SAG-AFTRA Enforces Strict Rules: No Weapons, Alcohol, or Drugs on Picket Lines

SAG-AFTRA urges members to follow picketing guidelines for safe and legal strike actions.

To ensure a secure and peaceful picketing experience during their ongoing strike, SAG-AFTRA has issued guidelines for its members, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a non-violent and professional approach. To achieve their objectives, the guild has explicitly discouraged the use of weapons, intoxication, or engaging in confrontations. By adhering to these guidelines, members can demonstrate their dedication to the cause while upholding the principles of solidarity and lawful protest.

SAG-AFTRA recognizes the significance of this historic strike in advancing the interests of the entertainment industry. Picketing is a crucial tactic employed to compel studios to negotiate a fair deal. However, the guild emphasizes that strikes are lawful actions, and it is essential to abide by labor laws and policies throughout this support effort.

The picketing guidelines set forth by the guild include the following key points:

Non-violence and Conflict Avoidance:

  • Members must refrain from engaging in violence, threats, or intimidating behavior.
  • Confrontations should be avoided, and a peaceful environment should be maintained.

Prohibition of Weapons:

  • Members are strictly prohibited from carrying weapons or objects that could be perceived as potential weapons, such as sticks, toy guns, or laser pointers.

Professional Conduct:

  • Derogatory language, profanity, and attempts to intimidate others are strictly prohibited.
  • Avoid disrupting traffic, such as requesting drop-offs or pick-ups on curbs.

Sobriety:

  • Alcohol and intoxicating substances should not be used at the picketing site.
  • Participation while under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicating substances is strictly prohibited.

Respect for Public Spaces:

  • Facilities’ ingress and egress should not be blocked, and sidewalks should remain clear.
  • Mindful consideration should be given to pedestrians, vehicles, public transportation stops, and intersections.
  • Property damage and littering are strictly prohibited.

Media Interaction:

  • Members must refrain from speaking to the press on behalf of SAG-AFTRA.
  • Any inquiries from the police or managers should be directed to picket captains or designated leadership.
  • Caution should be exercised when responding to questions, as seemingly innocent queries may be designed to provoke a violation of labor law.

Online Presence:

  • Members should assume they are being recorded at all times and exercise caution regarding their social media posts.

Compliance with Laws:

  • All parking and traffic regulations, as well as other laws, must be followed.

Coordination with SAG-AFTRA Staff:

  • All signs and materials used for picketing must be approved by SAG-AFTRA staff.
  • Signs should be returned to the check-in table before leaving the picket line.

Enjoyment and Unity:

  • Members are encouraged to have fun during the strike by engaging in activities such as moving, walking, dancing with their signs, and starting chants or songs.
  • While the strike is of utmost importance, it is also an opportunity for members to unite and create an enjoyable atmosphere.

Producers Guild Backs SAG-AFTRA and WGA Strike: ‘United in Solidarity

Producers Guild Expresses Solidarity with SAG-AFTRA and WGA in Historic Strike.

In a powerful statement released today, the Producers Guild of America (PGA) declared its unwavering support for the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) and the Writers Guild of America (WGA) in their joint strike. According to the PGA, the members of both unions have made a remarkable sacrifice in their quest for significant change within the entertainment industry.

The PGA stands firmly with SAG-AFTRA as its members courageously strike against the studios, companies, and streaming platforms represented by the AMPTP. As the second major union to take this bold step, our industry is at a crucial juncture. The statement conveyed that the united efforts of SAG-AFTRA and the ongoing writers’ strike symbolize an extraordinary commitment from actors and writers aimed at driving meaningful transformation in our field.

Recognizing the importance of fair compensation and essential benefits, including access to healthcare, the PGA believes these concerns are fundamental rights for every individual working in the industry. As a result, the PGA’s statement concluded that we stand in unwavering solidarity with our esteemed colleagues.

The PGA’s expression of support for SAG-AFTRA’s decision to join forces with the writers in their strike follows similar declarations from the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), the Teamsters, the Directors Guild of America (DGA), and the WGA.

In a separate statement, DGA President Lesli Linka Glatter expressed deep disappointment in the AMPTP’s failure to address SAG-AFTRA’s concerns fairly and reasonably during negotiations. Glatter also proudly affirmed the DGA’s support for actors and writers in their struggle.

