Netflix is expanding their presence in New York City with expanded office space in Manhattan and six sound stages in Brooklyn, which will create up to $100 million in investments and thousands of jobs in the next five years.
The production hub will include an expanded office in Manhattan, which will directly create 127 “high-paying executive content”, marketing and production development jobs over the next five years. In addition, several sound stages in Brooklyn will have the capacity to hold thousands of production crew jobs within the next five years.
“New York has created a film-friendly environment that’s home to some of the best creative and executive talent in the world, and we’re excited to provide a place for them at Netflix with our production hub,” said Jason Hariton, Director of Worldwide Studio Operations & Real Estate at Netflix.
Netflix’s new corporate offices will be approximately 100,000 square feet in Manhattan’s Flatiron District. The office will 127 new executives for executive content acquisition, development, production, legal, publicity and marketing positions in addition to Netflix’s 32 current New York-based employees.
Netflix has lad a long history of producing projects in New York including “Orange is the New Black,” “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” “She’s Gotta Have It,” “The Irishman,” “Someone Great,” “Private Life,” and “Russian Doll.” The six sound stages will provide thousands of production jobs reportedly over the next five years. To support Netflix’s creation of a new production hub by 2024 and to compete with other cities, Empire State Development has offered up to $4 million in performance-based Excelsior Tax Credits over 10 years, which are tied to job creation. To receive the full incentive, Netflix must create 127 jobs by 2024 as its new executive production office and then retain those jobs and their existing 32 office jobs for another five years.
“Netflix is innovative, creative and bold — just like New Yorkers — and the expansion of this cutting-edge company in New York once again demonstrates the Empire State is open for business,” said Governor Andrew M. Cuomo. “We’re proud Netflix chose New York to grow its business, and we look forward to the jobs, economic activity and world-class productions this project will bring.”
“As a leading provider of streaming services in America and around the world, Netflix’s expansion in New York is a significant milestone, creating the potential for thousands of jobs,” said Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul. “The new production hub will add office space and sound stages in Brooklyn, advancing the tech and entertainment industry in the area and continuing to invest and grow the economy of the entire State of New York.”
“Thanks to Netflix, online streaming has become as commonplace as cable television, and maybe even more accessible — and their decision to expand in New York is a validation of our work to support and develop New York’s technology, entertainment and production industries,” said Empire State Development President, CEO and Commissioner Howard Zemsky.

According to reports, Tom Holland was spotted taking photos with fans between scenes of his new movie “Chaos Walking” on Monday in Atlanta, Georgia. The 22-year-old actor’s new movie centers around a dystopian future, this time taking place on a planetary colony in which the survivors live in fear of a virus known as “The Noise,” which causes visions, images, words, and sounds shared by everyone else. Arguably, it could be seen as a metaphor for social media memes.
Tom Holland plays Todd Hewitt, a boy from an all-male planetary colony. He is forced to flee his home after learning about the bizarre viral outbreak. However, his journey leads him to a surprising first encounter with a woman named Viola Eade, played by Daisy Ridley.
Chaos Walking Cast:
Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Homecoming) plays protagonist Todd Hewitt.
Daisy Ridley (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) co-stars as Viola Eade.
Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal) plays the villain, Mayor Prentiss.
Demián Bichir (Alien: Covenant) plays Ben.
Kurt Sutter (Sons of Anarchy creator) plays Cillian.
Nick Jonas is the latest actor to join the movie. He is booked to play Davy Prentiss Jr., reports THR. Davy is described as a soldier in the army of Mayor Prentiss, who is played by Mads Mikkelsen, who is apparently his son. Davy is defined by jealousy as his dad is mentoring his longtime rival Todd Hewitt (Holland), ignoring his own family.

He is known for casting favorite shows such as “Gossip Girl,” “Arrow,” and “Riverdale.” In a recent interview with EW, Rapaport explains what it’s like to work as a casting director and in the process shares some pretty insightful advice for actors looking to break into more significant roles in television and movies.
Rapaport, who is known for casting several Warner Bros. series shares what inspired him to become a casting director. He explains as a child, “I loved going to movies and watching TV and getting excited about specific actors and specific performances,” says Rapaport, 40.
