Associate Producer, News, PBS NewsHour (2)
Full-time, Regular
Reports to: Senior Producer, News
ABOUT THE ROLE
You’ll serve as an integral member of the News Unit, overseeing the daily production of video segments for use on-air and online. You’ll write and edit broadcast copy, objectively, and on deadline, for use in the PBS NewsHour’s daily video news summaries and select and edit incoming video images and interview clips to accompany those summaries.
YOUR FIRST 90 DAYS
You’ll get to know your team and the wider organization, and how each group functions independently as well as part of the whole. You’ll establish key relationships with your peers, while being exposed to executives through participation in editorial planning meetings. You’ll contribute to enterprising news, features, and analysis reporting on day one.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
You are regularly contributing to day-of-air and forward-planned field segments. You develop story pitches that are unique, yet relevant, and can think through the production process, identifying all required interviews and elements. You get kudos from not only your immediate team, but from others throughout the organization for your ability to connect as well as to get the job done. You’ve developed trust with executive leadership. And you have grown your own skills and can point to evidence in your improved reporting.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in journalism (preferably for a national news outlet), or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Reporting or blogging experience.
  • Ability to create and manage fresh, compelling news and feature content for the web.
  • Superior writing skills, under deadline pressure, for both short turn-around news items and longer-term feature content.
Proof of full dosage of a COVID-19 vaccination is required for all positions that will be working onsite, or may reasonably or occasionally be called to work onsite.
WHAT WE OFFER
  • Comprehensive and competitive medical, dental, and vision insurance plans
  • Generous 403(B) employer match
  • Holiday and paid leave programs
  • Tuition reimbursement
