CBS Nationwide Open Casting Call for Aspiring Actors

CBS is holding an open casting call to launch a new drama diversity casting initiative.

CBS is looking for the next breakout talent. Selected actors will have the opportunity to audition for  a lead role on a drama, comedy and other TV show.

 

CBS announced today the launch of the CBS Drama Diversity Casting Initiative, a nationwide program to find new breakout talent for CBS’s current series and upcoming pilots. The initiative, which is part of the CBS Diversity Institute, is designed to reach untapped talent across the country, including areas with limited access to industry professionals, and bring them to the attention of casting executives and CBS showrunners, culminating with a Network screen test in Los Angeles. The new initiative builds upon the Network’s long-running, successful Sketch Comedy Showcase.

Beginning Thursday, Oct. 13, through Friday, Oct. 28, actors 18 and older can submit a self-taped monologue via www.CBSDiversity.com.

The initiative is focused on increasing opportunities for people who belong to groups that have traditionally been underrepresented, including African American, Asian American, Latino, Native American, Pacific Islander, LGBTQ actors and performers with disabilities. Actors should possess strong dramatic talent and a technical skill set.

CBS casting executives will review all online submissions and make selections for regional callback auditions in Atlanta (Nov. 7-9), Austin (Nov. 3-4), Chicago (Nov. 2-4), Miami (Nov. 10-11) and San Francisco (Nov. 10-11), where the actors will rehearse with casting executives and be put on tape. Following these regional casting sessions, 14-16 actors will be selected to travel to Los Angeles for a Network screen test that will be utilized for casting opportunities for current series, pilot season and beyond.

“This outreach is a real opportunity for CBS to discover actors located across the country, outside of Los Angeles and New York, who haven’t had the chance to meet or be seen by network casting executives,” said Glenn Geller, President CBS Entertainment. “We’ve had great success with our CBS Diversity Sketch Comedy Showcase, which launched the careers of numerous actors, and we are confident this will do the same.”

The Network’s ongoing talent initiatives are part of the CBS Diversity Institute, a comprehensive program designed to identify and develop diversity and inclusion within the writing, directing and talent communities. In addition to the Comedy and Drama Showcases, the CBS Diversity Institute includes the CBS Writers Mentoring Program, the CBS Directing Initiative and numerous actor workshops conducted nationwide, as well as writer workshops conducted in Los Angeles.

Real Shootout On Set of NBC’s ‘Shades of Blue’

Shades of Blue cast are reportedly okay after a real shooting took place on set of NBC hit Jennifer Lopez cop drama.

According to Deadline.com, a real life shooting took place on set of NBC’s cop drama Shades of Blue on Wednesday night in Brooklyn, New York. Apparently, several men with guns interrupted the location shoot.

From Deadline:

There was gunfire in the streets where the series was filming, I am told by people on the set. I hear police came and quickly took control over the situation. While a number of cast and crew members are shaken, sources close to the production say that everyone on the show is safe.

Apparently, Lopez had already left for the day, but guest star Kathryn Kates was in her trailer. Two production assistants supposedly banged on her door, trying to escape the chaos of the set. Everyone is safe, though shaken by the experience.

The series stars Jennifer Lopez as the main character Harlee Santos, a single-mother FBI agent, who is forced to work in the FBI’s anti-corruption task force, while dealing with her own financial problems.

There’s been no comment from the NYPD or Lopez.

‘Game of Thrones’ Actor Reveals He Wet His Pants as a Child Actor

Games of Thrones’ Jack Gleeson peed his pants as a child actor on set of Reign of Fire.

It’s been nearly three years since Jack Gleeson’s time on Game of Thrones came to a screeching halt. But even today, the film community and GOT fans have praised the young actor’s acting skills.

This past weekend, Gleeson was one of the speakers at New York Comic-Con, where he had a bit of an embarrassing story from his child acting days.

In 2002, Gleeson was one of nearly two dozen Irish kid actors involved in a scene in Reign of Fire, a feature film which dragons are reawakened in the present day and go to war with humans.

Gleeson says he remembers having to go to the bathroom while shooting, but was told by the crew to stay still. The nine-year-old actor gave it his best shot, but eventually could not hold it in any longer.

“I just kind of had to wet myself,” he said, according to MTV News. “I was like an eight-year-old or nine-year-old kid and I had to piss my pants on set of ‘Reign of Fire.’

“I tried to be as cool and collected as possible and then I acted my socks off. I didn’t let it affect my performance,” he added.

Gleeson said this moment, while very embarrassing, ended up being an important learning experience for him when it came to building endurance as an actor. He would later use this experience when it came to acting through discomfort several times on Game of Thrones.

Gabrielle Union Sues BET Over ‘Being Mary Jane’ Pay

Filming for the fourth season of Being Mary Jane is currently underway. But, the future of the show remains unclear as the show’s leading actress, Gabrielle Union, is reportedly suing BET.

In a lawsuit filed in the Los Angeles County Superior Court, the Being Mary Jane star claims the network is attempting to combine seasons four and fine of the drama into one 20-episode season in order to shortchange her by extending the length of the season beyond the terms of her deal.

“Although BET represented and assured Miss Union before she agreed to perform in ‘Being Mary Jane’ that it would never produce more than thirteen (13) episodes per season of the series, BET now wants to shoot twenty (20) episodes of the series back-to-back and cram all of the episodes into a single season in order to fraudulently extend the term of Ms. Union’s contract,” the complaint said.

Union is suing the network for breach of contract and negligent misrepresentation, and is asking to be awarded as much as $1 million.

Under the terms of her deal, BET had the option to extend Union’s employment for four additional seasons beyond the first, with the actress to receive $150,000 per episode for the first four seasons, and $165,000 per episode for a fifth season.

“It is outrageous that BET would treat one of its biggest stars in this manner after all she has done to support the network and contribute its success,” the complaint says.
