How do you make money in commercial modeling?

Modeling agencies make millions of dollars off modeling, but the individual model makes the most. Modeling is an industry that’s only growing larger and commercial modeling comes with higher pay.

Models are available for everything from catalogs to magazine work. Commercial modeling encompasses everything other than runway and fashion magazine editorials. There’s a lot of additional work available for those who specialize in this area, so working as a freelancer or with an agent is simple. The latter is preferable; nevertheless, many models use Project Casting to locate commercial work and networks.

How much money should you expect from different types of commercial modeling jobs? 

Magazine, newspaper, and print ads:

Commercial models can earn $125–$175 per hour, with a two-hour minimum for all jobs, regardless of experience. Commercial models may make as much as $25-$75 per hour in smaller towns and rural areas.

Half-day vs. full-day bookings:

Usually, if a model is booked for four hours, they will gross $550 or $1,500 for a full day (eight hours).

Pharmaceutical and health-care modeling jobs:

Pharmaceutical and health-care modeling jobs tend to pay higher than traditional modeling jobs. Health-care modeling jobs pay between $10,000 to $20,000 per session. A bonus is paid if the model’s likeness and the image are used for over a year.

Editorials for commercial models

Editorial commercial models get compensated between $150 to $200 per photoshoot. These modeling jobs are the gigs where you see models in magazines, news articles, and stock photography.

Can you negotiate a bonus as a model?

Companies usually pay a bonus if they are asked not to work for a competitor for an extended period. Models can also receive a buyout bonus. It is not unusual for a model to receive a compensation of $3,000–$10,000 for up to three years of usage in addition to the session fee.

How much money can you make as a fashion model?

The primary function of a fashion model is to promote expensive designer clothing. If you are interested in becoming a fashion model, you need the required height, weight, size, and look the client wants. In addition, you must live in an area where fashion model bookings run high (such as big cities) and have the skill set required to walk the runway.

Runway Shows: A new model may not be compensated at all for its performance on the runway. It’s possible to earn between $200 and $1,000, or instead of money, you may keep some of your wardrobes from the program.

That said, experienced runway models could potentially earn $500–$2,500 per show. On the other hand, supermodels may make up to $20,000 for a runway presentation.

Editorial Fashion Modeling: Fashion editorial images usually show models wearing high-end apparel.These run in publications such as Vogue. Some models volunteer their time to create their portfolios and get in touch with excellent fashion photographers in the process. As a model gains more experience, models can earn around $100 per hour.

It is not uncommon for beginner fashion models based in the United States to be sent to Europe and Asia to get experience doing editorial work. Sometimes, models stay abroad for up to three months, attending go-sees, runway shows, and other networking events in the hopes of booking editorial work for international publications. Models could earn $2,500–$7,000 after expenses. Models with experience can make between $10,000 and $25,000 per modeling gig while working abroad.

Making a living as a commercial model can be very difficult nowadays. Clients are moving towards influencers instead of models to promote their designs. In addition, some editorial fashion magazines are choosing celebrities instead of models.

What You Need to Know About These Different Modeling Categories

There are 16 different modeling categories that you can choose to model for. Many models focus on just one type, but some try to branch out and do as many as possible.

You’ve got your commercial print models, who work at large retail chains and clothing stores. You also have your runway models, who strut their stuff at Fashion Weeks worldwide. And, of course, you have your celebrity models featured on television and in movies and magazines.

But those aren’t the only modeling categories out there. There are also advertising print, catalog, commercial print/rotational, glamour/swimwear, hosiery/sportswear/denim, life models, Petites, promotional/trade show, runway/fitness, under five feet tall, and seniors.

So what category should you model in? Start by finding out which one you like the best. Do you like doing print ads for major companies or walking down the catwalk at Fashion Week? Maybe you’d prefer to work with a photographer doing a promotional, trade show, or catalog-style modeling.

Once you’ve chosen the category that piques your interest, then it’s time to start searching for a reputable agency to represent you. Make sure their roster matches your selected type and that they have a reasonable success rate placing models in those jobs. Finally, don’t forget to have fun!