The strike, unofficially in effect since Wednesday midnight after failed contract negotiations between the guild and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, was officially ratified by the SAG-AFTRA national board on Thursday morning. Guild President Fran Drescher and Chief Negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland passionately articulated their reasons for the strike during an intense press conference in Los Angeles at noon.

At 12:01 a.m. on Friday, the SAG-AFTRA strike will officially commence, marking Hollywood’s first double strike since 1960.

Halloween Horror Nights is Back with ‘Stranger Things’ Haunted House

Halloween Horror Nights Returns to the Upside Down With ‘Stranger Things Season 4 House.

Halloween Horror Nights is taking Stranger Things fans back into the Upside Down for the 2023 season.

The house marks the return of the Netflix series to the annual Halloween event at Universal Studios parks in around four years, with this year’s home inspired by the fourth season of the Duffer Brothers series. Parkgoers will be transported again to Hawkins, Indiana, where they’ll meet with supernatural villain Vecna amid his effort to obliterate the barrier between the Upside Down and the real world.

In the house, guests, Eleven, Max, Eddie, and more characters from the show will emerge on the front line of Vecna’s deadly attacks. While moving through iconic scenes like the Hawkins Lab, the Creel House, and Vecna’s chilling, blood-red mind lair, guests will confront familiar and terrifying creatures like demo bats and Vecna himself as they race against the clock not only to escape but save humanity from his deadly curse.

This marks the third time in HHN’s history that Stranger Things has been the basis for one of the houses and mazes. The Orlando and Hollywood parks hosted one inspired by the show’s first season in 2018 and 2019, followed by another pulling from plot elements in seasons two and three. Notably, the second house picked up where the first had left off scene-wise, meaning attendees might get a brief sequence referencing season three at the start of the 2023 house.

“From the opening shots of Stranger Things 4, episode one, we knew this was meant to be an experience at Halloween Horror Nights,” said John Murdy, executive producer of Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood.

“We’re excited for our fans to live Vecna’s curse as we recreate the iconic and terrifying moments from the show,” added Lora Sauls, assistant director of creative development and show direction at Universal Orlando Resort.

The Stranger Things house is the latest IP-based attraction announced in this year’s bi-coastal event. Last month, a Last of Us house was announced for HHN based on the Naughty Dog and Playstation game. HBO’s live-action adaptation, which stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, received 24 Emmy nominations on Wednesday.

Halloween Horror Nights 2023 begins Sept. 1 at Universal Orlando Resort and Sept. 7 at Universal Studios Hollywood.

Paul Dano on How He Created His Character in Steven Spielberg’s ‘The Fabelmans’

Paul Dano Reveals the Process of Creating His Character in Steven Spielberg’s ‘The Fabelmans.’

In the highly anticipated film, ‘The Fabelmans,’ acclaimed actor Paul Dano takes on the role of Arnold, a character inspired by Steven Spielberg’s father, who played a pivotal role in shaping Spielberg’s career as a storyteller. Dano recently sat down with Vanity Fair to discuss his initial conversation with Spielberg regarding the position and how he immersed himself in character for this critically acclaimed movie.

During their first Zoom meeting, Spielberg revealed the film’s premise to Dano, who was immediately struck by a deep sense of connection. Dano explains, “As soon as he told me what it was about him, I thought, ‘Ah, this sounds right.’ I’m not an actor who thinks they should play every part or even wants to play every part, but this one resonated with me.”

To prepare for his role in ‘The Fabelmans,’ Dano extensively explored Spielberg’s personal life. He had the invaluable opportunity to tap into Spielberg’s insights and gain access to the family’s archives, including eight-millimeter footage and photographs. Dano’s portrayal was not intended to be a mere imitation but rather an embodiment of Arnold’s essence through his character, Burt. He emphasizes, “Mimicry or imitation was not interesting to anyone on this project. It was more about capturing the essence of Arnold and bringing that through Burt. It’s different. And then there’s Paul somewhere in there, whether we like it or not. There’s a reason you’re asked to be there, no matter how different from yourself you want to be or how transformative. There’s some part of your unconscious that’s coming along.”

