‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ Actor Nearly Quit Acting Before Landing the Role

While she was cast as a brand new character in the upcoming Star Wars movie, Kelly Marie Tran had never seen any of the movies before landing the role. And if she had not been cast, she might be working a different career altogether.

The actor revealed to Entertainment Weekly she was considering quitting acting before joining Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

“There was absolutely a moment,” said Tran. “When I turned 25, I had been at it for some years and I was struggling to pay my bills. I was tired. I had been working [my day job] 40-plus hours a week, plus sometimes I’d have two auditions in the day and then I would write a sketch or do improv at night, or rehearse for the next auditions the next day. So, my days, I would get up at 5 a.m. and then I wouldn’t be home until 11:00 p.m. The days were like that for years.

“I remember thinking, ‘This could be my life forever.’ Like, I could just never make it. I could work this hard for the next 20 years of my life and still be struggling.”

But Tran never gave up, realizing she wanted to follow her passion. So she auditioned for the new Star Wars movie while working in an office as a day job, and eventually learned she got the part while working a shift.

“The day I found out, Rian [Johnson, director of The Last Jedi] was like, ‘Oh we want you in this movie,’ I had just left work on my lunch break to go to this meeting,” Tran said. “Afterward, he told me that I couldn’t tell anyone, so I went back to work and answered phones and answered emails, like nothing happened. It was the most bizarre experience. Inside I was like, Ugh! Crazy!”

Tran said she is still adjusting to life after Star Wars, though it’s likely to change a lot more when the film finally debuts.

“I still just sort of live my life the way that I was before,” she says. “I don’t know when I will feel that it’s different. Definitely, when I saw the action figures, I was like, ‘This is insane,’ but it still hasn’t sunk in or registered on me.”

Star Wars: The Last Jedi premieres in theaters on December 15.

Boyfriend Drove Over 100mph to Get His Girlfriend to an Audition

How fast and furious would you go in order to support your significant other’s dreams?

Like a scene straight out of a Vin Diesel Fast and Furious movie, one boyfriend push the pedal to the metal to make his girlfriend’s dreams come true.

A student drove over 100mph to get his girlfriend to an audition. According to reports,  drove 112mph to get his significant other to a casting call but now faces 40 hours of community service and is unable to drive for six months.

Kai-Wen Kelvin Chan, 20, of Christchurch, Australia, was convicted in the Timaru District Court on Tuesday for driving at a dangerous speed.

According to the police report, Chan was driving on November 11, when he was clocked by police at 112 mph. When he was stopped, Chan said he had been driving his girlfriend to an audition in Christchurch.

His attorney, Natali Wham, said Chan was a Malaysian student studying engineering at the University of Canterbury. She said Chan had been in Queenstown with his girlfriend and accepted his driving was a “stupid” idea.

“He was glad he was caught rather than having an accident.”

Chan had checked the long straight stretch of road before driving at that speed, Wham said.

That said, Chan had one previous conviction for careless driving.

Judge Joanna Maze told Chan it “didn’t matter that the road was straight and there was nobody else but the police officer in view”.

“You could have lost control of the vehicle, for any range of possible reasons.

“Not any of us is immune from making mistakes.”

Camera Operator Dies Filming Stunt On a BBC/Netflix Drama

0

Veteran film and TV camera operator, Mark Wilsome, has reportedly died while filming a stunt on BBC/Netflix drama The Forgiving Earth.

According to Deadline, the incident occurred over the weekend but, the details of what transpired are not fully known. According to Sarah Price, Milsome’s agent, he was shooting a stunt sequence for the show.

“We have very little information at present — the production company have confirmed that an investigation is underway. It occurred on a night shoot during a stunt sequence,” Price told Deadline.com

Milsome’s TV credits include Sherlock, Call The Midwife, 24: Live Another Day, Game Of Thrones and The Durrells. He had also worked in various capacities on such films as Saving Private Ryan, Finding Neverland, The Constant Gardener, The History Boys, Quantum Of Solace, My Week With Marilyn and The Theory Of Everything.

The Forgiving Earth, previously known as Black Earth Rising, is described as a thriller about the prosecution of international war crimes and the personal, legal and political turmoil it creates. Hugo Black is the writer and director of the show. The show is set to premiere on BBC Two in the UK and Netflix holding global rights outside of the UK.

The BBC issued a statement today saying, “We are deeply shocked and saddened to hear this terrible news. Mark Milsome was hugely talented and a much respected colleague. Our thoughts are with Mark’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.”

