new Braves ball park was decided by county officials and not the residents of Cobb County – it didn’t even allow for public residents to vote for. In fact, one commissioner said no vote was held because they did not want to pay $300,00 for a special election to decide the future of $400,000,000.

And now, Commission Chairman Tim Lee says, via Field of Schemes, that the county will need to increase taxes if residents want those parks. 

Cobb County residents were told that their taxes will not go up, if a new stadium is built. However, every time a city or county pays for a stadium through taxes or taking from the general fund, taxes usually increase. In fact, SunTrust park was approved at a time Cobb County schools were desperately slashing budgets. In fact, nearly 200 teachers, school officials, and other positions were cut in order to save money. Apparently, The Cobb County School System, like most in Georgia, faces a decline in revenue because of fewer state dollars as well as property tax collections.

And many reports suggest that this is the start of a new era of tax increases to support Georgia’s new renaissance. Well, at least you have a new stadium, superhero movies, and traffic.