Armed with an extensive understanding of Arnold’s life, Dano contemplated portraying a character inspired by the father of the film’s director. He describes his approach: “I just tried to build the character for being an engineer. One of the first things I did was draw a stick figure and think, ‘Okay, how do I get to this? What part of Arnold’s past is going to help bring me there? And where is his center of energy?’ Steven didn’t want me to gain weight, but Arnold’s energy center felt very different than mine. Mine is a little higher, and he was a little lower, so how do I move? Things like that. I followed the engineering mindset, but then a big part of the work is very emotional or spiritual or whatever you want.

Paul Dano’s meticulous research and thoughtful approach to his character in ‘The Fabelmans’ demonstrate his dedication to portraying Arnold with authenticity and depth. As audiences eagerly await the release of this highly anticipated film, it’s clear that Dano’s performance will be a highlight, capturing the essence of the man who played such a significant role in shaping Spielberg’s artistic journey.

Ford, renowned for his iconic film roles, including Han Solo and Indiana Jones, acknowledged that actors should not delve into discussing their craft. He humorously called it the “first rule of Acting Club.” However, he expressed his thoughts on the subject, highlighting his enduring enthusiasm for storytelling and transforming words into behavior.

Ford admitted he didn’t learn anything groundbreaking when asked if his participation in a television comedy series provided new insights. However, he emphasized the importance of being present in the creative process, embracing spontaneity, and striving for authenticity. Ford believes that actual growth in acting comes from being in the room where it happens, responding to the circumstances, and finding genuine moments of truth.

Reflecting on his early acting experiences, Ford acknowledged his initial shyness and overwhelming fear when stepping onto the stage. Recalling his trembling knees, visible even from the back of the theater, Ford attributed the anxiety to his unfamiliarity with the territory rather than social pressure. He described how he overcame his fear, eventually finding joy in being onstage and collaborating with fellow artists to weave captivating stories.

Despite acting less frequently than in the past, Ford continues to pursue acting because he feels it allows him to contribute something meaningful. He believes it is the domain where he can utilize his expertise and create compelling narratives. Comparing it to his past skills as a carpenter, which have faded over time, and acknowledging his lack of musical talent, Ford expressed comfort in his ability to translate words on a page into meaningful behavior. He remains passionate about the prospect of storytelling and views it as a service occupation, recognizing the intrinsic human desire to share narratives throughout history.

Ford, who has appeared in over 60 movies, acknowledged that he often embodies a particular type in his roles. However, he relishes the opportunity to deviate from his established persona whenever possible. While exploring different characters may not always result in commercial success, Ford finds personal fulfillment in such endeavors. He reminisced about his desire to wear beards or mustaches in his films, recounting a humorous exchange with former Warner Bros. chairman Bob Daly, who insisted on showcasing Ford’s face. Eventually, Ford successfully negotiated a bearded appearance for his character in “The Fugitive.”

In conclusion, Harrison Ford’s enduring passion for acting and storytelling shines through in his candid interview. Despite his reserved nature, he provided a glimpse into his thoughts on the craft, his personal growth, and his unwavering excitement for the art of creating and sharing stories.

Matt Damon ‘Fell Into a Depression’ While Filming a Movie

0

During a recent interview on “Jake’s Takes,” actor Matt Damon shared a personal experience of struggling with depression while filming a movie that didn’t turn out as he had hoped. Although he didn’t mention the specific film, Damon expressed the emotional toll it took on him, especially considering his commitment and sacrifices for the project.

“Sometimes, without naming any particular movies, you find yourself in a situation where you realize the movie might not live up to your expectations, yet you’re still involved in its production,” Damon revealed. He further explained, “I remember reaching the midpoint of filming, realizing there were still several months ahead, and feeling depressed about the situation and questioning my choices.”

Damon credited his wife for helping him through this challenging period. Reflecting on her support, he said, “She reminded me that we were in this together and should make the most of our time here. I take pride in being a professional actor; part of that is giving everything you have, even when you know the outcome might not be what you desire. She truly helped me maintain a positive attitude.”

While Damon didn’t disclose the specific movie that caused his depression, he has previously been open about working on films that turned out differently from what he expected. One example is the 2016 film “The Great Wall,” directed by Zhang Yimou, which received negative reviews and faced controversy due to its white savior narrative. Damon portrayed a European mercenary who joins forces with imperial Chinese soldiers to combat an alien threat. Despite its $150 million budget, the film struggled to surpass $50 million at the U.S. box office.

Regarding his experience working on “The Great Wall,” Damon stated during a 2021 interview on the “WTF” podcast, “I realized this is how disasters happen. The movie didn’t come together. It didn’t work as a cohesive whole.”

