Elizabeth Banks’ and Kristen Stewart’s reboot of the ‘Charlie’s Angels’ franchise flopped for Sony Pictures this weekend, as the third ‘Charlie’s Angeles’ movie tanked at the box office, making only $8.6 million, well below even the most modest $12 million expectations. It is important to note that the movie was made for approximately $48 million and is expected to do poorly overseas.
It is difficult to say what went wrong with ‘Charlie’s Angels.’ Current reviews show the movie at around 59% on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics enjoying Kristen Stewart’s comedic acting abilities. The previous ‘Charlie’s Angels’ movie starring Drew Barrymore made $40 million. Could it be the intellectual property is too old for today’s audiences/ Or maybe there were not enough celebrities starring in the movie? Either way, it is a major let down for Sony and for Elizabeth Banks, who directed the film and had a starring role.

Meanwhile, Georgia-filmed ‘Ford v. Ferrari’ moviemade $31 million over the weekend. The Christian Bale and Matt Damon project cost $100 million to make but, with great reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and a perfect Cinemascore, it is reasonable to believe word-of-mouth will help increase the grand box-office total in the weeks to come.
‘Midway’ landed the two-spot, beating ‘Charlie’s Angels’ by earning $8.76 million and $35 million so far. The family movie ‘Playing with Fire’ hit $8.5 million and $25 overall. ‘Last Christmas’ is not doing too well in the box office, falling 42% to $6.6 million and $22 million overall. Georgia-filmed ‘Doctor Sleep’ took the biggest hit this weekend, dropping 59% to $6.1 and $25 million overall.
At the bottom of the weekend’s box office is ‘Joker’ with $5.6 million and $322 million overall. Worldwide, the movie also passed $1 billion.
According to reports, Netflix has greenly and set a 2020 production start for the upcoming movie ‘Red Notice.’ The film is a global action heist movie and stars Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot, and Ryan Reynolds. It is is an international action thriller centered around the pursuit of the most wanted art thief in the world.
Deadline reports, ‘Red Notice’, was one of the biggest movies brokered last year. The deal includes a $20 million salary for Johnson and an eight-figure agreement for the movie’s director. As a result, Netflix now has a production budget in the $130 million range.

You usually do not see this many A-list actors in one big-budget movie. It goes against the report that suggested Netflix had internal discussions about cutting back on expensive movie projects following ‘Triple Frontier.’ Netflix is focusing on landing A-list stars for movies. For example, Ryan Murphy’s upcoming film ‘The Prom’ stars Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, James Corden, and Ariana Grande, leading up a strong cast.
Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said in a statement: “We’re incredibly proud of Triple Frontier, one of our most popular original films. Sixty-three million member households have now watched the movie since it launched in March, and we look forward to working on more projects with this talented cast, producers, and writer/director J.C. Chandor.”

Update September 13, 2020: Ryan Reynolds Shares COVID-19 Test Experience As Production Restarts on Netflix’s ‘Red Notice’
Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot are heading back to work.
After taking a COVID-19 nose swab test, the Deadpool actor tweeted he has returned to production for his upcoming Georgia-filmed production, Red Notice. The actor shared photos of him undergoing the Coronavirus COVID-19 swab test on Saturday.
“The Covid Test is quick and easy. The doctor places the swab up your nose, just deep enough to tickle your childhood memories and then it’s over,” he joked. “No matter what you say to him, he won’t buy you dinner first.”
This news comes after Netflix announced production would shut down over Coronavirus safety concerns for Red Notice, which also stars Gal Gadot and Dwayne Johnson.
Gal Gadot also shared a similar social media post confirming Red Notice production has started.She wrote she is “getting ready to head back to the Red Notice set.”