The Guild of British Camera Technicians also released a statement: “The GBCT Board and its membership are absolutely devastated by this tragic news. Mark Milsome was not only an incredibly talented camera operator, he was also one of the kindest and sweetest of human beings. He will be greatly missed. Thoughts and prayers are with Mark’s family at this awful time.”

Milsome’s agent Prince added, “We; his family, friends and colleagues are devastated by this loss. He was the most gentle and generous man. Giving of his time, talent and loyalty. A rare, universally admired and genuinely loved member of the film industry family. He will be so sorely missed.”

Jessica Chastain Absolutely Bashes Hollywood Sexist Auditions (VIDEO)

Hollywood’s casting couch culture is notoriously sexist. Celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence and Emmy Rossum have already spoken out about it before. And in a new sketch  Friday’s Tonight Show, Jessica Chastain took another dig at the famously toxic process.

In the skit, CHastain shows up at an audition to read for the role of “Angela”. The part seems straightforward until the casting director starts asking her to  “do it again, but hot” and, in a truly cringeworthy moment, to read her lines like a “spicy little peppermint with a secret.” (Of course, when a male actor comes in to audition, he receives no notes.)

It’s a surprisingly incisive moment for the fun-and-games Tonight Show. Let’s hope there’s more of the same to come.

‘The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus Reveals What It Was Like to Film That Huge Fight Scene

0

Before The Walking Dead season 8 started, Norman Reedus revealed that Daryl was going to go rogue this season. But, little did we know that meant fist-fight with Rick.

The fight centered around Daryl’z zero tolerance and zero survivors attitude, which started after he was tortured last season by Megan at the Sanctuary. First he took down Morales without remorse, and then he killed a Savior that Rick had promised safety to in exchange for information.

Recently, EW talked to Reedus about the big fight with Rick in the show.

Apparently, Rick and Darryl didn’t hold back when the two started fighting on set. Reedus explained, “My first thought was that Andy’s going to try to do some rewrites, throw in 12 karate kicks to my throat — you know, stuff like that. But yeah, they’re always fun. I mean, Andy and I both are big believers in trying to do all of our own stunts, so, you know, the Advil was flowing for days.”

Reedus added what it was like to film that particular scene.

We did all the stunts on that, he and I. They were fun. There’s a bit of rolling around and stuff that was added sort of last minute, us rolling back and forth. I think a lot of it didn’t make the cut because we both looked like we were kind of doing gymnastics on the floor. Andy got a little sucker punch into the jaw there, which he’ll never admit, but I’m saying it. He did it, but that happens.

The show’s really physical sometimes, and to be honest, we both like doing the physical stuff. So it’s great. Whenever Andy and I work together, it’s a lot of fun, so I knew it would be fun, but there’s a lot of choreography and explosions, and, we had to be very careful about doing certain things. It was a lot of time to beat the crap out of him. It was awesome.

Reedus also revealed how he approaches acting on set of the show. “When we get together, we really are like little kids. We like to talk about it. We like to get into it. We have all these ideas. He’s giving me notes. I’m giving him notes, much to the chagrin of the directors sometimes, because they’re like, “What are you guys talking about?” We’re like, “Nothing, nothing. Just watch.”

As to what comes next on the show? Reedus says Daryl will continue to go “Rogue.

“There are some bigger rogue moments coming, to be honest, and it’s funny because we joke around. Andy’s like, “You know what? That would’ve worked if it wasn’t for you.” And I’m like, “Well, you know what? If you would’ve come up with a better plan, that would’ve worked!””

‘Spider-Man’ Spinoff About a Living Vampire is Coming Soon

Sony’s cinematic universe is getting even bigger.

The studio is developing a Morbius movie, a feature film centered around a Spider-Man antihero, Morbius the living vampire.

The team who worked on the recent Power Rangers movie, Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama wrote the script. Morbius was created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane and first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #101, the first issue not written by Spider-Man co-creator Stan Lee.

Morbius is Dr. Michael Morris, a scientist who suffered from a rare blood disease and attempted to cure himself of disastrous results. He instead became afflicted with the condition that was a form of vampirism. In the comic books, he develops a thirst for blood, along with fangs and super strength — and fought Spider-Man. Over time, however, he became a slightly heroic figure in his right.

Sony has been developing its list of Marvel-licensed characters that are mostly based on the heroes and villains that are connected to Spider-Man. The studio is hesitating as to whether or not these new movies will be connected to Sony’s Tom Holland movies or connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe that is being produced by Marvel Studios.
