Lead Role – Okinawan Actor for Feature Film
Job Description
A union feature film is seeking Okinawan actors for a major production shooting in Vancouver, BC in August 2025. This project is dedicated to authentically portraying Okinawan heritage and identity, especially through the story’s central character, Oba. All ages and genders are welcome to submit, with a strong focus on finding a lead for the role of Oba.
Job Responsibilities

Bring depth, authenticity, and cultural nuance to the lead role of Oba, a wise and resilient Okinawan grandmother

Collaborate with the director and production team to deliver a powerful performance that honors Okinawan traditions and experiences

Participate in rehearsals, production meetings, and all scheduled filming dates in Vancouver, BC
Requirements

Okinawan heritage strongly preferred (submissions from Pacific Islander and Indigenous actors with a Ryukyuan connection also welcomed)

For the role of Oba: Female, age 78, able to convey wisdom, strength, humor, and vulnerability

Experience in film or theatre acting

Willing to travel to Vancouver for the duration of filming (all pay, travel, and per diem covered as per union agreement)

Compensation

Paid role, with all travel and per diem covered under the Master Agreement
