CBS ‘MacGyver’ Atlanta Casting Call for FBI Agents

CBS MacGyver is now casting FBI agents, models, and kid actors in Atlanta, Georgia

CBS new TV series MacGyver is now casting new talent in Atlanta, Georgia. Central Casting is now casting actors, models, and talent to play extras at an estate party. In addition, producers are looking for talent to play FBI agents and bikini models. Filming will take place between Sunday, July 10th through Tuesday, July 26th in Atlanta, Georgia.

About MacGyver:

A reimagining of the classic series, is an action-adventure drama about 20-something Angus “Mac” MacGyver who creates a clandestine organization within the U.S. government where he uses his extraordinary talent for unconventional problem solving and vast scientific knowledge to save lives. Joining his team on high-risk missions around the globe is maverick former CIA agent Jack Dalton. Under the aegis of the Department of External Services, MacGyver takes on the responsibility of saving the world, armed to the teeth with resourcefulness and little more than bubble gum and a paper clip.

‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s Ellie Kemper Shares Amazing Acting Advice

Ellie Kemper shares amazing acting tips and stories behind her acting career.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt has quickly become one of Netflix’s most popular TV series. The comedy focuses on the character, played by Ellie Kemper, who makes her way to NYC after being locked in an underground bunker for fifteen years. The show’s popularity is largely attributable to Kemper’s acting abilities, coupled with the off-the-wall behavior Kimmy’s roommate, Titus (Tituss Burgess) and her employer, Jacqueline Vorhees, played by Jane Krakowski.

Written by husband wife team Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is a popular comedy series, but also a show with real emotions. It was also written with Kemper in mind for the leading role, which is either a massive compliment and major risk for Tina Fey and her husband.

“In terms of playing Kimmy’s naive side, there is always a danger of that being grating or obnoxious for people to watch,” Kemper says.

“So I think it’s just a balance of she is so sincere in her lack of knowledge, I guess, and she’s so determined to catch up on it, I think that playing it very sincerely helps to alleviate the risk of appearing grating or obnoxious in the fact that she doesn’t know a lot of stuff.”

Kemper’s approach to the role has worked out for her. However, it was a long time coming for Kemper. In fact, she auditioned for a role on Parks and Recreation, a role that would later go to Aziz Ansari.

“I had met with [Parks and Recreation creators] Greg Daniels and Mike Schur, who ran the ship at The Office and a couple months later they called me in to read a part with the casting director Allison Jones, but then my manager called me a month later to let me know I hadn’t gotten [the role of Aziz Ansari‘s character’s wife on Parks and Rec]. …

She would later audition for a role on The Office. “they called me in for this four-episode arc for a temporary receptionist who was filling in when Pam went to the Michael Scott Paper Co. [on The Office]. So they called me in to audition and I read with Ed Helms [of The Office]. …

Kemper admits that after the writers got to know Kemper’s acting, they rewrote the character. “[Erin, the character] was more serious and a little bit more sarcastic, I think, at the beginning, and then I fear that as the writers got to know me, they sort of made Erin weirder, so that’s sort of how she morphed into the weirdo rube that she became.”

Kemper also revealed that she learned how to improv by working with Jon Hamm in high school. ““He attended my school, my high school, John Burroughs, and then went to college and came back after college and taught theater at our high school for a year, so I was a freshman taking a ninth grade … Introduction to Theater course, and he taught the improv portion of that class. …”

She said it was shocking to see Jon Hamm on buses and billboards as Don Draper in Mad Men. “Wait a minute, that’s Mr. Hamm? He’s this arresting matinee idol.” … It was so cool to see that. By the way, I have to tell you, that I came out to Los Angeles to put on this one-person show I had been staging, trying to get an agent and a job, and I was in Los Angeles doing it and this was, like, the first season that he was on Mad Men, and I emailed him just to see if he might remember me and if he would come support me at my show, and he wrote right back and he was front row in that show, wearing his St. Louis Blues hat. … I will say, he sort of stole the spotlight a little bit, everyone was like, “Jon Hamm is here,” but that was fine with me.”

