NBC has recently confirmed that the critically acclaimed television series, will be entering into their final season.

There is no expected replacement for the show yet, but it is going to bad a sad goodbye to a series that so many people fell in love with over the years.

Parks and Recreation features Amy Poehler as Leslie Knope, a perky, mid-level bureaucrat in the parks department of Pawnee, a fictional town in Indiana.

Parks and Recreation has received several awards and nominations, including a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series, four Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe win for Poehler’s performance, and a nomination for the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy. In Time‘s 2012 year-end lists issue, Parks and Recreation was named the number one television series.

CBS Cancels ‘The Crazy Ones’, ‘Hostages’, ‘Friends with Better Lives’, ‘Bad Teacher’ and ‘Intelligence’

0

CBS has dropped the cancellation axe on 5 freshman shows that were added just last year.

After picking up five new drama series and two new comedy series yesterday, CBS has canceled 5 shows including The Crazy Ones which featured the return of Robin Williams, Hostages, Friends with Better Lives, Bad Teacher and Intelligence.

The only three shows to make it into the second season are The Millers, Mom, and The Mentalist.

The demise of Intelligence and the long-forgotten Hostages was fully expected as neither made a mark in the Monday 10 PM time slot though there was some argument made about procedural IntelligenceFriends With Better Lives, which had been envisioned as a potential successor toHow I Met Your Mother and launched behind the series finale of the long-running CBS comedy, had a shot at a renewal and had supporters at CBS. I hear producer 20th TV may shop it elsewhere. For Bad Teacher, the cancellation comes only three episodes into its run. The comedy, based on the hit movie, exceeded ratings expectations in its debut but dropped off in Episodes 2 and 3. Still, some thought CBS would wait until after the upfronts to make a decision on its future to give it more time [Deadline].

A lot of these shows faced poor ratings despite a big and popular cast. The series The Crazy Ones, featured legendary comic Robin Williams and was thought to be a big hit for the CBS Network last year. However, audiences could not connect with the series and CBS decided to choose a new show rather than stick with a mediocre one.

Quentin Tarantino Drops the Lawsuit Against Gawker

0

Back in January, Quentin Tarantino filed a lawsuit against Gawker Media over the leak of his upcoming feature film, Hateful Eight.

The lawsuit was later dismissed in mid-April, while the judge left room for Tarantino to refile his law suit with additional evidence. Last week, Tarantino would later refile the lawsuit. However, according to reports, Quentin Tarantino, the director of action thrillers such as ‘Pulp Fiction’ and ‘Django’ has dropped the lawsuit with Gawker.

Now, a week later and before Gawker made any response, Tarantino has withdrawn the lawsuit without prejudice, meaning he can re-file at a later time if he chooses.

And in fact, Tarantino’s dismissal motion hints but hardly guarantees a sequel. It says, “This dismissal is made without prejudice, whereby Plaintiff may later advance an action and refile a complaint after further investigations to ascertain and plead the identities of additional infringers resulting from Gawker Media’s contributory copyright infringement, by its promotion, aiding and abetting and materially contributing to the dissemination to third-parties of unauthorized copies of Plaintiff’s copyrighted work.” [HollywoodReporter]

The original lawsuit was over alleged “contributory infringement” whereby, Gawker helped in the copyright infringement of Tarantino’s movie “Hateful Eight”. The judge threw out the initial lawsuit stating that there was no evidence of direct infringement to support the claim that Gawker actually contributed to it.

The refiling of the lawsuit then claimed that Gawker had committed direct infringement by downloading the leaked script to their computer and additional contributory infringement by directing readers to a website where they can read the script.

It looks as though Tarantino had a lot to prove in order to win this lawsuit and has decided it was not worth the time nor the effort.

TMZ Sued for Harassment, Wrongful Termination and Sexual Discrimination

0

TMZ is getting sued for Sexual Discrimination and Wrongful Termination by a Female Writer.

Catherine Hillin claims that the executive producer Evan Rosenblum told her “Don’t be a girl” and “You’re f-ing s-t”, according to The Wrap.

Hillin was a writer for TMZ and according to reports, filed a lawsuit Friday against the company for sexual discrimination, harassment, retaliation and wrongful termination. The suit claimed that Catherine “Taryn” Hillin, show as employed by TMZ as a producer for a year and a half was the only female writer on the celebrity news website’s staff.

