Georgia-Filmed ‘Lodge 49’ Canceled After 2 Seasons

AMC has chosen not to renew its Georgia-filmed series “Lodge 49” for a third season.

The news comes only two weeks after the series second season ended on AMC. According to Deadline, the show’s creator and showrunner are planning to shop the show to outlets.

“We are so proud to have had Lodge 49 on our air,” AMC said in a statement to Deadline. “This wonderful show gave audiences fresh and unforgettable characters in a world that did not exist anywhere else on television. Thanks to the stellar cast including Wyatt Russell, Sonya Cassidy, and Brent Jennings and to our partners in this unique labor of love, Jim Gavin, Peter Ocko and Paul Giamatti for two remarkable seasons that initiated the world into The Ancient and Benevolent Order of the Lynx.”

“Lodge 49” had a major rating drop. The show’s rating was down 40% from Season 1 but, has a huge fan base with an 86 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes for Season 1 and 100% for Season 2.

The series stars Wyatt Russell and is executive produced by Paul Giamatti, Randall Einhorn, Jeff Freilich, and Peter Ocko. The series is a dark comedy about an optimistic ex-surfer, Dud, who’s cruising following the death of his father. Dud finds himself on the doorstep of a fraternal lodge that may — or may not help Dud find himself in life.

‘House of The Dragon’, Game of Thrones Prequel is Now Casting (UPDATE)

‘House of the Dragon‘, the upcoming ‘Game of Thrones‘ prequel is now casting speaking roles.

Update: August 25, 2020

According to reports, the HBO Game of Thrones prequel series House of Dragon started casting in July 2020. Now, reports surfaced casting directors are now casting a leading Targaryen role.

The Illuminerdi reports that House of the Dragon is casting for Daemon Targaryen, “the rogue prince,” also known as “Lord Flea Bottom.” Daemon was the brave brother of King Viserys I, the king whose descendants would fight over control of the Iron Throne in the civil war known in Westerosi history as “The Dance with Dragons.” Daemon’s connection with his brother is the point of George R.R. Martin’s book, The Rogue Prince. Here’s the character information uncovered in the story:

“PRINCE DAEMON TARGARYEN (Male, 40-50) – The younger brother to King Viserys, Daemon wasn’t born with “naked ambition” for the throne despite being in line for it. He’s less methodical and more impetuous. Not to mention easily bored…stumbling from one distraction to the next with the subconscious yet singular obsession with earning the love and acceptance of his brother the king. Most of Daemon’s joy is found at sword-point. But even as the most experienced warrior of his time, he vacillates between vile and heroic, making him the true rogue of the series.
- SERIES LEAD. OPTIONS ESSENTIAL *This role is currently scheduled to film between January – December 2021*”

Here’s the background on the character . Daemon is considered the most dangerous man in Westeros and is known for conquering the region as the Stepstones and declaring himself a king. He later returned to King’s Landing, turned over his crown to his brother, and worked under Viserys by remaking the capital’s city.

HBO ordered House of the Dragon to series for 10 episodes in October 2019. George R.R. Martin, Vince Gerardis, Ryan Condal, and Miguel Sapochnik are executive producers, with Condal and Sapochnik also serving as showrunners. The series will film in 2021 for release in 2022.

(Update: July 21, 2020): HBO is quickly moving forward on its ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel. The network has started casting for the highly anticipated series, according to reports.

The project is based on George R.R. Martin’s ‘Fire & Blood’, which centers around the history of House Targaryen 300 years before the ‘Game of Thrones’. Ryan Condal from ‘Colon’y is the show runner behind the show and will work alongside Miguel Sapochnik, who directed some of the biggest episodes of ‘Game of Thrones’. Sapochnik will also direct the pilot and several additional episodes.

No official casting breakdowns are publicly available. However, many are speculating the potential leads in the upcoming book. ‘Fire & Blood’ centers around 150 years and includes the rise of the Westeros. Sources tell EW the popular ‘Dance of Dragons’, from the Targaryen Civil War will be featured at some point in the show.

‘House of Dragon’ replaces HBO’s previously announced prequel series which starred Naomi Watts. The pilot was filmed and then canceled in 2019. ‘House of Dragon’ is planned fo 2022.

HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones‘ ended in 2019, but the franchise is is moving on with a prequel spinoff, ‘House of Dragon‘. The show is now in production and a casting call for the series leads has been released.

Knight Edge Media released the casting call info. Casting directors are now casting the following speaking roles:

Aegon Targaryen 20s, Caucasian Male. Married his two sisters VISENYA and RHAENYS. Withdrawn, quiet, pious. Harsh with those who defy him. Riding the dragon Balerion. LEAD
Visenya Targaryen 20s, Caucasian Female. Older sister and wife of King AEGON TARGARYEN. A voluptuous, stern, serious, and unforgiving woman. Riding the dragon Vhagar. LEAD
Rhaenys Targaryen 20s, Caucasian Female. The youngest sister of King AEGON TARGARYEN. Kindhearted, graceful, playful, curious, impulsive, and given to flights of fancy, with a mischievous aspect to her personality. Riding the dragon Meraxes. LEAD

House of the Dragon takes place 300 years before Robert’s Rebellion and as the casting call hints, it follows the story of the Targaryen kids, Aegon, Visenya and Rhaenys. The show will center on their rise to dominance.

