Zombicon shooting kills one man and leaves four others injured.
Comic conventions is typically a fun and safe place where fans, cosplayers, actors, and producers can connect and share their favorite experiences from a favorite TV show, comic book series, or movie franchises. However, tragedy fell on this years Zombicon in Fort Meyers, Florida.
Zombicon Shooting 2015 – What Happened
According to ABC-7 news, police are currently searching for a suspect in downtown Fort Meyers after a shooting left one person dead. Sources close to ABC news report that a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound in front of Zombicon died before ever making it to the hospital. Four other victims suffered gunshot wounds were taken to Lee Memorial Hospital to be treated for their non-life threatening injuries.
Zombicon Organizers Respond
The organizers of Zombicon, Pushing DaiZies, Inc. released a statement on Sunday morning saying they are heartbroken by the news.
“We take the safety of our patrons very seriously and take precautions in hiring security and police officers for our annual event,” said Rachel Telfor, security coordinator.
“Our prayers go out to the family members and individuals involved in the incident” said Janet DeMarco, founder. “We are extremely confident in the Fort Myers Police Department and the actions they are taking to apprehend the assailant. Their response was quick and efficient to the incident.”
What is Zombicon?
At this year’s Zombicon was based on the hit video game franchise Fallout (Fallout is an open world role-playing shooter video game developed and published by Interplay Entertainment in 1997).