After college, he worked with casting director Mali Finn as an intern working on several big movies including “The Matrix” and “Titanic.” He says, “It was a bit of a happy accident.” The three-month internship led to a five-year job, emboldening Rapaport to try his hand at becoming a casting director. He thought he’d made it big when he got a general meeting with Warner Bros. “I left that room thinking it was the best meeting I’d ever had, and I was waiting for their phone call,” Rapaport says. “They didn’t call for two years.”
When he did get the phone call it was for the 2007 pilot “Gossip Girl” and then “The O.C.” “They said, ‘We need the next Mischa Barton and the next Adam Brody,’” Rapaport recalls. “With my youthful cockiness, I said, ‘Of course!’”
David Rapaport’s casting process:
In the interview, Rapaport explains he relies on actor submissions they are trying to fill. The part he was currently casting had 800 video audition submissions for a small guest-star role, which Rapaport says will cast 20 to 25 actors. Rapaport explains, if this were a pilot, they would get even more submissions with the help of local casting directors, they would have hundreds of video auditions. The hardest part, he explains, is they have a limited time to do so. A traditional casting director will have 3 to 8 days to cast an episode and 8 to 10 weeks to cast a pilot. As Rapaport explains, they use that time to look through every single submission.
“You only have to see one person to play the role, so if I miss that one tape, I’m devastated,” he says, comparing what he does to matchmaking. In a way, he spends his days looking at professional Tinder pages, trying to find the right person for any given project. (So in more ways than one, he has mastered the “chemistry read.”) And, together with the casting departments at both The CW and Warner Bros., Rapaport works to turn a giant dating pool into a handful of appealing prospects—until ultimately the producers, studio, and network decide which actor is “the one.”
Over time, Rapaport has created a network of actors he contacts. If you’re in the business long enough, it does start to feel like a small pool,” Rapaport says. “You start to get your favorite actors that you keep bringing in.” Essentially, it is all about who you know. If there is a production that needs 20 actors, Rapaport estimates that 10 to 12 of them will be people he knows. But, he is always looking for new talent, which is why he goes through all 800 submissions.

Here is the best and easiest way to memorize lines as an actor.
Learn how techniques and tricks actors can use to memorize lines for a TV show, movie, and the theater.
Memorizing lines tricks:
Recording your lines
Reading out loud
Repetition tricks
Follow the actor’s three-step plan – Focus on the character’s wants needs and desires
Use the “memory palace” technique
Don’t memorize lines at all
Recording your lines
The easiest way to learn lines for a movie or TV show is to record all the lines and play them back and say them along with the recording. You can record with your computer, phone, or even a recorder. However, it is very important to hear the cue (the line before yours), so you know when to say your line. Play it over and over and say your lines along with the recording. Then when you know it better, pause the recording after the cue line and say try to say your line. Listen to that line and see if you memorized it right and then try again.
Another way people learn lines including reading the script and covering your lines up. Here’s how you can do it. Read the cue line and then try to say your line while it is covered up. This works even better when you are working with a partner. Another unique way to memorize your lines includes looking at the cue line and then trying to type your lines without looking at the script.
Reading out-loud
Researchers at the University of Waterloo discovered reading information aloud to yourself improves your memory.
“This study confirms that learning and memory benefit from active involvement,” said Colin M. MacLeod, a professor and chair of the Department of Psychology at Waterloo, who co-authored the study with the lead author, post-doctoral fellow Noah Forrin. “When we add an active measure or a production element to a word, that word becomes more distinct in long-term memory, and hence more memorable.”
The study tested four methods for learning written information, like a script, including reading silently, hearing someone else read, listening to a recording of oneself reading, and reading aloud in real time. Results from tests with 95 participants showed that the production effect of reading information aloud to yourself resulted in the best remembering.
“When we consider the practical applications of this research, I think of seniors who are advised to do puzzles and crosswords to help strengthen their memory. This study suggests that the idea of action or activity also improves memory. And we know that regular exercise and movement are also strong building blocks for a good memory,” said Professor MacLeod.
Repetition
Need help learning how to memorize lines fast? Recently, on Reddit, actors shared their best advice for learning how to memorize lines.