Stock Photography Modeling

Stock photography is an excellent way to make money as a model, especially new to the industry. To get started, you’ll need to build up your portfolio, which will require several different types of pictures. For example, you may want photos that feature your face, bare shoulders down, with facial expressions that show energy and emotion. You should also have pictures that include your whole body, as well as images of you from the neck down. You may also want to take photos of you wearing costumes and other clothes like lingerie, swimsuits, etc.

Some of these are photo shoots you can do on your own, for which you will be shot from various angles and in different poses. If you do not have much experience yet as a model, this is a great way to build up your portfolio quickly.

Plus-Size Modeling

Working as a plus-size model, or a size 14 and up, can be very rewarding. In this job, you will get to travel to different locations worldwide for photoshoots, fashion shows, etc. Plus, size modeling can also allow you to meet fascinating people and work with brands that typically hire only models who fit a specific size.

On the other hand, there are a lot of challenges that come with working in plus-size modeling. You have to be prepared to work for free a lot of the time while you build up your portfolio because potential clients will not pay you unless they like your look on camera.

Commercial Print Modeling

As a commercial print model, your job is to work with clients who want to advertise their products in magazines, catalogs, etc. You will be modeling clothing for catalogs, clothing on store mannequins, working on advertisements for certain brands of products, etc.

You are not just limited to print ads, though. You can also work as a commercial print model for promotional events. For example, beverage companies may hire you to promote their drinks at nightclubs and bars during happy hour or other pre-arranged events.

Sometimes, a commercial print modeling job may require that you travel to another city or country. For example, a company may be interested in hiring models from outside of their normal area for a fashion show to advertise their brand and new products.

International Modeling Opportunities

As an international model, your responsibilities may include trying out for certain fashion shows and sponsorship opportunities. This is a very competitive category of modeling, so you have to be prepared to work hard to succeed.

You may also need to work with an agent specializing in international modeling. It can be advantageous because you will always have someone to help guide you through the process–and taking care of business matters like booking flights, hotel rooms, and other arrangements is your agent’s responsibility.

The jobs available for international models vary depending on where you are from. For example, if you are from the United States but live in Peru for work reasons, your agent may help you find jobs that will benefit both parties. However, if you live in the US but want to travel to Australia for modeling opportunities, you should also have an agent who has contacts locally.

Lingerie + Swimwear Modeling

As a model, you will often find that some of your work involves swimwear and lingerie modeling. You should also consider this option if you want to work as a commercial print model and feel like you cannot fit into sample sizes because these jobs typically require that models be smaller than a size 4.

It would be best if you were prepared to work primarily in front of the camera because your primary responsibility is to look good on film or in photos. You will typically be required to try on different kinds of swimwear and lingerie, walk up and down the runway at fashion shows, etc.

Fashion Modeling

As a fashion model, you will have a pretty diverse job description. In addition to working with clients for commercial print modeling, you may also have to try on clothing before it sells at a department store.

You may need to walk in catwalks or pose for photos during fashion shows. You can even get involved with runway show reviews and photoshoots with celebrities if you are lucky! Fashion models also need to be prepared to travel sometimes because their jobs will require them to go from city to city for different events.

Freelance Modeling

As a freelance model, you may find that modeling gigs are a little more sporadic than other types of modeling opportunities. However, this category is also the most unique and creative alternative because your main responsibility is to create your client list through networking and referrals.

You can also advertise yourself on freelance websites or even work with an agency specializing in this modeling category! You will have the opportunity to gain experience working with different clients, so you may not always get paid for specific jobs depending on what your job entails.

Runway Modeling

As a runway model, your responsibilities will be very similar to a fashion model–except for the fact that you will have a little more creative input. You may also need to work with an agent or agency specializing in runway modeling because the jobs available are very competitive. You have to take care of business matters like bookings, etc.

Child Modeling

As a child model, you can work with clients from commercial print modeling and try out for some runway opportunities. You will have the chance to create your client list if you choose to pursue work as a freelance model but may also need to connect with an agent or agency if you want more professional representation.

How to Submit Your Script to Production Companies and Agents

Learn how to submit your script to production companies and literary agents

Your scripts can be submitted to production companies and literary agents in various ways. Scripts must follow all submission guidelines for each company you want to submit. Script submissions can be mailed or hand-delivered, and there are various online services that you also may use (for a fee) if desired.