Update August 3, 2020: Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson announced his production company will resume filming the Netflix film ‘Red Notice’ in a “quarantined bubble” next month.
Johnson’s production team, Seven Bucks Production, and Netflix are working together to create a “quarantined bubble” for the filmmakers and crew, the actor revealed on Saturday in a message and video via his Instagram account.
Johnson says he is receiving advice from the NBA to create a bubble for the production team.
“They’ve been great in terms of sharing with us what has been effective with their bubble,” Johnson said. “And we are able to implement that in our bubble.”
He also acknowledged that the road back to work will be “tricky.” “There’s no blueprint here, we’re in the beta phase every step of the way,” Johnson said.
Johnson did not reveal how long people are expected to work and live in the quarantined bubble.
This news comes after Tyler Perry, successfully filmed an entire season of his BET series ‘Sistas’ in a quarantined bubble in Atlanta, Georgia. After wrapping production on his BET series “Sistas” without a COVID-19 during the two-week shoot. Now, production for “The Oval” is ramping up as the cast and crew are setting up to arrive at Tyler Perry Studios on Thursday. Tyler Perry says there is not much he plans to do differently this time around, especially when it comes to wearing masks and around the campus.
“I made sure that the cast and crew and everybody wore their masks when they weren’t on set because I do know for a fact that masks help stop the spread — scientifically, I know that,” Perry tells Variety. “And everybody adhered to that, even though we were all testing negative. I just didn’t want someone to be incubating with [COVID-19] for three to 12 days, and we not know it.”
Tyler Perry and the production crew for “Sistas” wore their masks for 12 to 14 hours at a time while shooting the 22-episode season.
“Listen, I was the mask police. Every time I saw something I was screaming about it,” Perry says. “It’s summer in Georgia so credit to the crew — it’s burning up here and they were still doing the right thing. So, I gave a lot more breaks for people to have water because we had a couple people that got dehydrated from all the heat, and the water breaks were actually the ‘breath break’ where you can pull your mask down, drink some water and get some fresh air.”

Over the weekend, CNN’s Shimon Prokupecz tweeted President Donald Trump hosted a screening of the box office hit movie ‘Joker’ on Saturday. Yahoo! News followed up on the tweet with the White House, which confirmed Trump did host a screening of Todd Phillip’s movie of the iconic Batman villain for “family, friends and some staff” on Saturday Night and yes, “the senior White House official said Trump liked the film.”

There are very few actors that are like Willem Dafoe. He is known for playing iconic characters in movies such as ‘At Eternity’s Gate,’ ‘The Florida Project,’ and ‘Spider-Man’.
He is also known for taking roles in independent projects such as ‘The Lighthouse’. Dafoe plays a lighthouse keeper alongside Robert Pattinson. In an interview with Esquire, Dafoe spoke about what he loves about performing.
Dafoe opens about “pleasure” he gets out of acting and how it feels when a role takes him into a different place. He says, “I shouldn’t make this comparison, but recently I watched Free Solo and Alex Honnold [the death-defying free-climber, subject of that documentary]talks about fun. What he’s talking about, it’s not fun, but it’s pleasure. He found a way to connect with something that he loves and something that is meaningful to him and something that gives his life purpose. That’s what I have with performing, and sometimes it goes south, sometimes it’s silly, sometimes, because of the collaborative nature of it, you can do beautiful things, you can do horrible things, but as long as you know why you’re doing them, for yourself, you’re protected.”
Dafoe said he does not mean the term “protected” as something that is harmful “…or that I think that you gotta be reckless, or dangerous.” He continues, “It’s not that. It’s really curious, and wonder, and learning stuff. If I’ve learned nothing else, it’s about the doing, it’s not the showing. That’s the most fundamental thing about performing. I abhor this expression, ‘nailing it’. There’s no such fucking thing. It’s wide open.”

Kirsten Dunst opens up about her experiences in the entertainment industry and she discusses how she approaches acting now.
Emmy Award-winning actress Kirsten Dunst has had a wild career since she started as a young child. Thirty years later she continues to find acting opportunities that showcase her range as an actress. In an interview with Vogue about her role in the Showtime series ’On Becoming a God in Central Florida’ (whose casting calls appeared on Project Casting), Dunst discusses her approach to acting and how she chooses her roles.
When asked about what draws her to characters she says, “I think it’s intuitive, and it comes down to your taste and your barometer of the stories you want to tell. Growing up in this industry, I had to learn about cinema and discover my own voice, and I think that’s the only way you have longevity in your career. There’s a sense of freedom post having a kid, too. I don’t know if other actresses have said this to you, but for me, something inside just freed up, and you don’t care. I’ll do anything or go anywhere.”
Dunst has worked as a professional working actress for forty years. But, she still gets help. She explains, “I always work with someone—an acting lady. I hate to call her a coach because she’s so much more than that.”
Dunst is already looking back and wants her credits to say, “I want to look back when I’m old and say I’m proud of the movies and television that I was a part of. For me, it’s trying to pick and choose wisely so I can keep doing this until I’m an old fart.”
