‘Midnight Rider’ Expected to Film in Los Angeles Following Sarah Jones’ Death

0

Filming may no longer be suspended for the movie “Midnight Rider”.

Filming was previously on hold following the fatal February 20 train accident in Savannah, Georgia that killed camera assistant Sarah Jones on the set of Midnight Rider. But, according to Deadline, the director and producer Randall Miller has decided to move forward with the production as early as June.

A source close to Miller confirms that discussions are underway on proceeding with the Gregg Allman biopic, but not in the Savannah-Atlanta region where the Jones death occurred. According to sources with knowledge of the plans, Miller wants to instead resume filming in the Los Angeles area where he and his Unclaimed Freight banner are based. According to one source with knowledge of the production, Allman, who is the executive producer on Midnight Rider, has to sign off on it too but it’s not clear if he has yet. A rep for Allman did not return calls seeking comment. It appears that Miller and Unclaimed Freight believe they have a legal right to move forward to complete the film.

Filming will most likely be leaving Savannah in order to film in the Los Angeles area. Maybe it was the bad publicity?

Sarah Jones died when a train collided with equipment on railroad tracks in the rural town of Doctortown, Georgia. The crew of Midnight Rider was set up for filming on a train trestle overlooking the Altamah River. The film’s producers were trying to rally crew to continue filming in the days immediately after the accident. But, it was not until six days after Jones’ death that production was officially suspended. No criminal charges have been filed and it is uncertain what will happen.

Layoffs Follow After Box Office Disaster ‘Sabotage’

0

The production company behind Arnold Schwarzenegger’s last feature film “Sabotage” has laid off employees following the horrible opening of the big budget production.

QED International has laid off five employs including support staff and a junior lawyer three weeks after the disastrous opening of Sabotage, according to Deadline.

Sabotage, directed by David Ayer and featured the action star Arnold Schwarzenegger failed to capture the attention in the box-office.

But, QED International is not done as they are preparing to release several other big budget productions in the next few months.

Thee bloody pic flopped and is hanging on by its fingernails in the Box office Top 20 — it’s No. 18 in its third weekend — having grossed a mere $10M. John Hegeman, president of worldwide marketing, is still on board as he helps prepare the debut of the next Ayer-directed film, Fury, which has some star power in Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf and audience favorite Michael Pena. QED slapped down $1M to buy the WWII spec from Ayer over a year ago; it will bow in November. One insider said that QED is reallocating resources for development spending. To that point, today QED purchasedYellowstone Falls, a 52-page spec script by Dan Kunka, winning what was said to be a heated bidding war. The film, which will be produced by Kevin Misher and QED President Bill Block, is about a mother wolf who must battle to save her cubs after being separated from her mate following an apocalyptic event [Deadline].

That is tough that five people were let go from the production.

David Fincher Drops Out of the Steve Jobs Bio-Pic

0

Critically acclaimed director David Fincher has reportedly dropped out of the Steve Jobs biopic that he was supposed to direct, after failed negotiations.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony failed to meet his demands for salary and control of the production. It is reported that Fincher wanted $10 million dollars in up front costs, as well as control over marketing. Something Sony was not interested in doing.

Sony Pictures is looking to replace David Fincher as director of its highly anticipated Steve Jobs movie due to his aggressive demands for compensation and control, according to several sources.

Fincher is said to be seeking a hefty $10 million up front in fees, as well as control over marketing, in negotiations with the studio. Sony allowed him considerable input into the marketing of the 2011 film The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, including honoring his request to use the tagline “The Feel Bad Movie of Christmas” in its campaign. A source says Fincher also had the studio create metal, razor-blade-shaped one-sheet materials for the film that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to produce but were not suitable for display in theaters..

A source with ties to the studio says Fincher potentially could re-enter negotiations but that the fee he is seeking is “ridiculous,” adding, “You’re not doing Transformers here. You’re not doing Captain America. This is quality — it’s not screaming commerciality. He should be rewarded in success but not up front.” [TheHollywoodReporter]

David Fincher has directed and produced some of the biggest films in Hollywood including Fight Club, Se7en, and The Social Network. It will be interesting to see who Sony plans to fill his shoes.

