“X-Men: Days of Future Past” dominates the box-office with an estimated $261 million first weekend earnings.
FOX’s Marvel Comic’s has reaped in a huge amount of earnings so far. After the three day weekend the feature film made $171 million internationally and $90 million in the United States.
Last week’s No.1 movie, “Godzilla,” came in a distant second with $30.5 million and the the Adam Sandler-Drew Barrymore comedy did horribly with around $14 million after three days.
Despite making $171 million dollars, “Days of Future Past” cost producers nearly $200 million to produce. But, at this rate, the production will soon receive a high return on investment.
This is the second biggest opening for the X-Men franchise. “X-Men: The Last Stand” made #102 million over three days in 2006.
Marketers for the feature film focused on the combined cast of the original “X-Men” trilogy and the 2011 reboot “X-Men: First Class.”
Hugh Jackman and Jennifer Lawrence are the biggest names in the movie but it also features James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Nicholas Hoult, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen and Peter Dinklage.
Critics rated the movie really highly with a 91 percent positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While audiences declared this production a hit giving it an “A” rating on CinemaScore.