Here’s the reason why Will Smith wasn’t in Independence Day 2.

Twenty years ago, Independence Day turned Will Smith from a sitcom actor to a mega-movie star.

Independence Day: Resurgence opens in theaters Friday. But Will Smith’s acting talents will not be appearing on the silver screen to do battle against aliens against with Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox, and Bill Pullman, all members of the original cast who signed on for round two. So why isn’t Will Smith back?

Apparently, Will Smith’s character Steven Hiller has died. Specifically: “While test piloting the ESD’s new alien hybrid fighter, an unknown malfunction causes the death of Col. Hiller.”

Director Roland Emmerich shed some details on the situation during an interview with HeyUGuys. Apparently, Smith was included in the original script as part of a father-son storyline. But after Emmerich hired two new younger writers, they decided to change the storyline to be about a younger generation taking over, which made Will Smith unnecessary for the sequel.

Will Smith, however, explained in an interview on BBC Radio 1Xtra that it really came down to a scheduling conflict.

“It was one of those things — I had a couple of films lined up, I had Concussion and Suicide Squad, and so it was a decision, timing-wise, between Independence Day and Suicide Squad,” the actor said. “They were sending pictures from the set, and I was like, ahh.”

“The world is in a place of nostalgia right now,” he added. “Specifically in entertainment, there’s such a pull for nostalgia, so it was just the perfect opportunity and it didn’t work out.”

So apparently, Will Smith turned down Independence Day 2 for Suicide Squad. And Will Smith may have dodged a bullet. According to box office reports, Will Smith’s Independence Day 2 bombed in the box office. Independence Day 2 earned only $41.6 million, which is a far cry from the original movie’s $100 million debut.

‘Game of Thrones’ Will NOT Film in Atlanta

HBO’s Game of Thrones will not film in Atlanta, Georgia.

Following the news of that United Kingdom’s film industry is coming to and thanks to Brexit, rumors swirled that HBO’s hit TV series Game of Thrones was going to film in Georgia. Unfortunately for aspiring Atlanta actors and crew members, HBO reveals they will not be moving from the UK to film the final two seasons of GOT.

Game of Thrones

“We do not anticipate that the result of the EU Referendum will have any material effect on HBO producing ‘Game of Thrones’,” the network said in a statement. In fact, the show, now in its sixth season, continues to recieve government funding form the UK, including from Northern Ireland Screen, which provides government financial aid to local businesses.

Rumors started after Thursday’s vote that the $10 million per episode series would lose EU funding, but the Northern Ireland Screen said it does not use European Union money to find the series.

Casting Directors Reveal the Hardest Roles to Cast

Casting directors reveal the hardest part of their jobs.

Actors have a tough job. They are to read a few lines of dialogue and try to assume what the casting director, director, producer, and studio is looking for. But, for casting directors, it is sometimes extremely stressful to find the right talent for a project they are working on. Especially, when it’s for a one-liner or small acting role. In fact, John Papsidera, who is the casting director behind Hulu’s Casual and who works with Christopher Nolan argues that the most difficult roles to cast are small ones to ensure that the actor in the role will actually do a good job.

He says, “The smaller roles are the hardest thing to do because they need to be alive in a moment, and then leave.” Nonetheless, Papsidera doesn’t think it takes long time to find the right actor when he or she comes in. He explains, “Once in a while, somebody will surprise you with a choice, but most of the time I think you know pretty quick when they come in the room. I’m a big believer that you get a sense of somebody’s essence most of the time—it’s a natural, instinctive thing that I really try and rely on.”