“It could happen,” Gervais told the U.K.’s Radio Times.

James Cameron: ‘Avatar’ Sequel Scripts Will Be Ready Next Month

0

Recently, James Cameron hosted an AMA on Reddit and he gave some big details on the upcoming Avatar sequels.

It was previously announced that Cameron was going to film all three sequels all at once and that both Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana were set up to return. Cameron also announced that he plans on using underwater motion-capture.

“We have kept a team of digital artists on from ‘Avatar’ in order to test how we can create performance capture underwater,” he said.

“We could simulate water [in computer graphics], but we can’t simulate the actor’s experience, so we are going to capture performance in a tank.”

But, what was not previously known was Cameron expects to complete the script for the Avatar series in six weeks.

Here is what he said in his recent Reddit AMA:

The second, third and fourth films all go into production simultaneously.

They’re essentially all in preproduction now, because we are designing creatures, settings, and characters that span all three films. And we should be finished with all three scripts within the next, I would say, six weeks.

The biggest pressure I feel right now is cutting out things I love to get the film down to a length that is affordable. There hasn’t been a problem finding new and wonderful things to include in the movie.

This seems like Avatar is going to be a major production with new filmmaking technology, acting, and creatures.

The Purple Wedding: George R.R. Martin Reacts to HBO’s Latest Episode of “Game of Thrones”

0

The last five minutes of last night’s Game of Thrones was shocking and amazing.

If you haven’t seen that scene, or have no idea what I’m talking about, then take a few hours out of your day to catch up.

After such a crazy scene, you would wonder what the writer behind the series had to say. George R.R. Martin spoke with Entertainment Weekly recently to let the world know his thoughts behind writing the “purple wedding” and how HBO showed the wedding. [SPOILER ALERT]

Per Entertainment Weekly:

In some ways, Joffrey’s death is the toughest death for viewers because he’s such an entertaining character to lose. You really had such fun with that character and Jack Gleeson’s performance is so malevolent. Can you talk about the decision you made to end this character when you did and how you did?

Martin: Oh boy, it was so long ago! Lets see, the book came out in 2000, so I guess I wrote those scenes in like 1998. I knew all along when and how Joffrey was going to die, and on what occasion. I’d been building up to it for three years through the first books. Part of it was that there’s a lot of darkness in the books. I’ve been pretty outspoken in my desire to write a story where decisions have consequences and no one is safe. But I didn’t want it to be unrelentingly bleak—I don’t think everyone would read the books if everything was just darkness and despair and people being horribly tortured and mutilated and dying. Every once in a while you have to give the good guys a victory — where the guys who are perhaps a lighter shade of grey have a victory over the guys who are a darker shade of grey. The Red Wedding and this — fans call this the Purple Wedding — occur in the same book. In the TV show, it’s separate seasons. But Joffrey’s death was in some ways a counterweight for readers to the death of Robb and Catelyn. It shows that yes, nobody is safe—sometimes the good guys win, sometimes the bad guys win. Nobody is safe and that we are playing for keeps. I also tried to provide a certain moment of pathos with the death. I mean, Joffrey, as monstrous as he is — and certainly he’s just as monstrous in the books as he is in the TV show, and Jack has brought some incredible acting chops to the role that somehow makes him even more loathsome than he is on the page — but Joffrey in the books is still a 13-year-old kid. And there’s kind of a moment there where he knows that he’s dying and he can’t get a breath and he’s kind of looking at Tyrion and at his mother and at the other people in the hall with just terror and appeal in his eyes—you know, “Help me mommy, I’m dying.” And in that moment, I think even Tyrion sees a 13-year-old boy dying before him. So I didn’t want it to be entirely, “Hey-ho, the witch is dead.” I wanted the impact of the death to still strike home on to perhaps more complex feelings on the part of the audience, not necessarily just cheering. (Via)

Watching the scene you see King Joffrey patronize his uncle and you wonder, how much longer will this Joffrey character stay around.