Mailing Script Submissions

If you choose to mail your script submissions, send them via a reputable courier which provides a tracking number. Script submissions should be sent in a 9″ x 12″ flat manila envelope with the sender’s return address printed on it.

Production companies and literary agencies will not open unsolicited scripts with a proper return address. Without First Class postage stamp on the envelope, script submissions sent via US mail will be immediately returned to you. Include a cover letter with your contact information and a synopsis of your screenplay, including treatment if it’s a television project.

If you mail your script submission on standard paper, follow Script Format Guide exactly with all margins set at 1″ and page numbers on the right-hand side of each page, no headers or footers used. Scripts submitted on standard paper will be returned unopened if they do not follow Script Format Guide.

If you’re planning to mail your script submission in a manila envelope rather than using email (which is preferable), including all the information requested in Script Format Guide precisely as Script Format Guide invites it. Script submissions on standard paper will be sent back (unopened) if Script Format Guide isn’t followed exactly.

Reading Script Submissions Scripts submitted to production companies and literary agencies must not contain any watermarks on the front of the script’s first page, such as security markings or ‘not for distribution,’ Script Format Guide explains. Script submissions not conforming to standard formatting will be returned unopened.

Producers read a multitude of scripts. As Script Format Guide points out, reading scripts takes time and effort – it’s investment producers have to make if they want their project brought in for development. Scripts submitted directly to individual production companies and literary agencies must be Script Format Guide-compliant to stand a chance of being read.

Production companies and literary agents make no guarantees how long it will take for them to review your script. Scripts that fail to follow Script Format Guide are unlikely to be read.

Script Format Guide

If submitting a manuscript format script to a production company or literary agency, you need to follow Script Format Guide (see below) exactly.

Per Script Format Guide, the title page of your script should include:

– Script title

– Script writer’s name and contact information

– Type of project (feature, TV episode/series, half-hour sitcom, short film)

– Script release date (is the project in development, released, or in pre-production)

– Script running time (for screenplays and teleplays)

– Submission release date (indicate whether the script is available for consideration at any point during a set period – such as ‘when received by June 1 st, 2016’ – or only during a specific timeframe – such as ‘only between January 1 st and March 31 st, 2016’)

– Script genre (for example: action/adventure, comedy, science fiction/fantasy/horror, period piece, crime drama)

– Script logline (A brief one-sentence description of the story that is intriguing and concise – the more creative, the better it will be.)

– Script synopsis (This should include: a description of your story’s beginning, middle, and ending; main characters by name and description only – including gender and age range; conflict or problem facing protagonist(s) – what happens to make your story move forward; and, finally, the resolution or end of your story)

– Script contact information (including name, address, telephone number(s), fax number, or email address).

Script Format Guide also recommends labeling your script with your last name first. Scripts should be printed double-sided on white paper in black ink.

A simple brad or three-hole punch should bind scripts. Never staple your script. Script submissions not conforming to standard formatting will be returned unopened.

Build a screenplay submissions contact list

When looking for a manager, make a detailed list of the individuals or organizations you believe your script would be ideal for and want to go after.

You can learn the names of producers and managers on Project Casting who work with similar material to yours to contact them later.

You’ll be able to add real and viable contacts to your screenplay submission list if you get along well with these individuals.

Prepare your pitch

You don’t want to spam everyone on your list at once when you have a script ready to send out and a list of potential managers and producers who might be interested in reading it. Every few days, send out about twenty queries and vary up the email query from time to time according to the responses you receive.

Consider the email to be an elevator pitch—you’ve got a few seconds to win someone over and that’s it. Make sure your pitch letter is written in your screenplay’s distinctive voice and tone. This will help yours stand out among the thousands of script submissions already flooding in.

Consider sending your pitch as a PDF attachment to protect your script from being hacked or stolen.

Be sure to include the title, genre, and logline as the subject of your email, as well as all necessary information for contacting you, including name, address, email address, and telephone number(s). Set up separate folders for each company and label those folders appropriately.

You must live in Oregon, Washington, or Colorado to apply. Talent age 5+ must be fully vaccinated (unless you have a medical/religious exemption) to be hired. 