Damon said, “Being a professional actor means recognizing when you’re in a less-than-ideal project and giving your all. It’s a disheartening experience.

In his upcoming film, Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer,” Damon takes on the role of Leslie Groves, the director of the Manhattan Project. The highly anticipated atomic bomb epic is set to hit theaters on July 21, distributed by Universal Pictures.

Tom Holland Opens Up About Alcohol Addiction and ‘Really Struggling’ as He Became Sober: ‘Why Am I Enslaved to This Drink?’

Tom Holland Shares Candid Details of His Journey to Sobriety: Confronting Alcohol Addiction and Overcoming Struggles.

In a recent interview on the popular “On Purpose With Jay Shetty” podcast, Tom Holland, known for his role as Spider-Man, opened up about his battle with alcohol addiction. This comes after the actor publicly announced in May that he had been sober for over a year. During the interview, Holland revealed that his realization of having an alcohol problem occurred after experiencing an excessively boozy Christmas season, which led him to attempt a dry January.

Going without alcohol for a month proved to be an eye-opener for Holland. He admitted feeling consumed by thoughts of drinking during that period, which deeply alarmed him. Reflecting on this experience, he said, “It scared me, and I began to question whether I had a deeper issue with alcohol.”

Motivated to dig deeper, Holland resolved to extend his sobriety beyond one month. He wanted to challenge himself and prove that he could live without alcohol for an extended period. However, he found navigating England’s drinking culture challenging, feeling as though he couldn’t socialize or partake in usual activities without alcohol. This further intensified his concerns about having an alcohol problem.

To alleviate his doubts, the determined actor decided to prolong his abstinence from alcohol for six months. By his birthday in June, Holland felt a significant shift had occurred within him. He had reached a point where he could confidently continue his sobriety journey, experiencing newfound happiness and inner peace.

Reaching the milestone of six months without alcohol brought profound changes to Holland’s life. He noticed improvements in various aspects of his well-being. He slept better, handled challenges more effectively, and gained mental clarity. In his own words, Holland expressed, “I felt healthier, fitter… I began questioning why I was enslaved to this drink and why I was so fixated on the idea of consuming it.”

With a year and a half of sobriety under his belt, Holland embraced his truth and openly acknowledged his addiction to alcohol. He wanted to be transparent and honest about his struggles without any reservations. His journey inspired his mother to follow suit, leading to a positive transformation in her life.

Holland concluded, “I can confidently say I was unquestionably addicted to alcohol. I’m not shying away from that fact.” The actor now revels in the remarkable changes he has experienced since embracing sobriety, emphasizing his immense joy and fulfillment.

Currently captivating audiences in the thrilling series “The Crowded Room,” available for streaming on Apple TV+, Holland continues demonstrating his talent and resilience. To gain further insight into his journey, you can listen to the entire podcast episode featuring Holland in the video provided below.

SAG-AFTRA Agrees to Mediation but Won’t Extend Contract Deadline

SAG-AFTRA Accepts Mediation, Declines Contract Deadline Extension.

SAG-AFTRA has agreed to participate in federal mediation for its contract but has clarified that it will not extend the contract deadline, which expires on Wednesday at midnight.

The limited timeframe poses a challenge for the mediator to prevent a potential strike that could commence as early as Thursday morning.

In a statement released Tuesday afternoon, the union emphasized the dwindling time and acknowledged the severely strained relationship between both parties.

While the union remains committed to reaching a deal before the deadline, it doubts the employers’ willingness to negotiate and reach an agreement.

The union stated, “The AMPTP has betrayed our trust and damaged our respect for them throughout this process. We will not be manipulated by their cynical attempt to secure an extension, considering the companies have had more than sufficient time to establish a fair deal.”

The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers proposed involving the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service to facilitate the resolution. Industry leaders such as Disney’s Dana Walden and Alan Bergman, Warner Bros. Discovery’s David Zaslav, Netflix’s Ted Sarandos, and Apple’s Zack Van Amburg supported the plan and conducted conference calls on Monday.

Prominent agents, including CAA’s Bryan Lourd and Endeavor CEO Ari Emanuel, have also been mediating progress between the two sides.