Hillin alleges that she was quickly advised that TMZ was a “boys club” favoring male employees over female employees, with one employee telling her, “Good luck being a girl writer.” The suit goes on to cite specific examples of discriminatory comments by executive producer Evan Rosenblum, including, “Don’t be a girl” and “Never cry in front of me.” Hillin further claims that Rosenblum humiliated her by screaming at her in front of coworkers, and belittling her with comments like, “You’re f—ing s–t,” and “I f—ing hate this s–t you hand in.” [The Wrap]

The lawsuit goes on to say that Hillin was never allowed the opportunity to rewrite her work and was forced to have her male co-workers re-write her work for her. On top of that, she was never given any positive feedback for her writing while her male counterparts were repeatedly praised.

The lawsuit also alleges that Rosenblum gave male writers more favorable assignments than the female writers. Hillin also claims she was denied promotions, while less-qualified individuals were promoted ahead of her.

Hillin claims that she was terminated after complaining on multiple occasions about Rosenblum’s discriminative behavior and the hostile work environment. She alleges that she was terminated based on her gender and as retaliation, and that the reason she was given was mere pretext. The suit further states that Hillin’s replacement was a male lacking her education, experience and/or qualifications.

Hillin filed suit against TMZ Productions, Inc., EHM Productions Inc., and Warner Bros. Entertainment and will be seeking damages, legal fees, and if necessary a trial by jury for her case.

ABC Renews ‘Nashville’ for a Third Season After Tax Credit Issues

0

ABC has decided to renew ‘Nashville’ after a long and hard battle over budget and tax incentives.

ABC has renewed country music drama Nashville, for a 22 episode third season.

The Nashville series is a huge series with big actors including Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere. The show has developed a following and a growing audience. But, everything wasn’t all cowboys and banjos. Recently, ABC was going to pull the plug on the show but decided to decrease the budget. This left the producers and studios to fill a large gap in production costs. In order to help fill that gap, producers discussed with Tennessessee’s film and television commission about a larger tax incentive.

Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development had previously said of the show, “You’re not only getting the 20-plus episodes per season, every advertisement and preview for the TV show is essentially advertising Nashville.” Tennessee committed $12.5 million to Nashville for the 2013-14 fiscal year in a package created outside the normal incentive program — a cost weighed against the estimated $40 million in economic impact the show was generating for the state. Needless to say, Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development filled the shows of the budgetary gap for the television series.

Zach Efron’s “Neighbors” Beats The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in the Box Office

0

Universal Pictures’ Neighbors has topped The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in the box office.

Neighbors will take the number one spot this weekend as the Spiderman slid down 59% in its second weekend.

Neighbors which received a B according to CinemaScore, will make Over $46 million dollars in its opening weekend.

With the decrease in ticket purchases for the new Spiderman movie it begs the question, how is Marvel going to keep audiences entertained when movie sales do not last past opening weekend?

The Legends of Oz: Dorothy Returns failed to capture audiences as it only placed 8th in the box office.

CBS Announces Six New Shows to their Line-Up including NCIS: New Orleans

0

CBS has recently announced the order for several new television series comedies and dramas.

These new dramas include a new NCIS: New Orleans, Madam Secretary, Stalker, and Scorpion. CBS also picked up several comedies including Matthew Perry’s The Odd Couple reboot, and The McCarthys.

The new NCIS: New Orleans series centers on NCIS New Orleans office, which handles cases from Pensacola through Mississippi and Louisiana to the Texas panhandle. The new series features Scott Bakula, Paige Turco, Lucas Black, CCH Pounder, and Zoe McLellan.

The next new drama includes Madam Secretary. The show explores the personal and professional life of a maverick female Secretary of State as she drives international diplomacy, wrangles office politics and balances a complex family life.

Stalker is a new and scary series that follows a pair of detectives who handle stalking incidents for the Threat Management Unit of the LAPD. The new series features Dylan McDermott, Maggie Q, Mariana Klaveno, and Victor Rasuk.

In Scorpion, an eccentric genius and his international network of super-geniuses form the last line of defense against the complex threats of the modern age.

The two new comedies added to CBS include The McCarthy’s–a big Irish Catholic, sports-crazed Boston clan and the gay son whose greatest sin is not his sexuality but his desire to spend less time with his family, and The Odd Couple— a reboot of the classic series about the messy Oscar Madison and the neat-freak Felix Unger, who are roommates.

There were several television series that did not survive past the pilot episode, according to Deadline.

As for the the pilots that did make cut, there are no big surprises. The Tea Leoni-starring DC drama Madam Secretary, from Barbara Hall, had been an early frontrunner, with NCIS: New Orleans starring Scott Bakula, the scary Stalker and action-driven Scorpion all solid contenders. The Odd Couple was the only fully owned CBS comedy pilot that is based on a big CBS property and toplined by a big TV star, Perry. Originally a dark horse, The McCarthys had been slowly but steadily picking up momentum.
