HBO Max‘s Project Greenlight is Now Casting Women Directors
HBO Max, HBO’s new streaming service, is now accepting submissions for Project Greenlight.
Project Greenlight is HBO Max’s privileged program to discover up-and-coming directors who are women. HBO is searching for talented female filmmakers with distinctive voices and unique points of view.
Creator and star of Insecure, Issa Rae, has teamed up with Alfred Street Industries and Miramax to bring Project Greenlight to HBOMax.
HBOMax and Executive Producer, Issa Rae, are teaming up to find talented, aspiring, and undiscovered women directors for the revival of the popular show Project Greenlight! One chosen director will have the opportunity to be mentored by Issa and other Hollywood A-listers as they make a studio film, from pre-production to post. The entire journey will be documented in a new series on HBOMax and the feature film is intended to be released in 2023!

About Lakeyah:
Lakeyah Curtis was raised in Oakland, California, and began singing at a very young age. Lakeyah was inspired by the music of her mother, who sang gospel songs to Lakeyah as a child. Her grandmother also listened to gospel music, and Lakeyah grew up listening to artists such as Aretha Franklin and Celine Dion. Her mother encouraged her to sing by sending Lakeyah to music school. Lakeyah studied opera and possesses a background in classical music. Lakeyah began writing songs as a child, mostly about love.
Lakeyahs love for R&B music inspired her musical endeavors. Lakeyah sang at local churches and performed with different choirs until she was old enough to write her own music. She began writing poetry as a child and wrote about everything from her fears for the future to heartbreak. She attended Grambling State University, where Lakeyah majored in English Literature and minored in women’s studies. She then went on to attend Howard Law School before dropping out to focus on her music career. Lakeyah cites singers like Lauryn Hill and Andre 3000 as Lakeyah’s inspiration in the music business. Lakeyah worked in San Francisco, California to gain experience in music before moving to Los Angeles, California with Lakeyah’s manager, Shad Star.
Lakeyahs first single was titled “Slow Dance” and Lakeyah released Lakeyahs debut album, “Everyday Things”, in 2015. Her second single, “Slow Dance II”, was also well-received and Lakeyah performed on stage with Lakeyah’s label mate, Niatia “Lil Mama” Kirkland at the Lakeyahs release party. Lakeyah’s music video for Lakeyahs second single was shot in her hometown of Oakland, California and she stated that she wanted to showcase where she came from through this music video. Deadline describes the movie’s plot as follows, “Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd is a Texan who travels from town to town to read the news to locals who would otherwise not know what is going on in the world. While Kidd is sparked up by spreading the word of the passage of the 15th Amendment that gave voting rights to all men, he agrees to escort a 10-year-old white girl to her aunt and uncle in San Antonio after she was rescued from the Kiowa Indian tribe that kidnapped her and killed her family four years earlier. After premiering at Sundance, Shia LaBeouf’s latest project “Honey Boy” is praised by critics across Hollywood. That said, LaBeouf said his parents found the semi-autobiographical movie “tough to watch”.
In an interview with “The Hollywood Reporter”, the actor revealed that his mother and father had seen the movie. “It was tough for them to watch it, yeah, but I think, also, they can have distance with it as well,” he explained. “I mean they really, more than they care about this movie shit, they care about their kid, you know? So they’re happy with my reaction to it, and they know that I wouldn’t have shared it with them unless I was proud of it.”
The 33-year-old actor wrote the movie as part of his rehabilitation program and is titled after his childhood nickname.