At the same time, in the moments leading up to that, you seem to really enjoy giving him this grand sendoff by having all these moments during his wedding where he demonstrates the character traits that make us so dislike him. The wedding is self-aggrandizing — he throws his money around, he chops up Tyrion’s present, he orders that offensive dwarf joust. He gets to display all of the reasons why we want him to die just before he dies.

Martin: Yeah. I think Joffrey is a classic 13-year-old bully. Do you know many 13-year-old kids you’d like to give absolute power to? There’s a cruelty in children, especially children of a certain age, that you see in junior high and middle school. We don’t want 13-year-old bullies to be put to death. We probably do when we’re their 13-year-old victims, but they grow up and most of them grow out of it, and sometimes people do regret their actions. But Joffrey will never get that chance, so we don’t know what he would have become. Probably nothing good, but still…(Via)

It is interesting to see how often George R.R. Martin kills characters during weddings. Does he have a hatred for people that are getting married?

For me, one of the most brilliant things you did is that you kill off these major characters at a wedding, and then you kill off another major character a few chapters later — at another wedding! I never would have predicted that, precisely because of how much you like to vary things.

Martin: I don’t know how it comes across in the show, because I haven’t actually seen it yet, but the poison that is used to kill Joffrey is one that I introduce earlier in the books and its symptoms are similar to choking. So a feast is the perfect time to use this thing. I think the intent of the murderer is not to have this become another Red Wedding—the Red Wedding was very clearly murder and butchery. I think the idea with Joffrey’s death was to make it look like an accident — someone’s out celebrating, they haven’t invented the Heimlich maneuver, so when someone gets food caught in his throat, it’s very serious. I based it a little on the death of Eustace, the son of King Stephen of England. Stephen had usurped the crown from his cousin, the empress Maude, and they fought a long civil war and the anarchy and the war would be passed down to second generation, because Maude had a son and Henry and Stephen had a son. But Eustace choked to death at a feast. People are still debating a thousand of years later: Did he choke to death or was he poisoned? Because by removing Eustace, it brought about a peace that ended the English civil war. Eustace’s death was accepted [as accidental], and I think that’s what the murderers here were hoping for — the whole realm will see Joffrey choke to death on a piece of pie or something. But what they didn’t count on, was Cersei’s immediate assumption that this was murder. Cersei wasn’t fooled by this for a second. She doesn’t believe that it was an accidental death. You saw the scene filmed, does it come across as he could possibly be just choking or is it very clear he’s been poisoned? (Via)

More of Martin’s thoughts on the show over at Entertainment Weeky.

The death of King Joffrey is giving to leave me with a huge hole in the Game of Thrones series. Joffrey was an entertaining character. Who will replace his evil attitude and personality?

Pierce Brosnan Says His James Bond Acting Performance “Was Never Good Enough”

0

Looking back at his four movies as 007, Pierce Brosnan says that watching himself as James Bond  is a “horrible feeling”.

Pierce Brosnan seems like he is a tough personal critic. In a recent interview with Britain’s The Telegraph, the actor says that he does not have a desire to watch himself as James Bond, saying his performance was “never good enough.”

Brosnan portray James Bond in four films including  007 –Goldeneye (1995), Tomorrow Never Dies(1997), The World is Not Enough (1999) and Die Another Day (2002).

“I felt I was caught in a time warp between Roger [Moore] and Sean [Connery].

“It was a very hard one to grasp the meaning of, for me. The violence was never real; the brute force of the man was never palpable. It was quite tame, and the characterization didn’t have a follow-through of reality — it was surface. But then that might have had to do with my own insecurities in playing him as well.”

The Telegraph asked if he ever rewatches his Bond films, and he commented that “I have no desire to watch myself as James Bond. Because it’s just never good enough — it’s a horrible feeling.”

Brosnan next big feature film mis along side Emma Thompson in a romantic comedy, The Love Punch, where they play a happily divorced couple trying to recover retirement money that was stolen from them.

Brosnan next appears opposite Emma Thompson in romantic comedy heist film, The Love Punch, playing a happily divorced couple trying to recover retirement money that was stolen from them.

Speaking of that role, Brosnan said, “It was enormous fun. No acting required. Just show up and have a good time.”