Papsidera is not alone. Barbara Fiorentino, who casts Lifetime’s UnREAL and has also worked on The Shield and CSI: NY, says sometimes it isn’t finding the actor that’s the problem. She argues that getting the studio to agree on the casting decision is the hardest part. She argues, “One of the toughest roles that I had to cast—it was getting the actor that we wanted cast—would have been Alex O’Loughlin in his first series regular role on a show called Moonlight for CBS, in the role of Mick St. John. It was only on for one year, but he was an unknown from Australia. It was incredibly challenging to get the studio and network to sign off on him. It went all the way up the ranks to Les Moonves, who, I’m told, when he saw his screen test, within fifteen seconds said, ‘Cast him. He’s a TV star.’”

Fiorentino said she often has to convince executives to go with her casting decision. “A lot of times when someone comes into the room in that first audition, you just know. That being said, especially when you’re casting a television pilot, a lot of people have to agree with that. Sometimes it’s more of a struggle to get everyone who makes those decisions on board with a particular actor.”

There’s a lot more to an audition than just reading lines. Who knew!?

Georgia Reps to Investigate “Diversity” in Georgia’s Film Industry

Georgia reps vote to study minority participation in the Peach State’s film industry.

Georgia nearly lost their entire film industry following their “religious freedom bill” whereby, Netflix, Disney, Marvel, and several other major studios announced they will boycott the state if the bill was passed.

Luckily for Georgia’s film industry, Gov. Nathan Deal vetoed the bill and Georgia is on track to becoming the filmmaking capital of the world. However, House representatives are worried that the Peach State has a “diversity” problem and is now launching an investigation to study how diverse is Georgia’s film industry.

According to the AJC’s Nancy Badertscher, a House committee voted on Wednesday to determine how many minorities are participating in the state’s growing film and TV industry. From the AJC:

The committee vote came after witnesses, including the son of the late Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson, urged lawmakers to take on the issue for which Hollywood film-makers have been drawing fire.

House Resolution 1577 is calling for seven House members to examine the minority participation in Georgia’s $6 billion TV and film industry. Supporters of the new study said that with the film industry’s growing size, it’s important to encourage diversity, inclusion and promote minority participation in the film industry.

Chloe Grace Moretz was amazing in the sequel to Neighbors, Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising. But, this former child actress revealed she had body image issues and wanted plastic surgery to fix them when she was only 16.

“I wanted a boob job,” the actress told Elle. “I wanted the fat pad under my chin to be removed. I wanted a butt reduction, or whatever. And my mom said, ‘Absolutely not, you’re not allowed to have plastic surgery.’ And because of that, I found a lot of power within my insecurities. They’re what make me who I am now.”

During her interview, Moretz, who is also the new face of Coach, revealed a conversation between her and Hillary Clinton. Moret explained that “many girls are afraid to be who they want to be” because of “underlying deep-rooted sexism” in America.

And she wants to change the world through her modeling deal with Coach. “I try to keep it natural,” she added. “When I signed onto the Coach ads, we were all on the same page that the hair and the makeup are things you could do in real life. I try to break barriers. I try to not post Instagrams where I Facetune my face and I wear a ton of makeup.”

Moretz continued: “Yes, I have had hair extensions. Yes, the reason I have this body is because I work out seven times a week. Yes, I eat really clean — even though I don’t always want to, and I definitely cheat. But you’re not just born with this. Sometimes you have to fight for and work for things, and be happy with who you are at the same time. And that’s a really hard balance but I want to show it to young women.”

It’s important to point out that Moretz has been outspoken about body image in the past. Recently, she responded to Kim Kardashian’s nude selfie, saying that the reality star is a bad role model for young women.

“@KimKardashian I truly hope you realize how important setting goals are for young women, teaching them we have so much more to offer than … just their bodies,” the actress wrote on Twitter in March.

Man Who Inspired ‘American Pie’s Steve Stifler Found Guilty of Murder

The guy who inspired American Pie’s Steve Stifler was found guilty of murder.