No professional acting/modeling experience is needed to apply, dance skills are the most important factor. You should feel comfortable on camera and be good at taking direction.

Having both will significantly increase your odds at landing not only free gigs but paid ones as well.

And it all begins with your portfolio. A great way to start is by creating a website and blog where you can upload your images–and even ask for client feedback. What does a showrunner do? This is a question that may be on the minds of many entertainment industry professionals. A showrunner is a critical and unique position in television. They are responsible for overseeing all aspects of a TV series and managing the creative team. It is a challenging job, but it can also be gratifying. If you are interested in becoming a showrunner, or if you want to know more about what this role entails, then read on.

What is a Showrunner?

A Showrunner is a person who is responsible for creating, writing, and overseeing all aspects of a TV Show. Showrunners are often experienced writers in the industry who had worked on several previous shows before they got their performance, or else they pick a concept and sell it to television studios. Showrunners work many hours throughout the week, having late nights and working weekends. Still, the Showrunner works closely with the cast and crew of a TV Show, helping create an environment that stays positive while producing episodes. They are significant to the success of any television series because they are responsible for what airs weekly on television screens worldwide. They need to communicate well with the cast and crew of any television show they are working on because when Showrunners need help, everyone has to work together to finish the TV Show’s next episode. They have usually experienced writers with many ideas that can be used for current or future shows. Showrunners must always be confident when presenting ideas to ensure they get what is needed to make the show successful. Showrunners can either be in charge of a single television show, or they may sometimes work as Showrunner on multiple shows at once.

Showrunners are hired by studios and production companies and usually work with the staff writers and producers, gathering ideas for stories and effects used in future episodes. Showrunners need to know the characters in a show and how each character would react in any given situation. They begin planning a Show’s season by breaking down the overall plot points throughout the series, from beginning to end. They also have to make sure their show fits into the larger picture of what other television shows are airing at the time. Showrunners work closely with writers to create scripts and ideas for upcoming episodes. Showrunners make sure that everyone involved in their performance puts out the best quality of work while still maintaining a positive relationship with everyone working on the show.

Showrunners are responsible for every aspect of their show’s production, from hiring crew members, writing scripts, and approving ideas. Showrunners have a video conference with writers every week to discuss ideas for episodes in the series and what direction they want the show to go in.

Showrunners meet with studio executives weekly to pitch upcoming episode ideas and work out any problems that may come up during production. Showrunners are also responsible for casting their show and must be involved with the show’s budget, storyboards, and casting decisions. Showrunners make sure that their performance is always on schedule by communicating with everyone working on it, and they delegate jobs to other people on the set of a Show. Showrunners may sometimes have to change their show’s episodes to correct problems or add extra scenes that can be added to improve a Show’s overall quality. Showrunners have to understand storytelling and character development well because they must always know their show’s direction and how it will end. Showrunners usually write the show’s series finale, which ties everything together for any viewers who want to watch from beginning to end. They are in charge of their show’s production from beginning to end, and all Showrunners need a proven track record in television. Showrunners work continually with the entire cast and crew of any show they manage throughout the production run. They play an integral part in maintaining a show’s positive atmosphere while helping everyone involved create better episodes each time.

Showrunners became well known in the late 1970s and early 80s when Glen Larson and Stephen J. Cannell began managing several shows at once, which were all successful television series. Showrunners have to keep track of every show they are running and organize everything happening within their performance so that both Show viewers and studio executives are satisfied with Showrunner’s Show.

What is BET’s First Wives Club about?

The First Wives Club is getting a TV adaptation. According to reports, BET+ will stream the new series.

The First Wives Club is based on the 1996 buddy comedy starring Diane Keaton, Goldie Hawn, and Bette Midler. The movie will be remade into a TV series for the streaming platform.

The TV series will center around a group of female friends as they deal with the aftermath of their divorces and seek revenge against the men who hurt them. The movie and TV show are based on the 1992 bestselling novel of the same name written y Olivia Goldsmith.

