Open Jobs:
Check Yourself is a fast-paced workplace comedy set inside the lively Marino Grand Hotel in Buffalo, New York. The series follows Leirah, the quick-witted daughter of a traditional Italian hotel owner, as she tries to prove she has what it takes to run the family business.
When her father Gio puts her in charge, Leirah must balance the pressures of leadership, demanding guests, and a staff that constantly tests her patience. Making matters even more chaotic is her unpredictable cousin Juju, whose “creative problem-solving” often turns small issues into full-blown disasters.
Each episode centers around the everyday madness of hotel life—weddings gone wrong, over-the-top guests, Bills game weekends, maintenance mishaps, and family tension—while Leirah learns to lead in her own way.
Blending sharp dialogue, physical comedy, and heartfelt family moments, Check Yourself captures the humor, energy, and personality of Buffalo while exploring the challenges of running a family business.
At its core, the show is about earning respect, embracing responsibility, and learning that sometimes the best way to lead… is to check yourself first.
Gio Marino
Leirah’s father and owner of the hotel. Gio is an old-school Italian man in his early 50s with a tough, commanding presence that gives off a mob-boss vibe, but underneath it all, he’s a good man who deeply cares about his family and the business. He believes in loyalty, respect, and doing things his way.
Julian “JuJu”
Leirah’s cousin, late 20s. Julian works at the hotel and always seems to find himself in the middle of some kind of drama. He’s charming, funny, and unpredictable, with a habit of making situations bigger than they need to be. Even when he means well, he usually brings chaos with him.
Maria
A housekeeper in her mid-30s. Maria is hardworking, sharp, and knows everything happening in the hotel before anyone else does. She keeps things running behind the scenes and isn’t afraid to speak her mind. She often acts as the voice of reason when everyone else is falling apart.
Bob
The maintenance man, mid-40s. Bob is constantly causing chaos, usually while trying to fix something. He means well, but his repairs often create even bigger problems. Unintentionally hilarious, Bob has a talent for turning small issues into full-blown disasters.