One user explained the best way to memorize lines revolves around repetition. “Repetition of lines can be helpful, sometimes just breaking it into chunks can be the best thing to do, slowly learn one line, then add another one or two. After that, try combining all 3. rinse and repeat, so on so forth until you complete the entire speech. Otherwise, if you bounce lines of friends, that can sometimes help.”
Another user commented, “I find that writing the lines down one by one and memorizing each word that way to be more helpful than verbal memorization, as I tend to picture the script in my mind sometimes when I get stuck, and being able to picture it as a paragraph in my handwriting works better. I usually end up filling 3-6 pages, back to back, adding words each time I write. I also like to challenge myself and write it in different fonts and at different speeds, so that I know I’ve got it.”
Then, there’s the Rude Goldberg technique that focuses on concentrating on why you are saying what you are saying.
“I do a “Rube Goldberg” technique that seems to work: Start with line one, and notice something in it that gives you a reason to say line two, and so on. That’s how we speak and write anyway. One thought leads to the next. I know this sounds basic, but play with the idea of what and how you notice; and use all of your senses. Think of everything in the circumstance that could lead the character to the next thought. Usually, it helps to have a trigger word in each line.”
Follow a Three Step Plan
Like the Pimsleur method of learning new languages, repeating the same words over and over and over will burn them into your brain.
Second, internalize the storyline and your character’s wants, needs, desires, etc. at any given point in the story. If you know the story and know what you want in critical places, it will aid in your memorization — and also save your ass if you drop a line.
Third – blocking helps with memorization tremendously. Linking the words you say with walking stage L, or entering, exiting, answering the phone, etc. will cement them in your memory. Associate the physical with the verbal.
The “Memory Palace” Technique
Many feature films have pages upon pages of dialogue; Not to mention five-minute monologues. Often this is extremely stressful and hard to recall all the information.
But, here are two steps to helping you remember all of the lines of dialogue.
Turn general, boring things that you would not usually remember into something that you can recall and more visual.
Find a place to store your mental images i.e., your “memory palace.“
Consider your memory palace as a mental image of your home. There’s a kitchen, bathroom, living room, and bedrooms. Each piece of information that you are trying to memorize is created into a mental image and then placed into your home. The more images, the bigger your home gets.
For instance, if you have a dialogue between you and another character. Break up parts of the script into mental images, and feelings. Then envision those mental images inside a house. As you continue through your script, continue to add mental images inside your memory palace.
When you need to recall your lines go back to your mental palace, and re-envision those mental images as parts of the memory palace; This will help you remember tons of lines, dialogue, and boring information that you would not usually be able to.
This technique can be used in more than just acting. It can help you memorize telephone numbers, names, and other information that is usually boring, or difficult to recall.
Overall: The key is to make your images the most outrageous images you can think of for your script — the more outrageous, the better.
Or…Try not memorizing lines?
A new generation of actors can no longer remember their lines, Bill Nighy said, as he criticized the “discourtesy to their fellow professionals.”
Bill Nighy has a long history in Hollywood working on some of the biggest movies including Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean and Hot Fuzz. A brief look at his IMDB page you will see probably one of the hardest working actors in the game. That said, he is not impressed by his fellow actors.
The award-winning actor said it has become cool for actors to deliberately refuse to learn their lines ahead of time, mistakenly believing it will improve their performance.
Arguing actors must refocus their attention on performing correctly. Nighy said the trend had been pushed by actors who “don’t want to do their homework.”
Asked for his advice for young actors, he said: “If you’re doing anything, whether it’s a play or a film, learn every single word that you have to say backward forwards and sideways before you go into a rehearsal room and before you go on a film set.
“That might sound like an obvious thing, but it’s not currently: there is a fashion for not knowing your lines.
“It’s been invented by people who don’t want to do their homework, even as a creative choice.
“You will not become imprisoned by intonations, and therefore it’s a discourtesy to your fellow professionals. “That’s a piece of bull—t from people who don’t do their homework.
“That’s an important thing to know. That’s as important a thing I could say.”