“We are here to secure an agreement that guarantees our members receive a fair wage in the expansive industry we contribute to with our work,” stated the union. “The AMPTP can achieve this at any time. They understand the needs of our members, and when they address them, we will listen. However, time is of the essence.”

A strike by SAG-AFTRA would halt scripted TV and film production conducted by AMPTP companies globally.

On Tuesday, SAG-AFTRA members who volunteered as strike captains received training from their counterparts in the Writers Guild of America while picketing.

Numerous SAG-AFTRA members at Netflix headquarters participated in marches alongside the WGA, as they have done for the past two months.

Tessa Claire Hersh, a SAG-AFTRA member, expressed her anticipation of a strike, highlighting many individuals’ awareness, interest, and motivation. She viewed the situation as an opportunity to take action urgently, explaining that the circumstances are currently unfavorable and potentially worsen.

Ryan Faja, another SAG-AFTRA member, shared similar sentiments, stating, “Everyone wants us to strike. It feels inevitable. Working in this industry and living in an expensive city is increasingly challenging. The top figures seem to desire more for themselves.”

Initially set to expire on June 30, the SAG-AFTRA contract was extended for 12 days as both parties sought to make progress. While agreements have been reached in certain areas, significant differences remain, particularly regarding artificial intelligence and streaming residuals.

SAG-AFTRA also demands substantial wage increases and additional pension and health plan funds.

On Monday, SAG-AFTRA leadership held a meeting for entertainment publicists, outlining the guidelines in the event of a strike. Actors and performers will be prohibited from attending sets and participating in interviews to promote their work.

Korean Actress Park Eun-bin to Star in Netflix K-Drama ‘Castaway Diva’

Korean Actress Park Eun-bin Set to Star in Netflix K-Drama ‘Castaway Diva.’

Park Eun-bin is teaming up with Netflix again, following her success in the popular Korean drama, Extraordinary Attorney Woo. Park has been cast as the lead in Netflix’s upcoming series ‘Castaway Diva’ (working title), scheduled to premiere in late 2023. In this series, Seo Mok-ha, an aspiring singer stranded on a deserted island, embarks on an extraordinary journey.

Netflix recently announced Park’s involvement in the series, revealing a first look at her character, Seo Mok-ha. Alongside Park, Castaway Diva features a talented ensemble cast of famous Korean actors, including Kim Hyo-Jin, Chae Jong-Hyeop, Cha Hak-Yeon, and Kim Joo-Hun. Kim Hyo-Jin takes on the role of Yoon Ran-ju, a former renowned singer and Seo Mok-ha’s idol. Yoon Ran-ju begins a new chapter after reconnecting with her fan from the deserted island. Chae Jong-hyeop portrays Kang Bo-geol, a composed and introverted variety show producer and director.

The director of Castaway Diva is Oh Chung-hwan, known for his work on Hotel Del Luna and Big Mouse. The series is penned by Park Hye-ryun, the writer behind Start-Up and While You Were Sleeping. This collaboration marks the third project between Oh Chung-hwan and Park Hye-ryun.

Following the success of Extraordinary Attorney Woo, which starred Park Eun-bin, the series achieved remarkable results on Netflix. It spent 21 weeks on the company’s Global Non-English Top 10 list last year, sharing the record with Squid Game, and reached the Top 10 in 57 countries.

SAG-AFTRA Says It Will Agree to Federal Mediation But Is Wary Of “Cynical Ploy” By Studios

SAG-AFTRA Agrees to Federal Mediation Amid Studios’ “Cynical Ploy” Concerns.

SAG-AFTRA has agreed to involve a federal mediation agency in its ongoing negotiations with studios and streamers. However, the union has decided not to extend the talks beyond July 12.

In a strongly worded statement released on Tuesday evening, SAG-AFTRA emphasized that the expiration of their agreement would keep them from negotiating in good faith to achieve a fair and just deal. While committed to the negotiating process and open to exploring all possible opportunities for an agreement, the union expressed skepticism regarding the employers’ intentions to bargain toward a resolution.

This announcement followed news of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) request for the services of the Federal Mediation & Conciliation Service, a federal agency responsible for resolving labor disputes. The request came after high-level executives, including Ted Sarandos from Netflix, David Zaslav from Warner Bros.-Discovery, and Dana Walden and Alan Bergman from Disney Entertainment, discussed the possibility of federal intervention during calls on Monday, as confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter. The request was a last-minute effort to salvage or extend the negotiations.

