Why Georgia’s Film Industry is About To Get Even Bigger

Georgia’s film industry is going to get even bigger.

According to reports, Founders Studios, a major film, and TV soundstage complex in Fayette County, Georgia, is increasing their film studio lot from 90 acres to 200 acres. The project is so big it is expected to cost the studio $150 million to complete.

The large film and TV soundstage complex will have 5 different “hubs” which will each have 50,000 square feet of sound stage space, 45,000 square feet of office space, set construction and workspace space and other features. This will allow an entire TV show or movie to film in one location.

In a statement, Harbin said, “I am excited to begin construction on this development. The support from the Tyrone community and Fayette County has been incredible and the catalyst for expanding the project.”

The Founders developers are also constructing a mixed-use area with a movie theater, restaurants, shopping, walking areas, green spaces and upscale residential living. Similar to Pinewood Forrest, a 234-acre “live, work, create” community underway in Fayette County.

“Essentially, half will be the studio development and the other half will be mixed-use,” said Founders Studios President Harbin in a July 2017 interview with Atlanta Business Chronicle. “It’s going to be aimed toward everyday people, Tyrone locals. We’re going to try to put unique Georgia-based businesses there.”

Construction is set to begin in December 2017.

Atlanta-Filmed ‘Survivor’s Remorse’ Just Got Cancelled

Starz has decided to cancel the TV series Survivor’s Remorse. According to Deadline, the premium network is pulling the plug on the show and will end the series after the current season, which ends on October 15th. The planned season ender, titled “Answers and Questions,” now will be the series finale.

“We have been fortunate to work with incredible talents like Mike O’Malley, the executive producers and our cast on this very special show for four seasons,” Starz President and CEO Chris Albrecht said. “While this may be the end of the Calloways’ story, we do believe that the themes Survivor’s Remorse confronted over the seasons, through a unique mix of humor and sober observation, will be appreciated for the insightful, heartfelt way they were addressed. We are proud of the show.”

The show centers around the life of Cam Calloway (Jessie T. Usher), a hard-working young hoops star who is thrust into the limelight after signing a huge contract with a pro team in Atlanta. RonReaco Lee, Tichina Arnold, Erica Ash, Teyonah Parris, Robert Wu and Megan Tandy round out the cast of the show executive produced by Mike O’Malley, Tom Werner, NBA star LeBron James, Maverick Carter, Paul Wachter, Victor Levin, Hilton Smith and Ali LeRoi.

Netflix is in the early stages of developing a series based on the Shirley Jackson horror novel “The Haunting of Hill House,” Variety reports.

The series is described as a modern re-imagining of Jackson’s novel. The novel, which has been praised as one of the best horror stories of the 20th century, follows four people as they spend a summer in a rented mansion. They soon begin to experience a wide range of supernatural phenomena. It was previously adapted into a feature film in both 1963 and 1999.

Free MIT Course Teaches You to Watch Movies Like a Critic

Have you ever wanted to become a film critic? Now, you can officially learn how to become one for free.

The Film Experience is a 23-lecture course from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology that teaches you how to become a movie critic. The program is free on their OpenCourse Ware site and includes lectures, study materials and other information you need to learn how to become a movie critic. MIT has also created a list of videos, starring MIT’s Film and Media Studies program founding professor David Thorburn, into a single Youtube playlist.

Thorburn’s lectures begin with the introduction to film as a cultural form at the top of the playlist, which itself begins with the question “What is film?”

Thorburn He then goes into the history of filmmaking with silent comedies ranging from the silent comedies of Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin, to the Hollywood studio era and Alfred Hitchcock, to American film in the 1970s and Italian neorealism to François Truffaut and Akira Kurosawa.

After you have a firm grasp of film history, you will have the ability to decode the language of film and have a better ability to critique movies.

Frankie Muniz Doesn’t Remember Starring on ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Due to Severe Memory Loss

Former child actor Frankie Muniz revealed on an episode of Dancing with the Stars on Monday night that he suffers from severe memory loss.

The 31-year-old actor shared he suffered nine concussions and several “mini-strokes” and the effects have been so bad that he can’t even remember being on his hit sitcom “Malcolm in the Middle.”

“It makes me a little sad. Things pop back into my mind I should have remembered,” said Muniz, who is also a race car driver and has endured several crashes.

Muniz’s “Malcolm in the Middle” co-star Bryan Cranston told “DWTS” cameras, “I will tell him, ‘Remember this? Remember that from ‘Malcolm’?”

