Open Jobs:
Job Description
Black Dog Productions is casting three actors for Black Tar Magic, an ambitious short film production filming in the Greater Boston area. The paid project is open to both union and non-union performers and centers on three emotionally complex characters navigating addiction, grief, secrets, and personal unraveling. The production is seeking performers with strong dramatic instincts and emotional range. The two lead roles require physically and emotionally demanding performances, including simulated drug use and depictions of addiction-related illness, while the supporting role calls for a controlled, darkly comedic presence.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform a scripted dramatic role in Black Tar Magic.
- Work closely with the director to portray emotionally complex material.
- Handle mature themes involving addiction, grief, and drug use where required.
- Perform physical and emotionally demanding scenes appropriate to the assigned character.
- Follow production direction and established safety procedures for choreographed scenes.
Requirements
- Delia – Lead: Female, ages 20–29. A famous model spiraling while trying to overcome addiction and the traumatic loss of her boyfriend. Requires significant emotional and physical range, including portrayals of withdrawal, vomiting, shaking, sobbing, and screaming. Must be comfortable with suggested drug use and depictions of physical illness.
- Kip – Lead: Male, ages 20–29. A worn-down rock star struggling with opioid addiction while hiding a dark secret. Requires strong emotional range and stamina, moving from detached calm to an intense breakdown. Must be comfortable with simulated drug use, including choreographed, non-graphic needle preparation/injection, and a stage-combat or stunt-adjacent scene.
- Felicity – Supporting: Female, ages 20–29. Cool, composed, and businesslike, with a dry sense of humor. She functions partly as Kip’s manager and partly as his dealer. Requires strong dark-comedy timing. No simulated drug use is required beyond handling props such as a baggie and cigarette.
- Must be able to work in the Greater Boston area.
- Open to union and non-union actors.
Compensation