Brian Krebs, 42, was convicted of the 2011 murder of Jimmy Pagano. According to reports, Krebs stabbed a man in the neck during a fight in Fort Lauderdale. He argued with the bartender after he fell $2 short of his $8 check. Five years later, Krebs was convicted for murder. According to Daily Mail, Krebs went to highschool with Adam Herz, the movie’s screenwriter was and was the motivation and character behind Steve Stifler.

Herz admitted he has not seen Krebs since high school and insists Stifler was a compound of the traits of his fellow students.

The first movie in the hit American Pie feature film hit theaters in 1999 and became an instant hit. Steve Stifler played played a hard-drinking, womanizing lacrosse player for the fictional East Great Falls High. The character showed up again in American Pie 2 in 2001 and again in American Wedding in 2003. He then returned in American Pie: Reunion in 2012 with the original cast.

Atlanta’s Film Industry Could Skyrocket Thanks to Brexit

Georgia’s film industry could become the filmmaking capital of the world thanks to Brexit.

As we pointed out earlier, Brexit could seriously damage the future of the European film industry. But, one particular show may be in real trouble, Game of Thrones.

According to Foreign Policy, the location of Jon Snow and Ramsay Bolton’s climatic fight in “Battle of the Bastards” was made possible by the European Regional Development Fund, which was designed to encourage economic growth in underdeveloped areas across Europe. That’s what the fund did for Northern Ireland, as the extra cash attracted Game of Thrones to film there. Now all of that financial support is gone. The local economy won’t be able to grant Game of Thrones cheap access and labor to the those in the area. It’s going to cost a lot more, an HBO may not want to pay the bill.

“It might be up in the air for U.S. studios who want to film in the U.K.,” said Peter Chase, a senior fellow with the German Marshall Fund in Brussels. “There are E.U. programs to help fund all of this. If the U.K. is no longer part of the E.U., that has the potential to go away.”

And The Game of Thrones is not the only show to suffer because of Britain’s decision to leave the European Union. According to CNBC, European Regional Development Fund paid groups like Creative Europe $32 million in assistance over the last seven years. Depending on how the Brexit plays out in the near future, these economic losses could damage Britain’s entertainment industry.

However, it could be a recipe for success for those in Atlanta, Georgia. Currently, Georgia provides an unlimited tax credit of 30% for qualified TV shows and movies that decide to film in the state. In addition, in a recent study, the United Kingdom was ranked second for the most TV shows and movies filming in Britain.

If Brexit causes the UK’s film industry to collapse, then expect Atlanta’s film industry to skyrocket and perhaps surpass Los Angeles. That means, it is quite possible that Game of Thrones could be filming a scene on Peachtree street in the next few months. Hey, stranger things have happened.

Channing Tatum Turns Down ‘Magic Mike 3’

Channing Tatum is not interested in making another Magic Mike movie.

It looks as though Channing Tatum is done with the Magic Mike franchise. After a surprisingly successful Magic Mike and 2015’s slightly less successful Magic Mike XXL, it appears as thought Channing Tatum is throwing in his stripper towel.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that instead of a third movie, Tatum is focusing on creating stage plays in Vegas and Broadway.

“The third installment will be the show, and I think it has to evolve past these guys,” he said of the stripper movies. “The first one was about Mike, the second one was about the guys and I think the third one is really about man and woman having a conversation about sex and themselves and who we all are. That’s the next step I would like to take with the story.”

It makes sense that Channing Tatum isn’t interested in making another Magic Mike XXL movie. The movie didn’t do very well in the box office. In fact, Magic Mike XXL earned 45 percent below the $49.6 million the original “Magic Mike” earned in its first five days in 2012.

However, Channing Tatum is moving forward and thinking about live shows. He’s made it clear in the past that he’s interested in moving way from acting and looking towards directing. Besides, he’s working on creating a vodka brand. IN addition, Channing Tatum is working on producing a TV series based on Step Up, the movie that made him famous. The new series will be the first scripted drama for YouTube, and will air on the subscription service, YouTube Red.