House of the Dragon is created by George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal, with a pilot from Miguel Sapochnik. The new prequel will air on HBO with a 10-episode season and is believed to arrive in 2022.

“Game of Thrones” prequel series “House of the Dragon” is coming soon.

HBO has ordered the prequel to straight to series. HBO programming president Casey Bloys announced during WarnerMedia’s media event on Tuesday.

The new prequel is written by Ryan Condal (Colony), with George R.R. Martin set to co-executive produce. The latest Game of Thrones series is based on George R.R. Martin’s 2019 book “Fire and Blod,” and is a background history of House Targaryen (the ancestors of Daenerys) as they fight through a civil war. The 10-episode project is set 300 years before the events of “Game of Thrones.”

HBO executive Casey Bloys announced an event for HBO Max, which is AT&T’s streaming service coming May 2020. The news comes a few hours after news broke HBO canceled a previously announced Game of Thrones spinoff series.

HBO may have advanced with the “House of Dragon” series because “established history penned by Martin to serve as a backbone for the story,” according to Entertainment Weekly.

While the canceled Game of Thrones spinoff series only had some “vague references to build on.” The prequel, which shot over the summer starring Naomi Watts and showrunner Jane Goldman, was set “thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones” and would have shown “the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour.”

The Verge reports there were rumors of issues during the filming of the pilot. But, that is not uncommon. The original “Game of Thornes” had a lousy pilot, and HBO has to reshoot 90% of the episode before it aired.

The goal of “House of Dragons” is to reach “The Dance of the Dragons ultimately.” The Dance of the Dragons is a meaningful time in Seven Kingdoms history leading to a great war between House Targaryen.

Friday’s John Witherspoon Has Passed Away at 77

Actor and comedian John Witherspoon has passed away.

“It is with deepest sorrow that we can confirm our beloved husband and father, John Witherspoon, one of the hardest working men in show business, died today at his home in Sherman Oaks at the age of 77,” his family said in a statement. “He is survived by his wife Angela, and his sons JD, Alexander, and a large family. We are all in shock, please give us a minute for a moment in privacy and we will celebrate his life and his work together. John used to say ‘I’m no big deal’, but he was huge deal to us.”

Witherspoon was known for his comedic takes on father-figure character types in a wide range of TV shows and movies including 1995’s “Friday”, where he played Ice Cube’s father. He continued to reprise the role in “Next Friday” and “Friday After Next”. Witherspoon also played “Pops” Williams on the sitcom “The Wayans Bros.” and “Granddad” in “The Boondocks”.

Many of Witherspoon’s friends and cast members expressed their condolences through social media. “I’m devastated over the passing of John Witherspoon. Life won’t be as funny without him,” Ice Cube wrote on Twitter.

Marlon Wayans also expressed his thoughts on Instagram, “I’m sad. Broken. Hurt… yet extremely grateful to God that I got to spend 5 years of my life working with one of the funniest sweetest wisest humblest loving men. Thank you, God for the many many many laughs that we shared on and off the set.”

During a visit to the Power 95.3 studio in 2017, actor John Witherspoon provided an update on the project. He claimed Ice Cube was talking to Warner Bros. executives about the sequel and the studio approved another sequel. Unfortunately, production never started on the project.

From the directors of “Avengers: Endgame”, Anthony and Joe Russo are now filming their new movie “Cherry”. The movie star Tom Holland, Ciara Bravo, Bill Skarsgard, Jack Reynor, Forrest Goodluck, Jeff Wahlberg, Michael Gandolfini and Kyle Harvey. The Russo brothers will direct the movie based on Nico Walker’s New York Times bestselling novel.

“We were drawn to ‘Cherry’ given our personal experience from Cleveland, as well as the important need to share stories like these. As Cleveland natives ourselves, it means a lot to us to be able to film in our hometown. We shot the exteriors for ‘Winter Soldier’ here, we are excited to return home to our roots,” said Anthony and Joe Russo.

The movie centers around the true-life story of a former Army medic who returned from Iraq with extreme undiagnosed PTSD. He becomes addicted to opioids and begins robbing banks. He is caught in 2011 and set to be released in 2020.

“Having just moved back home to Cleveland myself, I’m so excited the Russo brothers are also coming back to film their next project,” said Evan Miller, the new president of the Greater Cleveland Film Commission. “The GCFC worked very closely with the Russo brothers and their production company AGBO to ensure this Cleveland-based story would be filmed in Cleveland. We are grateful for their continued support of our mission to create jobs and further economic development through the film/media industry.”

‘Game of Thrones’ Creators Exit Disney’s ‘Star Wars’ Trilogy

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss exit Disney’s ‘Star Wars’ project

Days after revealing the final trailer for the upcoming Star Wars spinoff series ‘The Mandalorian,’ Disney has announced the planned feature film trilogy from ‘Game of Thrones’ creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will not be happening after all. Last year, fans were surprised to hear that the duo would be leading the three-part series of films. The two creators pitched the idea to Disney’s CEO Bob Iger, and earlier this year, Disney confirmed the two would be directing the next movie in the franchise, which would arrive in 2022.

However, after a $200 million deal with Netflix earlier this year that would see the creators leaving HBO, the creators told Deadline that “there are only so many hours in the day, and we felt we could not do justice to both Star Wars and our Netflix projects.”

That said, Disney+ has a lot of productions coming soon. Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige will be directing his own Star Wars project and a planned trilogy by ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ director Rian Johnson is expected to hit theaters soon.
