The George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston has already received more than 9,000 evacuees. Following all the destruction and devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey in Texas, the American spirit and the kindness and strength of humanity have shown through.
One such instance, occurred Tuesday when someone dressed as Spider-Man visited the shelter at George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston to cheer up the children. According to Houston’s ABC 13 News, the shelter has already received more than 9,000 evacuees.
Videos posted on social media of Spider-Man walking through the shelter, visiting kids, handing out stickers, putting huge smiles on their faces, is just another instance of hope in Houston.
An estimated 30,000 to 40,000 homes have been destroyed and over 50 inches of rain has fallen in some parts of Texas, which has led to at least 13 deaths.
With reports of a chemical explosion, hundreds missing, and thousands of people who lost their home following Hurricane Harvey, one Atlanta casting company is stepping up and doing what it takes to help those who have lost it all.
Jamie Lynn Catrett and Catrett Casting have launched an initiative called “Donations for Texas” and they need your help.
“Last year, the members of the Atlanta Film Community pulled together to help our friends in Tennessee following the Great Smoky Mountains Wildfires. Now it’s time to rally once again and answer the call to aid our friends in Texas following the devastation of Hurricane Harvey and the unprecedented flooding,” Jamie Lynn Catrett said in a statement.
“Our plan is to collect donation items (non-perishable food goods, clothing, blankets, etc.) at a central drop-off location. We will then combine all of the items, load them onto a box truck, and then send them off to Texas,” Catrett Casting added.

Here’s how it works: Simply film a video that shows the outside of your home, the people who live there and the room that needs the most design help.Â
 Keep the video to three minutes max, then upload it to Ikea’s casting call site. If your submission is chosen, the Ikea Home Tour Squad will be sent to your door, ready to transform your space with creative ideas and Ikea products that their design experts will probably even assemble themselves.Â

Chloe Bennet, who stars in the popular TV series Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, revealed she had to change her name from Chloe Wang in order to become successful in Hollywood.
The actresses recently praised Ed Skrein for pulling out of Hellboy over whitewashing concerns, now the actress is revealing how changing your name can also change your career.
She told an Instagram follower who queried her name change: “Hollywood is racist and wouldn’t cast me with a last name that made them uncomfortable.”
“Changing my last name doesn’t change the fact that my BLOOD is half Chinese, that I lived in China, speak Mandarin or that I was culturally raised both American and Chinese… It means I had to pay my rent.”
She added: “I’m doing everything I can, with the platform I have, to make sure no one has to change their name again, just so they can get work.”
Chloe previously explained her name change led to a more successful career almost immediately.
“Oh, the first audition I went on after I changed my name, I got booked,” she told The Daily Beast last year. “So that’s a pretty clear little snippet of how Hollywood works.”