However, SAG-AFTRA dampened the optimistic tone earlier in the day, dismissing what the CEOs and their anonymous sources perceived as a deliberate leak to Variety before their negotiators were even informed of the mediation request. The union criticized the AMPTP for breaching their trust and undermining their respect in the negotiation process, considering it a cynical ploy to engineer an extension when the companies had ample time to reach a fair agreement.

With the expiration date of the TV/theatrical contracts approaching on Wednesday at 11:59 p.m., SAG-AFTRA possesses a strike authorization vote that could potentially lead to a strike as early as Thursday. The union reiterated this pressing deadline in its Tuesday statement, emphasizing that time is running out.

Since June 7, the two parties have been working on a new three-year contract covering approximately 160,000 union members. On June 30, the union’s TV/theatrical negotiating committee deemed the timeline extension necessary to exhaust all opportunities for a fair and just contract.

It aligns with SAG-AFTRA’s preparations for a potential strike. On Monday, top SAG-AFTRA leaders met with PR firms and agents to discuss the possible implications and guidelines for a strike. An agent on the call, SAG-AFTRA leaders, did not speak in hypothetical terms regarding the potential strike.

Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners Cuts 20 Percent of Staff

Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners Cuts 20 Percent of Staff.

According to reports, Amblin Partners, the film production company founded by Steven Spielberg, has recently undergone significant restructuring, reducing approximately 20 percent of its workforce. This strategic move comes as Amblin enters a new long-term agreement with Universal Studios. The affected employees primarily come from marketing, international operations, and post-production departments.

Under the terms of the new deal with Universal, the studio will now co-finance Amblin’s movies. In the past, Amblin would secure its financing for film projects and then enlist Universal for distribution purposes in exchange for a fee.

While Spielberg’s most recent directorial venture, The Fabelmans, earned an Oscar nomination and was released by Universal, he has yet to announce his next project in the director’s chair.

Amblin Partners currently has several projects in the pipeline. One is an adaptation of Maggie O’Farrell’s novel Hamnet, which acclaimed director Chloe Zhao will helm. Additionally, the company has acquired the rights to Rob Hart’s novel Assassins Anonymous, slated for release in 2024. Furthermore, Amblin has entered into a partnership with Netflix.

Spielberg expressed his gratitude towards the studio in a statement regarding the new collaboration with Universal, referring to it as his “ancestral studio home.” He also emphasized the importance of creative flexibility and autonomy for Amblin’s future success. Spielberg acknowledged the dedication and hard work of the entire Amblin team throughout the years. He thanked Donna Langley and the Universal team for their commitment and partnership, expressing enthusiasm for the upcoming joint endeavors.

Donna Langley, chairman, and chief content officer of NBCUniversal Studio Group, echoed Spielberg’s sentiments, expressing excitement about the continued evolution of the partnership. Langley praised Spielberg and the Amblin team as exceptional collaborators and looked forward to the next chapter in their longstanding creative legacy. The collaboration between Amblin and Universal has yielded numerous iconic films over the past fifty years, and this new chapter aims to build upon that success.

Warner Bros. Cancels ‘The Powerpuff Girls’ Live-Action Series

Warner Bros. Announces Cancellation of ‘The Powerpuff Girls’ Live-Action Series.

Warner Bros. has officially canceled the live-action series adaptation of ‘The Powerpuff Girls,’ just two months after The CW formally announced its scrapping.

The project is no longer in development, and as reported by TVLine, The CW has returned the series to the studio due to ownership and strategic changes. Along with ‘The Powerpuff Girls,’ other projects such as the proposed Arrowverse spinoff ‘Justice U,’ the Archie Comics-inspired ‘Jack Chang,’ and the female-led Zorro reboot have also been returned to their respective studios. Earlier in May 2021, it was confirmed that Chloe Bennet from ‘Agents of SHIELD’ would play Blossom, Dove Cameron, from ‘Descendants’ would portray Bubbles, and Broadway actress Yana Perrault was cast as Buttercup.

The live-action adaptation aimed to follow Bubbles, Blossom, and Buttercup as disillusioned twenty-somethings, resentful of having lost their childhood to crime-fighting. Setbacks in the studio prompted The CW to reshoot the pilot episode. Bennet’s departure from Blossom further prolonged the project’s timeline.
