Job Description
A casting team is seeking talented actors and actresses for an upcoming Off-Broadway theater reading of the stage project Negro Leather Shoes. The production is looking for performers with strong theater experience and the ability to project their voice across a live theater environment.

The reading will feature a compelling neo-folktale inspired by little-known historical events, exploring themes of intergenerational wealth, power, and privilege within an American family. Selected actors will participate in a live script reading and collaborate with the creative team to bring the characters to life.

Job Responsibilities

• Perform in a staged reading for an Off-Broadway theater project

• Deliver dialogue with strong voice projection suitable for live theater

• Interpret characters and follow direction from the creative team

• Participate in rehearsals and live reading performance

• Collaborate with fellow actors and production staff during the project

Requirements

• Must have theater acting experience

• Ability to project voice effectively across a theater stage

• Strong performance skills and ability to interpret scripted material

• Professional resume, headshot, and acting reel required for submission

• Ability to perform in a live theater environment

Roles Available

• Gwen – Euro-American Gen Z actress (or Gen Z passing), strong Southern accent preferred

• Njinga – African-American Gen Z actress (or Gen Z passing), Gwen’s roommate

• Trinity – Native American Gen Z actress (or Gen Z passing), Njinga’s best friend

• Elizabeth – Euro-American Gen X actress (or Gen X passing), strong Southern accent preferred, Gwen’s mother

• Miscellaneous Voices – Any age, gender, or ethnicity; strong Old British or European accent preferred

• Stage Directions and Voice – Any age, gender, or ethnicity; strong Old British or European accent preferred
