Renowned for her array of different roles spanning across diverse genres, Oscar winner Anne Hathaway continues to make waves in the world of cinema. Notably remembered for her fabulous portrayal of Fantine in Les Misérables, Hathaway’s scope of talent seems boundless. Along with her acting prowess, the starlet has also proven her flair for singing.

Hathaway’s Love for Theater and Personal Challenges

A pronounced lover of theater, Anne Hathaway has been open about her affections for this art form. Back in 2015, she featured in a one-woman off-Broadway show, Grounded. Unfortunately, this stage appearance coincided with a traumatic period in her life. Anne was dealing with a miscarriage.

Grounded: A Personal and Professional Trauma

In Grounded, Hathaway played the role of a pregnant fighter pilot whose career experiences a sudden halt due to pregnancy. Coincidentally, Anne herself was expecting at the time of the show. The overlapping reality of her character and her personal life resulted in a heart-wrenching ordeal for the actress.

Struggling with the physical and emotional pain of a miscarriage during the six weeks of Grounded’s run, Hathaway had no choice but to keep performing. Despite her personal turmoil, Hathaway, like a true professional, kept reminding herself of the old theater adage – the show must go on.

Living the Loss Night After Night

The constant reminder of her lost child, as her character also depicted a pregnant woman, added another layer of pain to her loss. Speaking to Vanity Fair, The Devil Wears Prada star courageously recounted her ordeal and her daily battle with emotions on stage. Her subsequent second pregnancy’s announcement became something she chose to handle realistically, taking into account the complexity of her previous experience.

In her own words, Hathaway shared, “Given the pain I felt while trying to get pregnant, it would’ve felt disingenuous to post something all the way happy… The first time it didn’t work out for me. I was doing a play and I had to give birth onstage every night It was too much to keep it in.”

Support from her friends and family during this grueling period played a vital role in helping the Oscar-winner overcome the trauma of losing her child.

Hathaway’s Insecurities with Kissing Scenes

Despite her undeniable talent, Anne Hathaway has confessed that she finds enacting kissing scenes challenging. Regardless of her efforts to master these intimate scenes, she admitted that none of her techniques have helped her feel comfortable.

She keenly follows Hollywood icon Angelina Jolie’s work, praising Jolie’s ability to effortlessly perform intimate scenes. Discussing this with GQ (via US Weekly), Hathaway added, “It’s a totally different experience. But you really have to be Angelina Jolie to pull that off and still look good. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I ain’t no Angie.”

Hathaway also appreciates the acting finesse of Jennifer Garner, acknowledging her knack for making intimate scenes appear natural and fun.

Despite personal and professional setbacks, Anne Hathaway stands as an unflinching symbol of strength and perseverance. Her story resonates with every individual who grapples with personal loss while maintaining a professional demeanor, reminding us all that we are far stronger than our struggles.
