Hayley Atwell shares amazing tips for aspiring actors.

Hayley Atwell is most known for her lead role in the TV series Agent Carter. Despite getting canceled, Atwell ended up landing a major role on another ABC series, Conviction. In a recent interview with Moviefone, Atwell openly discussed her acting career, why she wanted to become an actress, and shared amazing tips for aspiring actors.

Atwell explained that as a child she grew up very show and inspired to become an actress after attending a theater production with her mother. She says, “I was very shy. I didn’t think or didn’t know if I could do anything. I wasn’t kind of a showy kid at all. Didn’t have a showy mom either. But I loved theater, and she would bring me to theater. And I would watch the works of Helen Mirren and Fiona Shaw, Juliet Stevenson, Helen McCrory, Judi Dench — these women, these powerful women who were clever and they were empathetic, but they were also complicated. And I looked at them and I thought, ‘Whatever they are, I want to live in that world.’ And I felt that the actors that I aspired to kind of be in rooms with were ones who were aware of current affairs. They had strong opinions. They were willing to challenge themselves and their kind of muscularity and their ability to hold an audience for two hours on a stage. And what that really takes. So that, for me, was always what I wanted to do.”

Atwell was later asked what was the best career advice that she had ever received, Atwell joked, “Oh God, that’s really hard. Emma Thompson said, ‘Always wear matching underwear and matching bra.’ I do, and that really helps!”

Getting more serious, she continues, ’d say the main thing is: show up. Show up and be professional. And to be good at what we do, I believe I’m figuring it out how good I am at it, but it takes a discipline. And I think that can be a danger, that sometimes actors get to a point and then they can be lazy. And the minute I feel like I’m starting to dip, I get very scared. Then I get restless. Then I get bored. And I go, ‘I’m missing out on the side of being in this industry which is to be incredibly stimulated and challenged in many ways and to be privileged enough to be working with truly great minds.’ That’s what inspires me, and I hope that I keep going forward. So my main thing is I hope I always feel like an apprentice.”

Here’s What It’s Like to Audition for ‘The Walking Dead’

Want to audition for a role on The Walking Dead?

The Walking Dead is one of the most popular TV shows in the United States. Millions of people across the country tune in every week to see what Rick and the gang are up to. But, what is it like to actually audition for a role on The Walking Dead?

Recently it was announced that Khary Payton was cast to play a major role on The Walking Dead season 7. In an interview with ComicBook.com, Payton opened up about his audition experience, saying “it was one of the more substantial auditions I’ve ever done.”

In season seven, Khary Payton joins the cast of The Walking Dead aas Ezekiel, a former zookeeper who keeps a tiger as a pet and the leader of a group of survivors known as “The Kingdom”. Payton is no stranger to Hollywood. He has done voiceover work for series like Teen Titans and The Lion Guard, but he was excited for a chance to join the cast of The Walking Dead.

However, the audition process was grueling. “The audition was five pages long of me talking!”

Despite the large number of lines he had to memorize, Payton was excited about the role.

He recalls, “It was one of the more substantial auditions I’ve ever done. I immediately called my agent and manager to find out if I was in the mix for this. Because if I’m not, let me just find a tiny island to go to for a little while so I can get my mind off of it.”

While waiting to hear back, Payton began to notice similarities between himself and Ezekiel. He explains, “I feel like I had a connection with this character in a weird way. I always say that when you’re in this acting business, you get a lot of rejection. You get a lot of people telling you no and you’ve got to get up, dust yourself off, and try again, and I feel like in a way Ezekiel fits that same mold where he’s in the hope business. I always say I’m in the hope business. You’ve got to stay hopeful. You’ve got to get up off your behind and try again no matter how many times they tell you it’s not going to work out. Your opinion’s got to overshadow whatever negativity might come your way. In a zombie apocalypse one can find themselves getting down about their situation, but Ezekiel’s not one of those people. He fights with all he’s got to make sure he stays positive and stays joyful. That’s what I love about him.”

Because of that, Payton felt extremely anxious while waiting to hear back from producers. He explains, “I felt like a guy in a skiing championship. They have all these championship skiers and this one scrub who is okay. Let’s have him try out and go first, and he broke the record. You go sit in the clubhouse while we see how these other guys do. I just had to wait to see if any of the other guys were going to go faster than me. They said nobody went faster than you – you get the dreadlocks.”