The sitcom ran from 2000 to 2006 and Muniz elaborated to reporters backstage with dance partner Witney Carson by his side that his memory loss “is long-term.”

“It’s something I never really talked about…It’s just my life but we were talking about ‘Malcolm’ and how it started and I don’t really have memories of being on the show. My memory of being on the show is seeing the episode[s],” he said.

Muniz said his memory loss is “a weird thing” that has happened “over the last ten years”.

“My mom was with me while I was doing ‘Malcolm’ and stuff, she’ll bring up things or trips we went on or big events that you would think I’d remember –and it’s a new story to me,” he said.

Muniz said he does not know what caused his memory loss. “I don’t know what the cause of it is. It’s not something I’ve looked into. It’s just how my brain is, so I thought that was normal. I didn’t know I should remember going to the Emmys.” 

Muniz reflected, “My whole life from when I was eight until now has been literally non-stop….maybe it’s because I had to remember so much, even lines…I didn’t really take them in.”

Surprisingly, Muniz told Fox News he hasn’t consulted any doctors about his memory problem: “I’m not a doctor person. Every time I go to the doctors, they tell me I’m just crazy,” he laughed.

Muniz’s girlfriend helps him with his memory by keeping a journal.

Muniz said, “I get sad of the thought of losing the memory because I know that I do, so she writes literally in detail, she’s a writer, a journal so I can look at any day and it does bring me back. She’s very supportive.”

The Walking Dead Star Andrew Lincoln Teases “Big Deaths” in Season 8 (VIDEO)

If you thought The Walking Dead was done with killing off actors on the hit zombie drama, then you thought wrong. It seems that we will be losing some fan-favorite actors once season 8 begins on October 22nd.

Andrew Lincoln broke the news at a SiriusXM The Walking Dead Town Hall taping on Saturday Afternoon. According to EW, Lincoln said, “There’s some big deaths this season, just to warn everybody,” said Lincoln.

The show’s showrunner Scott M. Gimple told EW that the characters are going to have “very difficult times” ahead.

“But I will say, when death came to narrative when we were making this, people were pretty shocked by it, and there are some very difficult times for the heroes ahead — though in unexpected ways. Almost, strangely unexpected even in the midst of a narrative called ‘All-Out War.’ There are some big deaths this season, but I think they’ll possibly catch people by surprise.”

How Long It Takes for a Casting Director To Contact You After an Audition

Have you ever wanted to know how long it takes for a casting director to contact you for a call back, screen test or a booking?

Recently, actors on Reddit answered this question and shared some amazing insight into the film industry and what actors should do after an audition. Here’s what they said:

1 hour to 3 years

One user explained, “Anywhere between an hour and three years. Like others here have said, as soon as you walk out of that room, you’re onto the next audition.

It drives my non actor friends crazy because they will ask me how my auditions went and I will have to sit and think for an awkwardly long time to remember enough to give them an answer.

Also always remind yourself: you cannot get into the casting director’s head. You will only drive yourself crazy. You will or will not book it for any number of infinite reasons. Just keep going.”

No set rules

Another user said, “There’s no guarantees but typically you hear back within 48 hrs IF you hear back at all. Although there are many stories of people hearing back months later – that’s rare though. Outside dates are when they are shooting the whole episode/project, and they narrow down the exact dates you would be on set later on in the process.”

Never be hopeful

Another actor commented, “The best practice is to never be hopeful. 😛 The audition was your job and you did your best and the rest is out of your control. Just forget about it and be happily surprised if you ever hear back. (Easier said than done I know.) From my few bookings: I was booked 2 business days later, and the other I was “pinned” for the role by the time I got home after the audition.”

About First Man:

Josh Singer, who earned an Oscar for his Spotlight screenplay, wrote First Man based on James Hansen’s biography, First Man: A Life of Neil A. Armstrong. Gosling has reportedly been tied to the project since late last year, but only inked a deal to star in the film earlier this year.

After serving as a Navy pilot in World War II, Neil Armstrong joined the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics, the precursor to NASA, as a test pilot and engineer. His first mission as an astronaut was Gemini 8 in 1962, during which he performed the first successful docking of two vehicles in space. On July 21st, 1969 he became the first person to walk on the moon as part of Apollo 11.

In addition, Sony is rebooting its Marvel productions with the upcoming Atlanta filmed Spider-Man: Homecoming and Venom are the first movies in their lineup.