He added: “You can’t rehearse with a book in your hand. And you can’t go and be on the sides of a film set and not know your lines until someone turns the camera.
“There is no lightning. Nothing’s going to strike.
“Rehearsal is not the enemy of spontaneity. The idea is the process is you say the lines over and over and over and over and over again until you can give the impression that you’ve never said them before and it’s just occurred to you. That’s the gig.
“It’s entered the language in a very deep way. Professionals will advise young actors not to learn. It’s got that bad.”
Overall
Everyone memorizes differently, so it is good to try different techniques to see what works best.
But, the best thing you can do before you head on set is to do speed through with the other actors. Sit or stand together and go through the lines as quickly as possible. Have someone mark down the lines you miss and read them over and over before you go on.

Project: “Swan Song” feature film
Location: Sandusky, OH
Shoot Dates: June 17th-July 8th
Pay: $120/day + 10% agent fee
Submission Date: As soon as possible
Breakdown:
The director is looking for an authentic, typical Ohio resident feel in all of these roles.
Gertie — 80s, Female, former client of Pat’s who now suffers from Alzheimer’s in the same nursing home. Her long hair was once the most beautiful in town.
Josiah — 40s, Male, hunky farmer whose lean muscles come from years of hard work. Josiah has a polite, old-fashioned neighborly warmth.
Lyle —25-35, Male, disheveled and disengaged gas station cashier who is probably stoned right now.
Female Customer — 40s, on her way back to Sandusky, more town than country.
RoRo — 35, Female. African-American, sassy and successful hair salon owner.
Ben — 30’s, Male. Earthy, scruffy gardener who radiates Zen energy.
Rite Aid Clerk — 40-60, Female. Working class woman who hasn’t changed her curling-ironed hair since the 1970s (or is it the 80s?!).
Crusty Cab Driver — 25-50, Male or Female. Takes no shit from anyone.
Silver Haired Bear — 50-65, Male. Sexy charismatic guy from the gay bear community.
Eunice – Male, any ethnicity, 60+ years. Weathered but well-moisturized, “Eunice” is Billy Gene Taylor’s former drag name. Mister Pat’s best friend from back in the day, fabulously flamboyant Eunice refuses to grow old. On the surface, he’s a scream – but down deep Eunice feels lonely.
Dustin – 30s. Dashing, preppy, WASPy gay orphan who comes from money. Dustin grew up in small-town Sandusky but came out when he was fourteen and never looked back. Type-A personality with a thriving business in Columbus, Dustin is a demanding perfectionist just like his Grandma Rita.
Sue – 50-ish. Former one-time client of Pat’s, whose hairstyle gave Sue a rare moment of confidence. Mousy Sue is the type of person no once notices. Maternal and kind, Sue puts everyone else’s needs ahead of her own. One strong scene with lead.
Shaundell – African American, 25-45. Sandusky born and raised, registered nurse who works the day shift in a nursing home. Practical and no nonsense, Shaundell quite enjoys the little game of telling her patient Pat what to do and him not doing it.
Gabriel – 20s. Super attractive and fit small-town gay bar bartender. Gabriel appears to be the typical Millennial who is more interested in his cellphone than learning about gay history from an older generation. But, in the end, Gabriel gains an appreciation for his legendary forefather. Two strong scenes with lead.
Scottie – 35 – 40. Warm and friendly, beer drinking, Cleveland Browns-loving, typical Ohio dad next door (married to Evie). Probably voted for Trump but would give you the shirt off his back. Several nice scenes with lead.
Evie – 35. Fun-loving, loud, bawdy, beer-drinking mom next door who is always the life of the party (married to Scottie). Her husband and son are her world. That, and Bud Light. Several nice scenes with lead.
Mr. Walter Shanrock – 55-75. Old money, conservative, condescending small-town lawyer. Two key scenes with lead.
Ms. Velma – African-American, 25-45. Insecure, small-town drag queen who is gonna make it big someday. Pivotal scene with lead.
Janie – 70+. Spunky and weathered farmer’s widow. Still lives on the same land where she was born. One key bittersweet scene with lead.
Tristan – late teens-early 20s. Super fashionable gender-fluid gay kid with an attitude but the talent to back it up.