The original movie centered on Annie (Diane Keaton), Brenda (Bette Midler), and Elise (Goldie Hawn), three divorcées and friends from college who want to get revenge on their ex-husbands after they leave them for younger women. The 2019 series will feature a more diverse cast. Hazel (Jill Scott) finds herself caught up in a massive cheating scandal, and her best friends from college—Bree (Michelle Buteau) and Ari (Ryan Michelle Bathe), whose marriages also ended in divorce rush to her side. 

Who is in the cast of BET’s First Wives Club?

The TV series stars comedian Michelle Bureau, actress and singer Jill Scott, and This Is Us star Ryan Michelle Bathe, with Mark Mark Tallman, RonReaco Lee, and Malik Yoba as the male leads/ex-husbands. The movie’s original cast included Diane Keaton, Bette Midler, and Goldie Hawn, with Stephen Collins, Victor Garber, and Dan Hedaya as their ex-husbands. Meanwhile, Sarah Jessica Parker, Marcia Gay Harden, and Elizabeth Berkley played the young women in the mens’ lives.

The show was first announced in 2016 as a possible pilot for TV Land starring Alyson Hannigan and Megan Hilty before moving to Paramount Network, where Girls Trip co-writer Tracy Oliver took over the show as the show’s show runner, executive producer and writer. Oliver made history as the first Black female screenwriter of a film that made over $100 million. She told Entertainment Weekly, “At the core of this one, it was just all about women and women finding their voice and their place. That’s something that’s timeless and something we could definitely use in 2019.”

Olivier is pushing for diversity in production and in the writers’ room. First Wives Club has a writers’ room comprised of a gay Black man, two white women, and three Black women. She told Marie Claire, “I wanted fresh voices, new ideas, and people to speak up because that’s something I experienced a lot in writers’ rooms—being shut down and spoken over by men, things that led to a negative work environment,” she said. “I wanted my writers’ room to be a safe space.”

When asked by Chastain how she chooses her roles, Watson reveals she bases it more on instinct than anything else. She says:

People sometimes talk about me as being a brand, having a strategy and whatever else. I wish. Seriously. I wish I had it together enough to have a strategy. But it’s so instinctual. It usually comes down to two things: the person I’m working with—the director is really important to me—and a line in a script. There’s usually one line that I read and I’m like, “Okay. I have to say this line. I have to tell this story.” It’s an instant click. And if there isn’t that line, even if the story is great, I’m always a bit meh. Whenever I’ve gone against my instincts, it’s been a bit of a disaster. If there’s a script I’m considering, I will get everyone to read it. I will get my mom to read it, I will get my friends to read it, I’ll get the person doing my manicure to read it. [laughs] I’m someone who really needs to talk things through. And then, obviously, I have a wonderful manager and agents, and I listen very carefully to what they have to say as well. But it’s a bit of a free-for-all. I would honestly get my cat’s opinion if I could. Anyway, if it’s something I need to say, I say it. If it’s something I feel genuinely connected to, then I’ll do it. But I generally feel uncomfortable being the topic of conversation and try to steer away from that.

According to reports, John M. Chu, the director of the box office hit movie Crazy Rich Asians and In The Heights, is directing the upcoming feature film. Stephen Daldry left the Project, which has been in the works for over a decade.

Wicked is a prequel to The Wizard of Oz and centers around what happened before Dorothy dropped down in Oz. Before COVID and theater closures, Wicked had been one of the longest-running shows on Broadway.

Netflix has put a casting call looking for two new characters to feature in season for, which are referred to as a “trans power couple.”

  • Abbi (age 18-23) – Abbi is a young trans woman with a 90s Winona Ryder vibe who is confident and self-assured in her gender identity. Abbi is the leader of her group and the queen bee of her college – every girl either wants to be like her or be friends with her. She’s sunny, magnetic, generous, and loyal. When Abbi came out as a trans woman, she was kicked out of the house by her conservative parents. She currently lives with her boyfriend, Kent, whose family is much more accepting. Abbi used to be religious but had to move away from her faith when it started to damage her sense of self. She still considers herself ‘spiritual and attends a secular and inclusive congregation that celebrates community and chosen family.
  • Kent (age 18-23) is trans-masculine, goofy, forgetful, and a great listener. He is Abbi’s boyfriend, and they’re the ultimate power couple – they’ve been together for a while and are the epitome of ‘couple goals’; everyone loves them.
