Part of a Georgia Tech independent study, this virtual reality short film will experiment with volumetric filmmaking/photogrammetry, 3D animation, and live-action. With exciting technology capable of unlimited possibilities, the group will endeavor into the lands that few have tackled by mastering its accurate form. It will be an intersection of technology and artistic expression!
The film follows a woman reflecting on fragmented events in her life that lead to her closest friend’s death. It is an exploration of the ways people experience memories, often reinterpreting and re-envisioning the past. Told from an unreliable narrator’s perspective, it also challenges audiences to decipher the fragmented memories and uncover the truth about what happened.
Elisa (Lead : 20-22)
Elisa is utterly confident of who she is. As a black woman, she understands the world’s perspective on her; therefore, she imagines her escape by looking at her African diaspora culture and aspiring for complete liberation.
This is why she studies filmmaking in order to express her views onto the world. She is an activist for not only her communities but for the world too. She reads Angela Davis’s words equally as she does with Toni Morrison’s thoughts.
In her style, she is subtle. As a queer woman, she doesn’t dress for others to identify her but as a form of self-expression. She is who she is on her own terms.
Ethnicity: Black / African Descent
Damian Atkin (Lead : 19-21)
The charming black boy, which literature usually recalls as the “Good Black.” Having mastered the model minority all too well, Damian has become whatever people want him to be. He is a mirror capable of reflecting back the version they want of him. Behind his tired eyes is much expectation to exceed the “world’s” demands. He is constantly wearing a mask, but whenever he feels it slipping away, a dashing smile is all he does.
Athletic, attractive, in touch with his emotions, would be just a few words to describe him. He is a very layered character, so getting his introspectiveness and delivery of thought right would be vital to winning this role.
Ethnicity: Black / African Descent, Latino / Hispanic
Little Elisa (Supporting : 6-8)
We have our 21-year-old queer black girl being Elisa, who is very confident in herself, loves movies, and is an activist. This is her younger self when she was 8 years old.
Her earlier version was filled with inquisitive curiosity! She looked at the world with a happiness and a trust. There was always confidence and extroverted energy there. Her smile can say a million words.
Ethnicity: Black / African Descent
Vendela (Supporting : 19-22)
A beautiful sorority girl. Not a model from the magazines but the girl that is perfectly flawless yet so flawed. She is all about images. Her Instagram is woke by society’s standards, and she does her duty in being educated as a white American. She understands her privilege and tries to do her part in uplifting others. However, her looks sometimes make people think she only a shallow person and not someone worth being heard. In her own popularity, dudes just want to fuck her and hear no “real” thoughts.
She is Elisa’s internet crush. Elisa feels like she truly can read this person, that she truly sees her.
Ethnicity: White / European Descent
Nathaniel (Supporting : 18-22)
A black-haired guy struggling to find his place in the world. Friends with Elisa and goes to her whenever he wants to have deep conversations with her. They contemplate their existence a lot. He is proud of his progress toward better mental health—another college friend.
Ethnicity: Ethnically Ambiguous / Multiracial, Indigenous Peoples, Latino / Hispanic, Middle Eastern, Southeast Asian / Pacific Islander
Kadeem (Supporting : 18-22)
An insecure emotional dude who is friends with Elisa from college. He is trying to better his confidence, so he relies on Elisa to affirm his actions.
Ethnicity: Black / African Descent
Julien (Supporting: 18-22)
A past romance of Elisa’s. This girl hasn’t had the best life and has been trying everything possible to end her time here. She finds a safe space with Elisa. Middle class looks.
Ethnicity: Black / African Descent
Therapist (Supporting : 29-35)
Somebody who is genuinely observant but provides snarky/honest feedback even when the patient doesn’t want to hear it. She is able to recognize past people, so she has been doing it for a while. She takes pleasure in her job.
Ethnicity: Black / African Descent, Ethnically Ambiguous / Multiracial, Latino / Hispanic
Mom (Supporting : 38-48)
This is Elisa’s mom. She thinks she knows her daughter and is enchanted by Damian. She wants them to end up together. Elisa and her mom have a good relationship, but Elisa sometimes feels like she can’t say everything that she has in her mind
Ethnicity: Black / African Descent, White / European Descent
